This is a truly fantastic place to stay with very nice friendly & classy hosts You are right in the middle of the Village , can walk out the back to the different Onsens (Spas). Though the Yamazakiya does have two spas inside if you do not wish to do the public onsen thing. Also very close to a number...

Honestly the best place I have ever stayed! The room was a traditional ryokan, so comfortable, homely and warm. You could hear the sound of the rushing river outside but it didn't bother me. I hardly saw anyone else who was staying here and I had the onsen all to myself. The staff were so helpful and friendly and gave...

I spent three nights at this family run ryokan. The room was large and overlooked the narrow, picturesque road. The shared toilet and onsen facilities were very good. The ryokan is family run and Akira and his family really made me feel welcome. They were extremely helpful and were happy to pick me up and take me back to the...

Akira and his family were incredibly warm and welcoming. We felt right at home in our spacious and clean room. The breakfast the following morning was delicious and Akira spoke very good English and was able to answer all our questions. Thanks to the whole family for our experience in this traditional Japanese Ryokan. I would highly recommend this for...

I stayed in Yamazakiya for one night after travelling from Hakuba to visit the snow monkey park. The ryokan provides pick up and drop off service to and from the train station so it's very convenient. Since I came on a Sunday, I was the only guest in the ryokan and I got to have the onsen all to myself!...

Akira was very friendly and most helpful. He picked us up from the station and also drove us to the start of the snow monkey walk and picked us up again and took us with our luggage to the train station. His English was limited but it was no problem and he couldn't do enough for us. He replied promptly...

1. The pick up service is very good. It was Xmas eve and we travelled from Kyoto. It is advisable to use their free pick up and drop off service as it is impossible to walk along the street during the night time (already sunset at 4.30pm during winter). 2.The owner (man) speaks moderate English. We can understand it. 3.The...

The location of the ryokan is at the tip of Shibu Onsen in Yudanaka. The rooms are Japanese styled, spacious and clean with a view towards the river, the meals are fantastic (breakfast & dinner), the staff and family are gracious, accommodating and professional. The owner, Akira-san gave us a ride to the entrance of the Snow Monkey park, and...

I stayed at the ryoukan in winter of 2015. Despite some sites saying that there are no English speakers at the ryoukan, the owner is actually quite well versed in English, and I was able to call to ask for pickup from Yudanaka station. I was a bit late to call to arrange, so I am thankful that he was...

We arrived around 8:30pm which was pre-arrange - because check-in is usually by 6pm - and were greeted by such a lovely family. We were going to walk from the train station, but because it was dark, we caught a taxi, and I'm glad we did, because I think it would have been at least a 30 min walk with...
