I stayed here for 1 night combining ski-ing and onsen. This place lives up to the other reviews. I hurt my ankle skiing and they came and fetched me from the bus stop. The food was delicious (plus provided an English menu so I knew what I was eating!). The owner dropped by our room to say hello - she... More

I would highly recommend! The staff and owner were warm and always willing to help. My room was large with a great view. Dinner onsite was delicious and a fabulous experience. The purpose of my visit was to see the Snow Monkeys not realizing my experience at Aburaya was equally memorable.

Let me just start by saying that this place will remain as my most memorable part of my japan trip. This traditional ryokan is just fantastic! It all began when we were unable to get a taxi to the hotel from yudanaka station and so the train stations information centre called the hotel and we were picked up in the... More

Fantastic place to stay. Little bit pricey but well worth it. We stayed in a 4 person tatami room with a rotenburo ( outdoor open air bath ) as some of the family members weren't into communal nudity. Nothing beats an open air bath with the snow falling. 4 futons but managed fine with our family of 2 adults and... More

The most memorable part of our stay was how helpful the staff were. I was asking her about the schedule shuttle bus to the snow monkey park, and found out it is usually 930 earliest. There's also another 30 minutes required to hike up the park, and the same to return down, and another 10 minutes to get back by... More

We stayed for one night and the room and staff were great! They informed how the onsen worked and answered all our questions. The room was very nice and perfect for our family of 4 with a 5 and 8 year old. They had fun dressing up and using the onsen. The best was the outside one that was a... More

After the freezing day at Snow monkey park , We're impressed that the hotel sent the shuttle to pick us up at Yudanaka bus/train Station. We booked Japanese style with out door Private onsen type which was very cozy and comfortable. The mountain view from the balcony was stunning. The staff could also recommend you the nice sushi and other... More

We wanted to see the snow monkeys and decided to stay at a ryokan for the true Japanese experience. I liked the reviews for Aburaya Tosen, so I booked one night. Without telling anyone what time I would arrive, there was a shuttle at the train station for guests at their hotel. The check in process was wonderful, as they... More

We arrived way too early for check in, and the lady (think she's the owner as well) simply offered to drive us to the monkey park for some sightseeing of our own. This was also outside of the regular shuttle schedule to the park! The tatami room that we stayed in was spacious and comfy, with our own private outdoor... More

Stayed here in February 2015, as we were in search of a ryokan/onsen experience in the height of the snowy season. We were not to be disappointed! Arrived Yudanaka station on the Snow Monkey Express (from Nagano stn, which you can reach via Shinkansen), and had a little difficulty finding a taxi right away. No matter, as we spotted the...
