I stayed as part of a larger party walking the Hadrian's Wall Way at this excellent Northumberland hotel . The food is a real winner - a surprise to see such interesting and tasty food in such a quiet location . Also , the focus of the hotel on environmental issues was a surprise and welcome . As a base...

The food at the hotel was good and we were lucky enough to get a room in one of the lodges just outside the main building - they're extremely spacious and light, with a jacuzzi bath and walk-in shower (we'd definitely recommend trying to get one). Unfortunately, the overall experience of our stay was massively let down by the awful...

I've been looking to try Battlesteads for a couple of years and finally we visited last week. A two night stay, bed and breakfast with tasting menu on first night. In short it more than lived up to our expectations. The room was very comfortable, clean and well provided. Fruit selection of teas coffee. Food was beautifully prepared fresh and...

Just returned from a lovely 3 nights break. Great location, lovely food (particularly the 8 course tasting menu), helpful staff and everything well presented. Having the Observatory adds an enjoyable new dimension and we really enjoyed looking for shooting stars. Highly recommend. Some nice walks near the hotel and also well placed for exploring the area. It's also dog friendly.

We paid £169 for a 2 night stay in a standard room with an 8 course taster menu on the first night and a full breakfast on each morning. The taster menu was delicious and extremely well presented with some imaginitive ways to present the food. The only thing that let the meal down was the service. It took 50...

We normally stay at the big national hotels but found this one and were tempted by the 8 course taster menu, the fact that the hotel is in a lovely area and the great reviews. On the whole we were not disappointed, the taster meal was fabulous as were the breakfasts. If I have one small comment to make it...

I can only reflect what has been said by other reviewers. We were celebrating a big Birthday and no trouble was spared to make our evening meals delicious. The amuse bouche were outstanding! The room was very well appointed, though quite small due to the architecture of the whole building. No problem for us as the bathroom was large and...

The hotel is set in the lovely quiet little village of Wark and looks lovely upon approach and there is ample parking to the rear of the hotel. Upon entry to the hotel the receptionist appeared very busy and a bit flustered but got us to our room for the night which was incredibly spacious. We had booked in for...

A group of nine of us from Northern Ireland, including our 95 year old Mum stayed here for the weekend using Battlesteads as our base for attending a wedding in nearby Otterburn. The rooms are spotless, really well equipped and with a well stocked tea/coffee tray including a variety of cookies and lots of fresh fruit. We enjoyed a fabulous...

We stayed in one of the luxury lodges and were very happy with our accommodation. The lodge was comfortable, well furnished and equipped, with plenty of storage space, and had the most fantastic underfloor heating. In fact it was too warm and we had to turn it off and open the door! But I can imagine how lovely it is...
