If you want to travel 100 years back in time: Stay in this hotel. At least that's how I assume people have lived 100 years back - heating is only occasionally working, in some rooms you have to pull the string from the ceiling to flush the toilet and shower under a "wooden" cupola. Depending on the room you get, it feels you have to walk 1km stairs up and down to get there. On the pro side: the gym is exceptionally big (but I think you have to share it from time to time with some lads from town) and the staff is really friendly. The food in the restaurant is appropriate given the location of the hotel.

Booked two family rooms at very reasonable prices inclusive of breakfast. On arrival was very impressed with the beautiful location, long drive through the grounds towards the magnificent building! It was pleasant walking around to read up on the history, etc. Unfortunately, whilst talking to the Receptionist, a man approached and was very rude and loud, asking us that we cannot be inside without masks. A simple 'I am the General Manager and need to advise you of the need to wear masks indoors' would have been perfectly acceptable. We felt very embarrassed in front of other guests. There was no need at all. I asked the Receptionist for details of the man, and it was Mr Sharma. At breakfast the next day, Aurora was very rude and loud, another embarrassing incident; she didn't say anything to the family of 4 in the dining area, but to our group, was talking very loudly, saying 'no more than 6 people are allowed to be in this area at any given time'; again, she didn't speak to us politely, but instead embarrassed us! Not impressed. We told her that we were not told this at any time, Reception or the waitress who showed us to our table! Customer service needs to be addressed. We are fully aware of the current awful situation, however, that is no excuse for unprofessional behaviour towards your customers. Otherwise, overall our visit was fine. Particular shoutout to Tabitha in the dining room. She was very helpful and polite. She deserves recognition!

Spent a very pleasant night at Breadsall Priory with golf package included. Accommodation was good and Covid restrictions made it a bit trickier than usual. Slots had to be booked in advance at the restaurants but the food was good so made up for it. Golf was nice but some niggles; first off, our slot on the Priory Course appeared to have been double-booked so it took a bit of sorting out on the tee. The course is lovely and a pleasure to play.....when you know when you are going. Signage is poor and often ways away from the tee box so you can't see the shape of the hole when standing on the tee. We weren't the only ones to play from the 5th fairway to the 6th green by mistake, having missed a blind dogleg. Some idea of where the next tee box is located might also be a good idea please! Otherwise, a lovely stay.

Booked a last minute couple of days away with husband and two teenage daughters. On arrival and driving through the grounds approaching the hotel we were delighted with the look of the hotel. I love older hotels with lots of character. We had booked two rooms and on arriving to our room, and it’s gutting to say but I was totally disappointed with the style of the rooms, they lacked character compared to the grandeur of our arrival. Our room was freezing and the heating didn’t work so we called housekeeping for them to arrive and pull out a portable radiator from the wardrobe! We had disposable cups, we were also told due to COVID there would be no housekeeping. I understand that there are restrictions but we’ve stayed at other places that do still provide this service. Anyhow moving on, the bathroom taps were too small for the sink so struggled to get my hands under the running water, our spare toilet roll was soaked through, we found a hair in the bath and on the flannel and one of our hand towels had a stain.’ The hairdryer attachment didn’t fit the hairdryer and it kept cutting out due to overheating. We visited the Cast Iron restaurant the first night and I was totally underwhelmed by the menu especially as this is a 4 star hotel. The restaurant was laid out like a canteen and again lacked character despite the architecture. Two of our drinks arrived flat and when we went to pay our bill using our card the waitress took our card away with the machine which was the icing on the cake....we have previously had our card cloned so needless to say I was not happy she did this especially as she did not explain why she did this until she returned. Overall I was totally disappointed with our stay as the hotel has a lot of potential but when the hospitality industry is struggling it doesn’t help when you experience such a disappointing stay and needless to say we won’t be returning.

This is a stunning building in a beautiful location with easy access to Derby and the Derbyshire Dales. Our room was in the new extension. A bit of a rabbit warren and looking like a chain hotel with bland corridors. Our room though was quite spacious with plenty of tea and coffee making facilities, plus nice bathroom toiletries. Enough storage too. Unfortunately our room had not been thoroughly cleaned. There were sweet wrappers on seats and food debris on the floor. The surfaces had a layer of dust on too. Not good when cleanliness should be a priority during a pandemic. We also observed a pair of underpants outside our bedroom window. The public areas in the main house are lovely, along with the gardens overlooking the golf course. Our breakfast was table service only and we were served a tray of cold items before a cooked breakfast. The tray contained cornflakes, milk, yoghurt, fruit. The cooked breakfast was served ‘fate a complete’, so we did not get asked what type of eggs we wanted or if any items should be removed (which would normally happen at a restaurant). Saying that it was very good value for the £5 we paid. All the staff we encountered were very friendly and helpful. This could be a great place to come back to if cleanliness is improved and the pool opened (closed due to Covid-19).
