Stayed for the 3rd time since 2015 at Kawayu Daiichi Hotel. The hotels is somewhat a traditional Ryokan, albeit not family run.. Price includes Diner and Breakfast buffet. Food was ok, the dining room extremely loud during diner due to a large group of Chinese guests. Buffet breakfast has a good variety of Japanese and Western options Not happy at all that they charge for a bucket of Ice - this is a first for me in Japan and I have spend close to 100 room nights over the past 5 years in Japan. The Hotel has turned into a group hotel and will choose to stay somewhere else if returning to Lake Kussharo

Lunch at the Daiichi Hotel Suikazura consisted of raw squid sashimi with wasabi and shredded daikon (radish); a very small bowl of miso with mystery vegetables; a bowl of white rice; grilled mackerel with all the bones; and a brazier with a shrimp, a very small piece of salmon, some undetermined piece of seafood, onions, and a couple of asparagus. No drinks except water were included with the lunch. Beer was $8.00 a glass, and cola was $4.50 for a very small glass. I was not impressed.

Clean hotel in between Lake Mashu and Onsen. Good place to eat for a romantic dinner or group gathering. Place is presentable and very clean with plenty of space. .Service is fast and unintrusive. If management does not change value and service it is an outstanding place to eat.. Price and value seems reasonable, and they do not seem to skimp on the quality of the product they serve. Octopus carpaccio is well prepared and presented. Squid pickled in chili, melt and soy sauce is very good. Assorted sashimi was well prepared. Hokkaido hot pot was tasty. Cold soba with sansai was well done and so was the crab cake. Beef in the steak porcelain hot pan was of good quality meat- equal to prime beef. Accompanying asparagus and mushroom was a nice compliment to the tender meat. Rice was the right sticky Japanese type and the Miso soup was quite tasty. Overall if the management continue the quality and does not change service and value this is a great restaurant. Probably the best meal I had in Japan.

Kawayu onsen is very small town but quiet, convenience and comfortable. The Eco bus is welly setup that it can drive you to the lakes around you. The 摩周湖 and the 屈斜路湖 are a must to go and they can be easily accessed by theEco bus! The staffs can speak the good English and arrange everything you bed for you. The onsen place and the room is a bit aged but you can feel the traditional of the hotel. There was 1 disappointment was the star observe tour had cancelled due to the weather condition. However, It allowed me to have more time to see the lighting on the quiet streets, shops and in the park with the he kawayu dust diamond party! I love the stay.
