Found the location down a small road, there was signs and pot holes for good measure. No receptiion area we just had to go to the bar at the pool. Shown to our room which was at the back of the restaurant this is where they want you to sit. ow dear . The rooms were decorated with blue and purple coloured walls. Our bed had a old brown blanket on with another worse blanket underneath and a sheet. No eating in the room was allowed.! The small pool was ok but men are not allowed to wear small beach shorts of any sort. So my partner was unable to enter. We ate in the restaurant one evening. We asked for white wine and they had none left.? There was other better allocated rooms with nice views and it was not full so I do not understand why we had such a bad room. The internet was only available in the bar area, and was very slow.

Went there because everything was full (Bourail fair). Rooms are the same as it was when I was a teen... 25 years ago. Had nice huge insects in the room (mosquitoes, cockroaches, etc.). Noisy neighbors, smoking people around (strong smell inside). Not safe with young kids as the is a river very close to the rooms. Very outdated, very basic but honest: you get what you paid for. The restaurant was basic, using a bit too much of frozen food even if they try to use local ingredients. We asked for a prawn sandwich, got charged $35 (price of a whole meal)... ouch... Staff became more friendly when I told them I used to be a local... So, if u are on a budget, this might be an option to enjoy the famous beaches nearby.

We stayed one night at "aux delices de la cigogne" 5km north of Bourail. It was terrible with aggressive barking dogs on arrival, cigarette smell in the rooms and unfriendly staff. For the second night we chose El Kantara. It was the same price as the first place but with friendly staff, good location and air con. Bring mosquito repellant. New Caledonia is expensive and you can only judge it by the competition. I would have no issues staying here again.

It's very unpopular in this hotel, we stayed because all the other was full otherwise I would have never slept there. It is unacceptable to receive such guests like that. Do not go there many other better thing next to.

Despite its attractions, New Caledonia is just not set up for tourists, at least in the way many modern travellers expect. I stayed here in Oct 11 for three nights with my family and we loved the homely atmosphere and quiet pace of the place. The rooms are basic, but clean, and the restaurant served simple New Caledonian French food. It was the first overseas hotel my parents had ever visited, and they were charmed by the simplicity of it all. The pool was closed during our visit, and it didn't appear that anyone was doing anything about it during our stay. We put it down to "island time".
