Last September saw us return to Milos and Nefeli Sunset Studios for our 4th consecutive year. It was reassuring to see Covid measures being rigorously enforced all the way from Heathrow to Milos, well done Aegean/Olympic, similarly wherever we went on the island everybody, locals and visitors alike, were adhering to the rules, it is fair to say that we felt much safer there than we did in the UK. Nefeli remains a beacon of light in such times and although they weren’t able to offer breakfast everything else was up to their customary exemplary standard, Covid can’t take away the views, the sunset or spoil your enjoyment of swimming from the little beach at the front of the hotel. Last year was obviously a difficult year and the lack of visitors meant that not everything on the island was operating as usual but those businesses that were open were welcoming and trying to do their best. Whilst the weather at the time of our visit was not the best, numerous windy days and a night of thunder, lightning and torrential rain, it didn’t dampen our spirits and we still found new places to visit on the island.

We spent 2 enjoyable days ta the Nefeli. The owners were constantly at hand to welcome us and to answer any questions. We decided for the largest suite available which turned out to be designed for handicapped persons - ground floor with ramp and a bathroom with wide door, easy-access shower etc. The decor is plain but the room(s) were pleasant and comfortable. Mattresses (Coco-Mat) are very firm with good quality bedding. A well equipped kitchenette with no less than 3 different ways of making coffee (including Nespresso)! Of course, the main selling point of the hotel is its view of the ocean sunsets which are truly spectacular. The hotel is out of the commercial centre of Pollonia so it is very quiet at night. The centre with its numerous restaurants and bars, is just 8 minutes walk away. The hotel has its own cars for rental. They are new, in good condition and competitively priced. If you are thinking of exploring the "wild" western part of the island, rent a 4-wheel drive since the dirt roads are in poor condition in places. No breakfast available because of COVID restrictions but there are some nice places in town.

We stayed in the junior suite for five nights at the beginning of September. The suite is spacious with a separate living room and well-equipped kitchen. There are two outdoor seating areas; a sizeable terrace at the back of the property which looks out over the car park and neighbouring properties and a small balcony overlooking the front of the property with a lovely sea view. You can witness superb sunrises and sunsets from the balcony at the front. The decor of the suite was quite dated but it was very clean. The bed was perhaps a little on the firm side for my back’s liking but it wasn’t uncomfortable. The hosts were great - wonderfully friendly but not at all intrusive. They booked taxis to and from the port in Adamas for us and were on hand if we need anything else. Pollonia is a lovely little harbour town. Its beaches aren’t the best on the island but fine if you just want a quick dip in the sea. There is a decent selection of places to eat in the town, all of which are no more than a 10 minute walk from Nefeli. There are a few small shops in Pollonia where you can buy essentials but if you want a bigger supermarket you will need to drive to it. There is a bus service in operation on the island but even during high season it is limited and to get to most of the main tourist places you will need to change buses at either Adamas or Plaka. We used the bus on our first full day in Milos and then hired a buggy to give us more freedom. The property has a sizeable car park and we were always able to get a space. Ferries to the neighbouring island of Kimolos (which is very nice for a day trip) depart from Pollonia. If possible, I would suggest taking your own transport over on the ferry to Kimolos as the bus service there is even more limited. We walked 3 miles one-way in the scorching heat to Prassa beach which I wouldn’t necessarily recommend as there were a fair few hills! We loved Milos and I am sure we will return. If we stay in Pollonia again we will definitely consider staying at Nefeli.

We had the most amazing time at Nefeli Sunset Studios. We were kindly upgraded to a lovely and entirely refurbished Studio with sea view. Everything was extremely well taken care of, the beds was super comfortable, the kitchen is well equipped (Nespresso Machine!), WiFi works perfectly and it's very clean. Also this really is the perfect spot to watch your daily sunset. If you fancy a relaxing trip, I cannot recommend this place enough. You can jump into the water directly from the terrace. Such a beautiful place indeed.

Stayed for 7 nights in September and thoroughly enjoyed our time at Nefeli. The rooms are so well equipped, clean, well maintained and have everything you might need during your stay. It's lovely watching the sunset from your balcony and being able to walk into town to grab dinner afterwards. Big thank you to all the staff! We will be back :) Also, car hire directly through the hotel was great, the cars are very new and it was good value. Only thing I wish is that breakfast was possible on-site; we had some friends staying at Milos Breeze and they had breakfast available there. Not a big issue but I'm sure a solution could be explored.
