We had a very nice stay at the Hotel Castel Pietra in Primiero this past Oct. 25-27, our third stop in a loop through the Dolomites and a quality last stop before heading south to Venice. Located in what appears to be a largely residential neighborhood, this is a very subdued and classy hotel, with an attentive and polished staff (I've never seen such good posture!) manning the concierge desk, the morning breakfast area, the bar and the restaurant. Our room was modest in size but comfortable, with a separate pull-out sofa/bed that was useful as a lounge/staging area. We had a nice balcony with a view of the nearby town environs and mountains surrounding the valley. Only drawback to the whole experience was other guests smoking on their balconies, including the adjacent one right next door, and one right down below, Their cigarette smoke regularly wafted into our room. The hotel insists you cannot smoke in the rooms, but smoking on the balconies pretty much negates that whole idea. I'd suggest the hotel really cracks down on that and insists its customers go outside, away from the hotel balconies, to smoke. That was really the only drawback. Everything else in this beautiful hotel is pure quality and we very much recommend it. It is within easy walking distance of the charming downtown, and a supermarket (a COOP) is about a 5 minutes walk away. And the beautiful Val Canali nature park is a 5 minute drive up the road, super easy, and a bountiful place to spend the day hiking and enjoying the gorgeous scenery.

Good stay in this nice hotel. Great location a short stroll from the the lovely town center. Clean and comfortable. The hotel caters to families and there seems to be an array of ammenities for children (we did not have children with us). We had half board. The dining room is busy with everyone eating at about the same time. The food overall was good, with one night just ok. Big bathroom, nice view, helpful staff.

We have spent two nights in this hotel and we found ourselves comfortable and in the room we were given. The view of the mountains and the forest was amazing. We travelled with the motorbike and we were at ease with the safe parking in their garage. The staff is very friendly and the breakfast is for sure one to remember. I highly recommended to everyone.

This hotel is just outside the centre of the nice little town of Fiera di Primiero, in a strategic location whether you are interested in spectacular but very touristy areas around the Pale di San Martino and the Passo Rolle facilities, or the more intimate adjacent Valle del Vanoi. The venue is very pleasant, with an impressive lobby and restaurant area, and it is family run. We had a superior room which, as promised was definitely large. Although the hotel is 3*, with the due refurbishing and equipment (a larger TV set, a fridge/minibar, complimentary items) this room, also endowed with a nice little balcony, could easily be a 4*. The only problem is that right now it is a little dated and tired: ante-deluvian shutter system, same for the bathroom vent, old carpet, mattress that has seen better days, and so on. I would say that the main asset of Castel Pietra is the staff, mostly young: everybody is smiling and polite. Their restaurant is of excellent quality (see separate review), but to enjoy its most wonderful dishes you have to go a la carte: obviously if you choose the far more economical half-board option, reason dictates that you have to expect a less exceptional (but still good) experience. Prices out of high season are very reasonable, whereas I think that during high season they are a bit "less reasonable" :-)

Fiera di Primiero is a small town at the foot of the majestic mountains of Pale San Martino, part of the Dolomites. The hotel is a rather big building (not the biggest) near the outskirts of the townlet, in good condition, run as a family business. The rooms are reasonable, clean and not small, the service is courteous and fine, the attached restaurant is also OK. The owners' claim that the restaurant is of outstanding level - but being well experienced with Slow Food restaurants/trattorie, I'd say it is interesting and good rather than outstanding. The half-board is good value - but a disappointment was for us that after spending a week there, on the last night, a promised (otherwise not huge) discount at the a la carte restaurant was not granted, because we "did not book half-board before arriving". This is small-mindneness and I suggest will not save the venture in case of financial problems. Given that all this only came out at the time of departure, we departed with a little sour feeling, and I regret this end of an otherwise fine stay.

First of all the 5 out of 5 for this review is wrong; it should read SIX out of 5. This hotel goes ABOVE all expectations and delights all guests with originality, attention to detail, and a high standard in ALL things. My room (211) was 3-times the size it needed to be, with a nice sofa and sitting area, desk, lovely balcony, and excellent shower room with toilet and bidet. All kept tidy and clean by good housekeepers. You won't find a fridge or tea-making equipment, but I don't mark it down for those things because many hotels don't have these. I always take my own kettle secretly anyway. The heating (over Christmas) was excellent, WiFi worked very well indeed for numerous devices in every corner of the hotel. The food was truly exquisite! The simplest meal was breakfast, a cold buffet perhaps but ample choice of everything, and it was constantly replenished; Eggs could be cooked to your order. Evening meals were remarkable, full of innovation and experimentation; don't restrict yourself to 'Meat and 2 veg' because the chef here doesn't. Open your mind and then open your mouth to enjoy delights which even if made with familiar ingredients will be served up in unexpected ways. This hotel knows how to do food and their staff know how to cook. But above all this, and probably the biggest reason why I can give this hotel SIX stars is the staff. A very young staff, that itself is remarkable, but this collection of lads and lasses were vivacious, bright, happy, helpful, funny, and worked very hard indeed whether bringing scrambled eggs at breakfast, changing a dish at a meal, or creating cocktails or hot chocolates at the bar. This is both a tribute to the management of this hotel, but also to the spirit of these young characters. Our Christmas at Hotel Castel Pietra was an absolute joy because of the way it was run and because of all the boys and girls that did all the running. Truly EXCELLENT

This was one of the hotels during our bicycle trip in the Dolomites. Very nice place to stay, excellent hotel, nice rooms, nice garden, friendly people. Even our bikes were staying in a nice locked room in the garage. Diner and breakfast were excellent! I hope we can come back in the future with KDS Bike Holidays!

My wife and I were on a 7 day mountain bike tour of the Dolomites and were delighted to spend a night at Castel Pietra. The staff was amazing and super accommodating for cyclists. The hotel is gorgeous and in a great location that is a quick walk into the historic center. They have separate kids play areas that make the property extremely kid/family friendly as well. The food at the restaurant was truly the best food we had in Italy. This was the best place we stayed on our entire trip and highly recommend staying here!
