Nice castle-hotel in quite, natural surroundings. Good beds, good linings. The breakfast is mediocre, but you should find some things, you like. The rooms lack the finishing touch: the wiring for lamps look like a mess that gathers dust (why not bother to attach it to the wall along the floor?), no amenities, the soap dispensers contain heavily scented soaps,...

I stayed one night before a meeting in Silkeborg, expected a quiet evening to prepare for the meeting. A wonderful place, a bit worn, but clean. Very friendly staff. Not a desk in the room, and the wifi was nothing to brag about. No 3G/4G mobile coverage either, so it didn't work for me. Breakfast was ok.

Beautiful hotel and relaxing atmosphere A hotel I will recommend not only for a romantic weekend, also nice for us that brought our children. The building is old, the whole hotel is old of course, but that's a part of the atmosphere. However the wi-fi was very fast. If the weather is nice, you might bring you breakfast outside, it's...

I arrived the hotel late in the evening, and the restaurant kept open for serving only me. Excellent food and service. Very charming dining room. The room was a bit old, an not up to date. But that is to expect in an old Manor. Very good and comfy beds. I departed after breakfast next morning, but I'm hopin to...

We spent 2 nights in this Manor in the countryside, a Saturday night and a Sunday night with different experiences each day. As an overall comment about the food is that: Food here is far from a gourmet serving. If there is an event at the same time you are guest then the money you payed is not worth it,...

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Sophiendal Manor is located in the highland between Ejer Bavnehoj and Himmelbjerget. Vast forests, lakes and rivers, make Sophiendal's location spectacular. The deers can be heard belling in the valleys and the eagles screaming. The abbey church is situated behind the manor. The church was built in 1058 and is the oldest in the country. After the Reformation, the monastery was placed under Skanderborg castle until 1767, when the king sold Venggaard to the prefect von Woyda. He built the manor and called it Sophiendal after his wife Sophie. The manor has 34 beautifully decorated rooms, all with canopy beds. The old farm buildings have been converted into conference rooms with modern facilities. The manor provides the perfect setting for special occasions. Sophiendal Manor is the ideal venue for christenings, weddings, birthday parties, receptions, seminars, workshops and board meetings, with capacity for up to 110 guests. ... more   less
