We went in July with 2 teenagers. The whole domain only has 3 large and comfy bungalows and we were lucky the third was not occupied for mgost of the time. So the whole domain was ours, private swimming pool, private garden.. excellent ! The domain is owned by Rohan. He is Sri Lankan and knows all the good places, good drivers both tuktuk and long distance, culture etc... He also organizes round trips but the children adored the swimming pool so we did excursions with fixed staying location. And there is enough to see in the neighbourhood ! The domain is maintained by a family. The Father Ravi takes care of the beautiful garden. There are mango trees, coconut trees, amazing flowers, squirrels, monkeys, peacocks and a huge variety of birds. It s almost a national park on itself :-) The mother helps wherever she can, for the food, the room cleaning, the washing & ironing. The daughter Nirange is the master cook of the house. What a delicious meals and drinks (juices, milkshake, coctail) she created ! Her brother Kumara brought them to the table, to the swimming pool lounges or to your bungalow terrace, wherever you want. The family is super kind, smiling, eager to help and makes you feel in heaven! It really felt by renting 2 bungalows that we rented a paradise with private buttler service and private swimming pool for an unseen price in this category ! We always followed Rohan's advice for the excursions. E.g. he proposed to do a tuktuk tour around the lakes as alternative for the Bundala national park as we are not such a big fan of birds. We had a great time, tuktuk'ing around, whatching birds but also buffalos, people in the water (on boat or not) trying to catch some fish (even tried it myself ! :-) ) We visited the beach, Ella, tea plantation & factory, waterfalls, the 15 days during festival, Hindu & Buddha temples and of course the National Parks Uda Walawe (with elephants) and Yala with leopards and lots of other animals. Rohan took care of trusted drivers and cars, e.g. for the national parks we were driven by the brother of Kumara & Nirange: Dilip. WIth regards to infrastructure : very clean, daily cleaned with water, huge bathroom, long bed, 30 square meter bungalow with additionally a terrace under the roof so even if it rains, you can spend awesome time outside. Reasonable wifi and no television (for us no miss, for others maybe an issue). Looking for a paradise on earth for a long stay or while you are visiting the lakes, the national parks and beach and temples and .... ShangriLanka village is the address ! A private butler you get, a private swimming pool you get for sure if you book 3 bungalows or pay a little extra and it's certainly worth it. Want to plan a tour, I can tell you Rohan is the best option: you can trust him, honest pricing, trusted drivers. If you didn't book your tour via Rohan, be sure to pass by ShangriLanka village and his other property ShangriLanka villa (in Bentota) which is closer to the airport and ideal upon arrival or before flying back !…
The Villa is similar to the other in Bentota. Very quiet and tranquil. Ideal base for safari. There are a number of restaurants nearby however the Villa does offer meals with a decent menu range. Only minor drawback was the level of housekeeping was not as good as Bentota Villa however we had a good relaxing stay
A magical place to stay while visiting safari parks The bungalows are spacious and opulent the grounds are picture perfect with the beautiful flowers and the pool is superb The staff are very obliging and friendly and nothing is too much trouble They will happily organise your trips to safari parks etc This is our third visit and it never disappoints so hopefully not our last
Three bungalows shaded by trees, with a tranquil pool to calm your weary limbs. This little bit of heaven, tucked off the main road, offered a tranquil stay en route from Arugam Bay to Bentota. A simple cote d'hote was offered in the open air dining area and beautifully cooked by Kumar and his staff. A good spot to visit Yala and Kataragama from. Will worth the stay.
This place is absolutely magical / an oasis of peace and tranquility for nature lovers with the most beautiful garden resplendent with colourful blooms and stunning birds - we were lucky enough to spot a paradise flycatcher during our stay. Gorgeous pool, beautifully clean rooms and two adorable doggies. The menu is clearly designed to cater to British palates but we ordered rice and curry which wasn’t on the menu and was completely delicious. This is our second time here and we will be back. Our trip to Yala and bundala was delivered by the manager’s brother who makes an excellent spotter and guides
We stayed here for a couple of nights so we could visit Yala Park. It was great, lovely villa, clean and beautifully furnished. The staff were very friendly and helpful, the pool is lovely. We would definitely return!
Shangri-Lanka Village is a tiny but lovely place with only three large bungalow-rooms. There is a lodge building for breakfast and dinner. The garden is large and has a nice size pool. We stayed for one night. This is a great place for relaxing, very quiet and private. At dinner it was just the two of us - felt like a special date. The next morning we had an early Safari and came back to the hotel for a late breakfast. I would definitely recommend this place and would come back to stay here.
True to its name, this place is remote enough for the feel of nature but close enough to the nearby town to get anything. There are many restaurants in the walking distance. The place is serene, with just 3 separate units set in a sprawling garden with a diverse flora. The pool is decent size but great for some after dark swimming (especially if the sky is clear and full of stars). The care taker Kumara and his family are wonderful folks! When we visited, there weren’t enough guests to run the restaurant but they ensured we had some great food (at reasonable prices). All in, it’s a great place to wind down for a few days and serves as base for exploring the nearby wildlife reserves.
If only 3 huge bungalows within a big, splendid blooming garden, an open (roof and open on three sides) restaurant with authentic local food, a nice swimming pool right in the middle of it all, breakfast on your own terrace (looking at peacocks in the garden) and a very good service is what you consider luxury, you should go there. Great place to be!
What a beautiful place to stay! Everything about Shangri Lanka Village is beyond 5*. The accommodation itself, the staff and all of the organisation for our various excursions was perfect. Nothing was too much trouble for the staff. Absolutely wonderful holiday
