Tissa offers excellent opportunities for wildlife spotting and the staff at Richards Cabanas helped us to enjoy that to the full. On our first day we took advantage of their free bikes and local map to spend a wonderful morning bird watching on the tranquil shores of Yoda Wewa. The following day Amila arranged a morning safari to Yala NP (starting from the hotel at 4:30 am). Although Maury was not available they organised a very experienced guide for us who really knew the wildlife, especially the birds, and capped a superb safari spotting an enormous range of animals, by being the first to find the only leopard seen in the park that morning. Highlights of the hotel are the lovely pool, the delicious food both for breakfast and dinner, and the beautiful garden settings. Owing to its small size it really does provide a lovely peaceful haven in a busy town.…
We had two rooms in the new new addition to this beautiful boutique hotel. Absolute bliss, We loved being surrounded by a gorgeous fruit orchard with hammock, sparkling clean pool, birds to watch, and adjacent to a parrot-green rice paddy. The new open-sided Restaurant serves delicious Lanka and Western food and is reasonably priced. The rooms are spacious with large comfy beds and dreamy soft pillows. Decor blends minimalism and comfort. There are papasan chairs for lounging and reading on the verandas. Best of all: the staff. Amila and his Dad are warm friendly people who do everything to make one’s stay easy and enjoyable. This is a family with vast experience in Yala guiding and taking tourists to different parts of the island. They arranged three trips for us, all reasonably priced, with careful driving and fantastic surprises along the way. Will not spoil by telling everything. Ask Amila or his Dad if you are interested in exploring the Thissa region. Maury is also a relative and I highly recommend asking for him to drive you through Yala. He is attuned to the ways of wild animals and has a sharp eye for spotting tracks of leopards and for sighting all creatures from the tiniest bird to the most humongous elephant. We saw two leopards and a bear in one day: a rare occurrence and a treasured memory caught on camera. This place feels like home and you can bet we’ll be going back to visit again next year. Thank you for the best stay in Sri Lanka…
Tissa is a wonderful place, with national parks like Yala and Bundala nearby. What better place to stay here than Richard's Cabanas: a couple of lovely cabanas surrounded by trees, animals and friendly people. The cabanas are well equipped, with good beds, water cooker, fridge, and a very nice seating area outside. The pool is new and surrounded by fruit trees. You can have a nice lunch or dinner here as well. Bikes are available, and the area around the cabanas is very nice to exlore (rice fields, an enormous stupa and trees with hundreds of flying dogs that fly out when the sun sets). The owner is fantastic: he is very friendly, is knowledgeable about Sri Lanka and Tissa and will help with any question. While we were there an accident happened to a neighbor and he supported her in every way. We were impressed!…
The pool and cabanas in this boutique hotel are simply amazing. The staff are so helpful and friendly. They cannot do enough for you. The place is exceptionally clean and the rooms are cool from the air conditioning. The pool is beautiful and always a relaxing place to spend the early evening cooling down after a safari that is organised by the boutique hotel staff. The owners have 20 years experience as a safari guide, so plenty of knowledge about the place and the animals and everything it has to offer. Everything here is pristine and well designed. You can see that a lot of thought has gone into the designing of it. We cannot wait to return again later this year !
The place is absolutely beautiful and very peaceful. Rooms are spotless and tastefully decorated with amazing bathrooms with hot and powerful showers and beautiful terraces overlooking a pool to relax and enjoy a cold beer or premium glass of wine. The hotel is run by a young and entrepreneurial local who will go above and beyond to make your stay perfect. On site restaurant offering both traditional Sri Lankan and western fusion dishes. All lovingly and freshly prepared. The best food on our entire trip. They also run a safari business which has been in the family for many years and we went on a full day trip with them with the amazing guide Muri. His knowledge of the park was incredible and he also treated the animals with the care and respect necessary (something we saw many other tour companies not adhering to sadly). Look no further for your stay in Thissa and safari tour. You will be sad to leave this oasis of beauty but will go home with amazing memories thanks to the guys here.…
