The hotel is in the lake area mount far from everything, that is you need a car to go to a restaurant unless you want to be killed walking on the road. It is in a garden with a pond with frogs and there are a few multi-room bungalows around a beautiful swimming pool (ideal for children and not bad for a swim). The room was nice and comfortable (apart from a very high and hard pillow) and the bathroom big enough with a good shower and a small shower for the toilet. No towel for the swimming pool and no bath foam/Ere are complimentary water, tea and coffee. Good wifi everywhere. Breakfast is served at the table: fruit, juice, eggs and some typical local things, such as roti and crepe with coconut.
The first night was compelled to have dinner and I didn’t repeat it the second. They have a huge menu spanning from Italy to China ( always a bad omen); I chose the only local dish, rice noodles with curries, it came cold and two of the four curries were so salted that I couldn’t eat them.

We stayed here for two nights with the plan of visiting Bundala Bird reserve which was sadly closed due to Corona Virus restrictions. Instead we did a tour of the hotel grounds with our guide and saw over 40 species of birds!
It was wonderful to have time by the pool in such a beautiful setting. We loved our poolside ensuite room and the first floor dining room with great views. The food was good and the staff were attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it.

Tried this hotel as our favorite place of stay at Kataragama (Refresh Cabanas) full. Hibiscus turned out to be an excellent spot to relax with plenty of bird watching and a very big garden to walk around. There are 2 natural ponds where most of the birds come in the morning and in the evening. If you are lucky you may also see two crocodiles coming to these natural ponds, but we didn't see them. Some of the rooms are opening into the paddy fields which is owned by the Hotel owner. This is a family run business and a very relaxing place to spend your time. The pool was under maintenance after the long lockdown period, Food is mainly eastern & Western and quite good. Ample parking in the property.
Our special thanks to Owner Mr Sarath Kumara and his son Rajitha( Manager); staff members KAsunika, Nirasha & Ireshika for making our stay at the hotel very comfortable.

Room Tip: The double rooms closer to the paddy fields are quiet and the view is excellent.

We came to this place as a one night stop after yala np, when we arrived we were welcomed with a papaya juice, after tasting dozens of juices this one was the first one that I could not finish…

The room: The room is just old it looks like my grandmothers room 50 years ago, the airco did not work, the wifi did not reach the room, and there were holes in the roof of the bathroom inviting all sorts of insects, also there was no tv.

The pool: nice warm pool but filthy with green water, we got over it because we were used to swim in lakes…

Prices: the prices for drinks and lunch were the highest i had seen in sri lanka. 10 dollars for noodels, thats around 3600 rupees… normally you pay max 1000 rupees for that.
5 dollars for wine in the most fancy hotel we had been to (morning dew hotel in ella: highly recommend) this was only 3 dollars.

Dinner: in the afternoon they asked us what we wanted to eat, we told them we were thinking of going to the city to eat, and they called our driver to complain about us. (I am sorry but we still decide what we do not our driver) this was very belittling…

After all we decided to eat there because of the full moon festival.
The pasta was all right but the service was not friendly at all.

Breakfast: all right breakfast, again with the disgusting juice.

Wifi: bad wifi, no wifi in the rooms, in the main building and around the pool there was wifi but no “internet connection”

Overall: i would not recommend, plenty of other and i bet you better places to go.

This hotel is quite off the track and far away from any hustle and bustle. It was very relaxing and quiet here and the staff were very good and accommodating. Food was decent, nothing amazing but it was nice. The pool was clean and lovely to just chill around during the day. the rooms were very spacious and clean we enjoyed our two nights here.

Stayed here two nights. Lovely peaceful place at the bottom of a dead end. Beautiful gardens that attract the birds. Rooms have air conditioning and are comfortable with a good shower in the bathroom. Breakfast excellent with a good choice, evening meal very good too.

This is a superb place to chill out before or after a safari or long journey.

We really appreciated the pool and garden, complete with monitor lizards and lovely flowers. The restaurant was top notch and staff extremely friendly especially to our toddler. The chicken curry was particularly good.

All in all, a great package!
