The Hibiscus Garden Hotel has ten comfortable and tastefully decorated rooms, located in separate chalets, which consists of air-condition and minibar. We came to this place as a one night stop after yala np, when we arrived we were welcomed with a papaya juice, after tasting dozens of juices this one was the first one that I could not finish… The room: The room is just old it looks like my grandmothers room 50 years ago, the airco did not work, the wifi did not reach the room, and there were holes in the roof of the bathroom inviting all sorts of insects, also there was no tv. The pool: nice warm pool but filthy with green water, we got over it because we were used to swim in lakes… Prices: the prices for drinks and lunch were the highest i had seen in sri lanka. 10 dollars for noodels, thats around 3600 rupees… normally you pay max 1000 rupees for that. 5 dollars for wine in the most fancy hotel we had been to (morning dew hotel in ella: highly recommend) this was only 3 dollars. Dinner: in the afternoon they asked us what we wanted to eat, we told them we were thinking of going to the city to eat, and they called our driver to complain about us. (I am sorry but we still decide what we do not our driver) this was very belittling… After all we decided to eat there because of the full moon festival. The pasta was all right but the service was not friendly at all. Breakfast: all right breakfast, again with the disgusting juice. Wifi: bad wifi, no wifi in the rooms, in the main building and around the pool there was wifi but no “internet connection” Overall: i would not recommend, plenty of other and i bet you better places to go.…

Lovely hotel with very friendly staff! The grounds were very well maintained with a big clean swimming pool and beautiful garden. During my morning swim I saw and heard lots of different birds! Compared to similar hotels in Sri Lanka, we were happy that there were no dogs! Also no barking dogs at night! Our rooms were spacious and clean! Breakfast was in the restaurant area with a nice view of the surroundings.

We (family of four) were due to stay one night at the Hibiscus hotel in Yala during our Sri Lankan tour. We read some reviews prior to staying so knew to expect some creepy crawlies in and around the hotel, which to be honest doesn’t phase us. However, we were not prepared at all for what we discovered. On arrival we checked in and were shown to our rooms. The staff were friendly and offered us a drink when we arrived. The reception area looked nice but no air conditioning. We were shown to our rooms, which are like cabins, all situated outside in the garden area. The garden area is lovely and the pool looked clean. The rooms however were one of the worst we’ve seen in our lives. The bed linen was filthy with stains all over it and covered in ants on the top, god knows what was underneath. The air con in the room worked but again had an infestation of ants inside it and were all over the walls. We also noticed an iguana running loose on the ceiling of our room. We checked and it didn’t look like any windows were open and we were happy to still stay the one night with my husband spraying ant repellant and catching the iguana. What we didn’t expect to find on checking our bathroom was a dead squirrel lying in the sink, in water. We do not know exactly what had happened or even how this squirrel had got in and ended up in the sink in water, but clearly there is some improvement needed in the housekeeping department. Needless to say we didn’t stay the night and opted to get away fast. I would recommend the hotel to improve on its housekeeping. Make sure all the cabins are secured to stop animals bigger than ants getting in and provide guests with clean linen.…

This is a superb place to chill out before or after a safari or long journey. We really appreciated the pool and garden, complete with monitor lizards and lovely flowers. The restaurant was top notch and staff extremely friendly especially to our toddler. The chicken curry was particularly good. All in all, a great package!

Couple staying for safari visit to Yala national Park. This is a good location for the activity (saw Asian Sloth Bear and Leopard…) so that’s worth doing if you visit. The pool was really great to have as the previous few places we had stayed hadn’t had pools, and it was clean and inviting after a hot safari! The ladies who run the place were friendly. They made us a great packed breakfast for our early morning safari trip! The restaurant menu was a bit limited but the food was good. There were power outages while we stayed which lasted a couple of hours in the afternoon, which weren’t ideal as the a/c is sorely needed for travellers used to cooler climates like us! Like other reviews have said, the grounds are beautiful and there is some cool wildlife around the pool (big lizards nonchalantly swaggering around, bright blue birds flitting about) which was excellent! Laundry service was quick and cheap and silently needed towards the end of a two week holiday!…

Tried this hotel as our favorite place of stay at Kataragama (Refresh Cabanas) full. Hibiscus turned out to be an excellent spot to relax with plenty of bird watching and a very big garden to walk around. There are 2 natural ponds where most of the birds come in the morning and in the evening. If you are lucky you may also see two crocodiles coming to these natural ponds, but we didn't see them. Some of the rooms are opening into the paddy fields which is owned by the Hotel owner. This is a family run business and a very relaxing place to spend your time. The pool was under maintenance after the long lockdown period, Food is mainly eastern & Western and quite good. Ample parking in the property. Our special thanks to Owner Mr Sarath Kumara and his son Rajitha( Manager); staff members KAsunika, Nirasha & Ireshika for making our stay at the hotel very comfortable.…

We stayed here for two nights with the plan of visiting Bundala Bird reserve which was sadly closed due to Corona Virus restrictions. Instead we did a tour of the hotel grounds with our guide and saw over 40 species of birds! It was wonderful to have time by the pool in such a beautiful setting. We loved our poolside ensuite room and the first floor dining room with great views. The food was good and the staff were attentive and friendly. We really enjoyed our stay here and would highly recommend it.
