We stayed at Craigengar Lodge for two weeks over Christmas and New Year. A large group of family and friends attending our daughters wedding at nearby Cairns Farm Estate. The lodge was fabulous and offered us everything we needed for a brilliant sray. It is furnished and equipped to the highest standards. The rooms are spacious, all with en-suites and the beds can be flexibly arranged. The immediate surrounding area was vast and scenic; we were able to walk our dog into the countryside directly from the lodge. The owner was friendly, exceptionally helpful and available nearby, had we needed anything. The lodge was decorated for Christmas including a gorgeous tree. The lodge is a distance from Edinburgh and whilst we did not go often we would suggest using the park & ride

This was our second visit to Craigengar and it did not disappoint! We stayed with family and the kids loved the house and the superb location. This house is very special and I cannot recommend it highly enough. A credit to lovey Geraldine the owner. We hope to see you again soon!

From booking our stay at Steading Cottage to the day we finished our visit, Geraldine 'G' was an excellent host sharing a plethora of information and advice that really helped us plan our holiday! The cottage was very comfortable for the 6 of us and our dog, the family room upstairs was ideal. We loved waking up to the sounds of sheep and cows and being able to visit them next door was an added bonus! The cottage has excellent facilities, particularly in the kitchen, and was very warm and comfortable even on cold rainy days. We would recommend Steading Cottage to friends and family and would definitely stay again. The only thing we would suggest is that if you have an escapee dog like ours, keep them on the lead in the garden as the wall is quite low and it's next to a main road.

Response from Geraldine Hamilton, Owner at Crosswoodhill Farm Holiday Cottages Near Edinburgh
Responded Oct 1, 2022
For the interest of viewers this review is for our large lodge Craigengar which sleeps 12 - 14 and was a family gathering, as Debbie says, where some ground floor bedrooms were a bonus. Thank you, Debbie, for such a nice review. As usual I will be sending a personal thank you email to anyone kind enough to take the time to post a review if I recognise who it is from the reviewer's details. Which is the case for most guests as living very close by I always try to meet them in person.

Stayed for a week at Orledge End for a family holiday and had a fantastic time. The building itself is spacious, welcoming and extremely well appointed, and it's set in a fairly secluded location, but still with a shortish drive to most tourist locations. The host, G, couldn't be more accommodating or helpful, and made sure our stay was hassle free. An excellent base for those looking to visit Edinburgh or Glasgow during the day, but also wanting a peaceful country stay on a night. We'd definitely consider booking again.

Thank you for a wonderful, short break. We only wished we could stay a little longer. It was lovely to meet you, your neighbor and your wonderful cats. What a beautiful house you have, and thank you so much for allowing us to stay. It was a wonderful gesture allowing us to learn about the house and your family, my daughter really enjoyed reading the information on the first evening, thank you for sharing with us. The house and it’s surrounding were so tranquil, the little park in the woods was so endearing and the entire stay made us all feel very relaxed and comfortable. I felt we were nicely central to the places we wanted to visit and your local knowledge and suggestions of where to go were great, we particularly enjoyed Five Sister’s zoo, which we would have missed if it

Recently stayed at Craigengar lodge while I was at very short notice here for the week while my dog underwent treatment at the nearby Edinburgh vet school. Enjoyed my stay in this beautiful house and surroundings which made a difficult week much easier to handle. Myself and the dogs had a great time. G is lovely, very welcoming and keen to help. Will definitely be returning with friends and family soon!

We have had a lovely weeks stay stay at Orlege End. The cottage is a perfect mix of old and new it really is a stunning building. You are welcomed by lovely “G” who will answer any questions you may have but if you forget anything it is explained thoroughly in the welcome books. Don’t worry if you forget to pack anything you can guarantee “G” has thought of it and provided it. It really does have a home from home feel to it. We were up visiting family who live locally and it was the perfect place for us to meet up and spend quality time together. We also recommend the Dog Play Centre if you bring your dog and fancy visiting anywhere in Edinburgh that isn’t dog friendly (in our case the zoo) its about a 15 min drive from the cottage but they will pick up and drop off your dog.

I hosted a yoga retreat with 12 people in the house over the weekend & it was absolute BLISS. The setting is perfect, house was spotless and the owner is extremely helpful. 5* doesn’t give this place justice. A real experience, we are extremely grateful & will use this place as much as we can to host our retreats. Thank you Craigengar & Geraldine for making the retreat the touch more special. Courtney

We had a wonderful stay at Steading Cottage in July 2022. The cottage was spotless, all amenities and more were present, and the landlord was very forthcoming, always keen to help, but also very respectful of our privacy. During our stay at another place the next week, we kept referring to Steading Cottage as a great place, and to G as a great host. Highly recommended!
