Belle Green Bed & Breakfast. Welcome to Belle Green Bed & Breakfast, a perfect place to stay in Near Sawrey, near Hawkshead, Ambleside. Belle Green B&B offers superb rooms with a view and great breakfasts, plus a warm welcome. Belle Green has recently been re-furbished to offer three en-suite guest rooms with views overlooking the village of Near Sawrey where Beatrix Potter wrote her famous children’s books. Situated on the west side of Lake Windermere it is the ideal base to explore the Lake District National Park, do some walking or climbing, or maybe just stroll down to the village pub. Dogs are very welcome and we are open all year round. Hope to see you soon.
Places to stay are graded on a 0-100 scale. The higher the grade, the easier it is for travelers to find restaurants and things to do within walking distance.
A gorgeous relaxing few days at Belle Green .. I just love going there always a wonderful warm welcome from Ann and Steve .. and then up to a comfortable bedroom both cosy and well appointed. with a window seat and view of the garden, . a very comfortable bed ,a chest of drawers tea things all laid out fresh milk and homemade shortbread to go with the tea.! The room where I stayed has a good sized bathroom with a power shower over a big bath where you can soak after a days walking .. or just enjoy anyway The breakfasts are great .always local produce and homemade jam and marmalade. Steve is very helpful and knowledgeable about where to go .. and what visits are available in the area and good place to eat out . Both Ann and Steve are great hosts and it’s always a pleasure to stay with them .so thank you Ann and Steve!

This is a wonderful B & B. Just got back from a 3 night stay wishing we could have stopped longer. What can I say about a perfect stay. The room is very well equipped with tea tray and very moreish biscuits, hairdryer, plenty of storage space and best of all plenty of coat hangers. There is even a torch for a stroll across the road to the local hostelry. The bathroom had a powerful shower over the bath. There were plenty of towels and good quality toiletries that are local made in the Lakes. Everything is very clean. Breakfasts are wonderful- plenty of choice, well cooked and good portions. The homemade marmalade is to die for. Ann and Steve are the perfect hosts. Very friendly and knowledgeable about the Lakes.

Thank you for sharing your beautiful home with us. Steve and Ann were so kind and friendly, exceptional hosts, and went above and beyond. Our room was very comfortable with daily fresh milk served with our tea, coffee or chocolate drink with the best shortbread biscuits. The cosy cottage lounge felt like we were in Beatrix Potter’s home with vast reading material. The atmosphere was quiet and peaceful. The breakfast choice was monumental. The BEST kippers & poached eggs! Dog friendly. The garden was delightful to sit in with the birds feeding, in a tranquil spot. There are places to eat within walking distance. There is a convenient car park on site. Overall an excellent weekend!

This is the loveliest place to stay in The Lake District. Beautiful rooms, amazing breakfast, lovely hosts Anne & Steve have thought of everything you need, wine glasses, corkscrew, torch, hand sanitizer, lovely toiletries and homemade shortbread biscuits. We have stayed several times, and hands down wouldn't stay anywhere else when visiting this part of the country. Always a roaring log fire in the guest lounge. Walkable to Hill Top (Beatrix Potter's house) and to the local pub The Tower Bank Arms, and The Sawrey House hotel which both do evening meals. 5 minutes drive to lovely Hawkshead where more places to eat and nice gift shops are available. Hosts are also eager to recommend walks and other good places to eat. Brilliant base from which to explore the beautiful South Lakes.

I genuinely believe that words can’t do justice for the level of service and perfection that Anne, Steve and their daughter Hattie brought to our holiday; but I’ll try...
Firstly the rooms. Spotless and comfortable, with some very thoughtful finishing touches which included wine glasses and local soaps, and shower products. The level of cleanliness is second to none, and makes you feel guilty for going in your room with your shoes on! And incredibly they are dog friendly too! The beds are very comfortable, and the bedding is super high quality.
Breakfast. Flawless! It was such high quality, from the sausages to the smoked Haddock, the beans to eggs (however you wanted them). It truly sets you up for the day! The attention to detail to every aspect, makes it one of the best breakfasts you’ll get anywhere in the lakes! Even if I wasn’t staying there, I’d want to come for breakfast!
The hosts. Anne and Steve are the most welcoming of people you could wish to meet. Nothing is too much trouble for them, and they are incredibly helpful and kind. My car broke down whilst we were there, and Steve couldn’t have been more helpful in ensuring that it didn’t spoil or holiday too much. And if it weren’t for him and his tractor, the RAC would have had no chance in recovering it! Anne is super helpful, and gives you some great advice on places to visit; we went to Muncaster castle on her recommendation and had a great time!
We can’t recommend this place enough, and we will be returning for a break in the autumn/winter.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay with Anne and Steve at Belle Green. A beautiful whitewashed old farmhouse which has been tastefully decorated inside. Our room was comfortable and clean, though the mattress was a little hard for us, and the bathroom was quite large and immaculately clean. Loved the complimentary toiletries and was glad to see they were refillable. The homemade shortbread buiscuits were yummy and it was lovely to have fresh milk for our cups of tea. We were made to feel very welcome, including our dog who stayed for free. Had a wonderful, fresh cooked breakfast every morning which set us up perfectly for a nice long walk in the stunning, surrounding countryside. Would definitely recommend and would certainly stay again. We recommend that you make dinner reservations at the local pub prior to arriving as they are very popular but small. Hawkshead is also good for evening eateries with a few places taking walk ins.

What an absolute little gem of a B+B 👍🏼. Hidden away in the tiny hamlet of Near Sawrey, it’s an ideal base for exploring the Lakes. It’s extremely peaceful and quiet. Ann and Steve who own and run the place are such a lovely couple. So welcoming from even before I arrived. Everything was done to perfection given the current climate. My room was my sanctuary and I only had to ask if I needed anything doing or anything extra. I was lucky and had a bath in my en suite which was heaven after lots of walking! After getting soaked a few times, Ann took my coat and dried it in their part of the house, and you can leave your boots by the fire in the breakfast room. Breakfast was a proper feast 👌🏼. Pretty much whatever you fancy is on the menu, and you can choose from the list of cooked items. It was one of the best B+B breakfasts I’ve ever had, and kept me going until late into the afternoon. There are only 3 rooms so it’s not swarming with guests, and this makes it feel even more personal. There’s a little snug/lounge the guests can use, which in the winter, I think would be really cosy. If you’re thinking of booking here, then do so; you won’t be disappointed.

A fabulous find in a unique position in the heart of Near Sawrey. The welcome from Ann and Steve was extremely friendly and inviting. We were given a room called the Three Dubs which was quite spacious with splendid garden views extending over to Beatrix Potters, Hill Top. The bed was very comfortable and we slept well in the tranquil surroundings. The hosts were exceedingly accommodating and the breakfasts were first class. The actual building encompasses so much history and for the Potter enthusiast it should be noted that Beatrix actually stayed at Belle Green on two occasions while Hill Top Farm which she purchased was being renovated. Our 4 night stay was most enjoyable, so much so, we have already booked a further stay in October.

Superb bed and breakfast. Everything is spotless. Our room overlooked the garden and had a lovely little window seat. There was plenty of storage space and coat hangers. The bathroom had a powerful shower over the bath. It had also had good quality toiletries. We were kindly supplied with a torch on an evening as there are no street lights. There is a guest sitting room with television and open fire that is great for chilling out in after a long walk on the fells. Plenty of choice at breakfast. All the food is well cooked and well presented. Ann and Steven are the perfect hosts. I can't recommend this B and B highly enough.

I would rate the bed and breakfast and the area as five out of five. We chose the area as we hadn't stayed around there before and we weren't disappointed. Near Sawrey is really unspoilt and undeveloped it has probably looked the same for the past 100 yrs. The B&B was a delight owned and run by a lovely couple. The breakfasts were so good we couldn't eat lunch and there is a good choice. We took our dog with us and didn't have any problems, he settled in just as well. This is a lovely place to base yourself for Windermere, Ambleside and Hawkshead area. There are plenty of walks and things to do either a short walk or drive away. The local pub is only down the road and this was a great place to end the day.
