We drove into St Arnauds without reservations and were fortunate enough to get the last room. Russell and Margery were great hosts and the accommodations were private with access to the spacious and cozy common areas. Margery cooked a wonderful and large breakfast. Russell went out of his way to be helpful with recommendations and information. Great location. Highly recommended.

We stayed for 2 nights. Great location within walking distance to the lake. Very friendly and helpful hosts. Comfortable and cozy rooms. Both breakfast and dinner were tasty and the coffee was great. We enjoyed our time and the conversation with Russell and Margery. We'll come back:-)

We greatly enjoyed our recent stay at St Arnaud House. The house is situated in picturesque Beech forest within easy walking distance of Lake Rotoiti. The early morning birdsong is a feature. Inside, the house is comfortable and spacious with a high standard of furnishing. Russell and Marjorie are great hosts. The breakfast, including both continental and cooked is of... More

Marjorie and Russell were so kind, giving us lots of information at the start of our 8 week trip. We loved the way that we all ate together, and Marjorie's cooking and Russell's coffee are the best. Going to sleep listening to the tui , and waking up again to bird song just added to the ambience.

We stayed one night with Russell and Marjorie prior to hiking the Lake Angelus circuit. We can't say enough good things about our stay - the B&B is in a lovely setting just 600 meters from Lake Rotoiti. We stayed in the Bellbird Room and got a great night's sleep before our big hike. The best part was Marjorie's fresh... More

This bed and breakfast is rustic and cozy, located 10 minutes walk to the Lake and in the middle of forest so lots of bird sounds. Our bed was very comfortable and the innkeepers, Russell and Margery were knowledgeable and offered some very good suggestions for things to do in the area and driving routes. Also, they cooked a prearranged... More

We stayed for one night at this B&B. Like others have noted, it was rather difficult to find. Our room was lovely and the hosts were very welcoming. The breakfast was excellent, amongst the very best we found in a month in NZ and Australia. We thought the evening meal was nice enough but rather overpriced at $45 for a... More

We trawled up and down the main drag three time looking for a Holland Street sign, before giving up and asking at the store cum fuel station. The girl there hadn't heard of St Arnaud House or Holland Street, but luckily a patron had, so we were soon on the right track. Note to self - print out the map... More

We stayed in the Robin room, which was exactly as described - you wake to the sound of Bell birds and Tuis and the bathroom is as small as described. Margery's breakfast - everything from cereals to the full cooked via fresh fruit and yogurt will more than set you up for the day, what ever you decide to do.... More

On our current tour of New Zealand's South Island, we had the most wonderful overnight stay with Russell and Marjorie Chilton at this B&B here. After spending the afternoon enjoying a stroll around nearby Lake Rotoiti, we checked in to a warm welcome. Like visit g friends, we were immediately invited to join them for afternoon tea and biscuits in... More
