It is difficult to rate anything as low, but circumstances do tolerate such a rating. During this difficult time, when hotels and tourist attractions have reopened, we all need to follow the advice of care and attention to detail. Most hotels have been closed for a painfully long time and, when reopening have adhered to thorough cleaning. Sadly and regrettably, this is not the case for this hotel. Grubby and tired. Not in any sense has there been a deep clean of this place. But the worst part is that the rooms have spas/jacuzzi which of course need even more attention to cleanliness. When booking the hotel and again upon arrival, I did ask if the rooms and spas were thoroughly disinfected, and had the reassurance of the staff and owner. This was not the case, as after slightly overfilling the spa, the jets bubbled and released faeces into a scum around the corner surface. Unfortunately not immediately noticeable...... The 'grime' was at the very top of the spa seal, difficult to see at first, but shocking after. The point is made... However, when asking a member of staff to view both the bathroom and the spa, I was told that I am too fussy in respect of the bathroom and, that the spa problem was 'not there yesterday' Taking a towel and wiping the top edge of the spa, it was easy to demonstrate what had built up - the white towel displayed the colour and degree of the problem. Had there been equal shock/surprise and maybe a little regret from the staff, it might have helped the situation, but this was not forthcoming and really, no additional time could be wasted trying to make this serious point.…
We booked through Booking.com for the opera, it’s so close to the opera. The hotel is small and while I would say it’s a three star hotel, it’s very clean, the staff are very friendly and helpful. We had a standard room which was modern with a very impressive shower. Clean sheets and pillow cases everyday. It was an ideal hotel for the opera and would have no problem staying again.
We booked Hotel Butterfly through Booking.com several months ago, we were going to see La Boheme, a joint Christmas and 75th birthday treat. Because of a mistake by the hotel-acknowledged in an email by Booking.com we ended up having a standard room for two nights and the Aphrodite suite for the third night of our stay. We flew into Pisa airport and as we were on a budget caught the bus to Torre Del Lago centre at around 1.30pm after a 4.30am start to the day. We guessed it was a bit of a walk to the hotel, there were no taxis around so my husband phoned the hotel and asked if the receptionist could call us a taxi. She told us it was only a 5 minute walk along the road. In fact it was 1.6km and 20 minutes by Google’s reckoning. We had luggage, it was 30 degrees and we were tired, not the best start to our dream weekend. We later discovered a bus went along the street regularly, in fact it passed us. We finally made it, tired and hot and was shown to our room, 104. It was small but had a comfortable bed, big bathroom with a fabulous shower and, most importantly quiet and effective air conditioning. The location of the hotel is perfect, opposite the lake, a few steps away from the Puccini museum and the opera venue. There are hourly boat trips around the lake, we had one of these and felt more relaxed. There is an excellent cafe at the front of the hotel which we enjoyed a lot, friendly service and nice cakes. The hotel restaurant was also excellent with a wonderful view of the lake, we were talked through the menu by the friendly and efficient waiter, the wine waiter was also great, the food delicious. Breakfasts with a limited choice were taken in the restaurant which looked different in the morning, someone has a good eye for design, we liked the shabby chic furniture. Again the waiter was very friendly and efficient. The Aphrodite suite was quirky, once again a comfortable bed and excellent air conditioning. The hotel seemed to fail when it came to the reception staff, I asked if it would be possible to post a postcard from the hotel, holding it up so the receptionist could see, she had no idea, said the kiosk across the way may be able to post it for me, in fact we discovered a post box there. We had a wonderful few days in Torre Del Lago and spent less than we expected so asked at reception how much a taxi back to Pisa airport would cost. We were told 30 euros so asked her to order us one for the following afternoon. When the taxi arrived he told us 80 euros, very annoying and embarrassing, if we’d known we would have caught the bus back. An upsetting beginning and end to an otherwise great weekend.…
very unusual hotel with jacuzzi under the double bed.... I think because we were 3 we were given the honeymoon suite which was roomy! Hearts all over the wall (painted gold), candle everywhere, even in the loo! friendly staff but rather minimum choice for breakfast...
Absolutely loved this restaurant. Perfect location for a meal before the opera. Booked in person on the day and asked in advance to see the menu as I eat gluten free. As soon as we sat down they brought me the most delicious and fresh gluten free bread because they had obviously noted it on the reservation. This rarely happens! There was a great range of gluten free options including desserts. The best meal of the holiday so far even for my gluten eating companions! Not to mention the excellent service and the fantastic location.
Lovely evening dinner with friends before heading off to the Madame Butterfly Opera🦋. Waiter was very friendly tried very hard to understand what we wanted to eat and drink . Overall a lovely view outside looking out over the peaceful Lake .
Location was great if travelling by car or train. Very friendly place. Good food at restaurant well worth it. Great proximity to opera just a walk across the square. Very peaceful location to stay if you need to relax from a day of sightseeing.
This is a review of two halves. We stayed here for one night, en route back to Pisa airport, after a mini tour of Tuscany. If you are looking for a hotel within striking distance of Pisa airport, only 20 minutes, with free parking, in a stunning location, then this is it. The lakeside position and the views from the hotel terrace are breathtaking. The hotel is a little quirky, the rooms are very individually furnished and decorated. Quite opulent and very different, raised beds and quite ostentatious. It wasn't to my taste to be honest. Our room was small, but perfectly adequate. The bed was very comfortable, the spa shower was unnecessary and I would have preferred a conventional unit if I am honest. The room was a bit stuffy and the a/c unit struggled to cope with the heat. On the whole I would recommend a stay here, as the restaurant was simply amazing! The food was served to us under a beautiful pergola on the terrace, the maitre d' chose wine for each course which was a great touch, and the food was top class! Not terrible expensive either. For us it was a wonderful way to end our trip.…
