Spent a few days here before leaving Guernsey having sold our house and can say my only disappointment is that we had not been here before. The hotel was excellent. Very friendly staff and the rooms were very nice. We had a ground floor room with a large window and it was a very nice size. Hotel has a lovely atmosphere with a really nice bar area. Also used the restaurant and had some wonderful food. We throughly enjoyed our stay here and will definitely make this our hotel of choice when we visit Guernsey in the future.

On arrival greeted by friendly and helpful staff, check in, as should be theses days was quick and efficient. Room was clean tidy. Toilet is separate room to the bathroom, which is a good thing for hygiene and being separate means no wait if someone is having a bath or shower. Nice selection of tea, coffee and hot chocolate drinks in room and Border biscuits. Soap, shampoo and body wash provided in bathroom. Room is freshly decorated and has new carpeting. Beds are comfortable with spare blankets in cupboards, though an efficient programmable heater is provided. Quite, with no perceptible sound from other rooms or corridors. There is a second door to separate the bedroom from the toilet and bathroom to make a short corridor before the room entrance door, which provides a sound barrier to the main corridor. Breakfast, the English breakfast option could be supplemented with a vegetarian sausage option. Continental style breakfast buffet available, with good selection of breakfast cereals and pastries. Coffee is served in a cafetière so that you can decide on how strong you want it. We have half board so there is a choice of evening meal options. The food is of a satisfactory to good quality and given the cost is very reasonable. Service is quick and efficient. The hotel is very clean and has a modern appearance in decor. Seating in the bar and lounge area is comfortable and clean. There is a pool, which is reasonably large for those who like to do laps and is 1.7 metres deep at its deep end, attached children’s pool. The pool is heated but at this time of year the temperature was tepid, but still good for swimming in. Hotel is in a quite location on the coast. Grounds are nice and we’ll kept. There is a bus route which passes close to the hotel and for £1 one way takes you to St. Peter Port. Buses only accept contactless cards and mobile phone app payments. Though you can obtain a ‘Puffin’ card, which is a prepayment card that you load with credit and allows you to travel at a cost per journey of 65 pence instead of £1. So far this Guernsey hotel, rated at 3 stars by Guernsey is delivering a service of a minimum 3.5 stars. Room has a fixed 24 inch flat screen TV, good sound and picture quality. Hairdryer in room. There is available a laundry room with washing machine and dry, useful for walkers whose attire becomes soiled or wet. Iron and ironing board in the laundry room for those suitcase creased clothing items. Good cupboard and draw space in room. Telephone in room. Free hotel WiFi in bedrooms, adequate speed and reliability.

I don’t normally leave negative reviews, as I appreciate how tough the hospitality industry has things at the moment. However I feel very strongly that families are being taken advantage of here and need to be aware before booking this hotel! Pros Bar and restaurant staff were excellent, very friendly, warm and welcoming. Even when busy they were excellent. Bar area, restaurant and reception area is high quality and stylish Grounds are well kept and extensive Location is lovely and quiet Cons Nice pool, but I do agree with a previous review that dip and dine can be irritating. One kids swimming party with 10+ kids dive bombing into the pool repeatedly, another groups child did a poo in the pool, the pool was not immediately closed and notices were not put up that extra chemicals had recently been put in the pool. There is no lifeguard/person to supervise pool activity. Family rooms are extremely substandard compared to sea view doubles which have clearly been recently renovated. Yet it appears are pretty much the same price as the nice rooms with super king comfy beds!! My parents had one of these lovely rooms. Family rooms sold as double and twin, you actually get a soft 4ft6 bed in each room and a rock hard, pretty much like sleeping on a wooden plank, single in each room. Rooms are tired, bathrooms tired. We were quoted a price for the room of £1,113 for 7 nights bed and breakfast. I repeatedly asked the reservations manager on the phone while booking to confirm the TOTAL price for the family room was £1,113, which she confirmed was the total price. Imagine our horror at check out when we were told our bill was DOUBLE! The cost was £1,113 for only one room of the two interconnecting rooms!! For the money the family rooms are shameful, a classic example of a “that will do” policy for families while focusing on the double rooms for those without children. Had I realised we were paying a fortune for our room, I would have complained on arrival about the poor standard of our room, which by the way is never featured in the gallery on the hotel website! These rooms should not be charged at full rate per room! I remain shocked and appalled, by the whole situation. The reservations manager was very aggressive and rude when we challenged the bill. She just wanted to have a big row at the front desk. We only stopped her aggression by walking away as she would have continued arguing with us indefinitely at the front desk. This left us feeling very unwelcome and uncomfortable as we then had to wait around for our flight home. Other members of staff spoke to us later to apologise for the way we had been treated. Reception staff, mixed on customer service and friendliness, one especially was not friendly. We had one over 12 who had to be PCR tested on arrival and isolate until result was back, reception lady was unfriendly, we didn’t get the usual information at check in. My parents did get this information on their check in, so I know the difference. She also ran off at great speed and was difficult to find when showing us to our room, very odd. Overall opinion Families beware, interconnecting family rooms are not priced as per industry standard- total price for both rooms. Even when you check and double check on the phone with the reservations manager, you will be misled. The price quoted is only one room you will have to double it yourself! Family rooms are nothing like those represented on the website, no where near 3 star, more like 2 star with very uncomfortable clearly quite old beds.

Thank you for taking the time to write a detailed review. We too would certainly not want anyone to be misled and as such can provide the below details in relation to your review. We are sorry that you felt irritated by a group of children in the pool, you are correct about there being no lifeguard on duty and there are signs around the area to highlight this as well as that parents are required to supervise their children at all times. We are a family friendly hotel so a large portion of children in the pool on any given day will also be children staying in the hotel. As the industry relies on islanders to support us through the off-peak season, many hotels here will offer dip & dines for a period over lunch time during the summer and resident only swimming for the rest of the day to try to maintain a balance for both locals & visitors. With regards to the accident that a child had in the pool as soon as we were informed, the pool was closed for essential cleaning. Those at the poolside were informed and a sign was also placed at reception to advise the pool was closed. The hotel does have some rooms which were not as recently renovated, rather than increasing rates for renovated rooms we kept all rooms as a 'standard' category other than sea view. We take your feedback on board and will consider options for rates for the future. The king beds are formed by zip & link twin beds. As some rooms throughout the hotel have double beds, we continue to brochure only as double or twin as it is not possible to guarantee which room a booking will be assigned until the day of arrival. We are sorry that you felt misinformed about the price of a room. We are unclear as to how this would happen as we can see that we have sent confirmation in writing at the time of booking by e-mail on 4th June. That confirmation detailed the price per room per night for an inter-connecting double with interconnecting twin and the double with sea view. There was no mention of a family room. For the two interconnecting rooms to have come to a total of £1113 for 7 nights on bed and breakfast rate in high season would mean the rate for each room per night would have been £79.50 inclusive of breakfast for 2 people which would not be in line with industry standard. Our family rooms can sleep up to 3 adults and 1 child (under 12yrs) due to the 4th bed being a roll away bed. Subject to availability and for families where children are older we have interconnecting rooms, however as this is then 2 rooms as opposed to 1 room they are charged accordingly. Our check-in process for anyone who arrives and is required to isolate does have to remain slightly different to protect both staff and other guests though we are sorry that your experience was not as we would have expected and we thank you for this feedback so that we can monitor this. We also thank you for the positive comments about the friendliness and warm welcome of our team, along with the comments about the hotel and location.

We decided to go to Guernsey as a safe option following 18 months of lockdown. And for a nice quiet break. We chose the Peninsula hotel because of it's location near the beach and one of only a few hotels with an outdoor pool. We hired a car and explored the small lovely Island. Pros: location, clean, good breakfast buffet friendly staff, large bar with excellent cocktails ( a bit pricey at £9.95 each ), Good restaurant serving good food from a limited menu. prompting us to eat out in the evenings most nights. Large outdoor pool with plenty of sun loungers........However....See Cons ! Cons: Rooms small with very hard uncomfortable beds, no plug sockets next to beds to charge phone. Claimed to have a mini golf course. lady on reception knew nothing about it, and we couldn't find it. POOL...is a public lido every day from 12 noon. The hotel does a ' dip and dine ' for the general public every day . People come along with their children for lunch and can use the pool for the remainder of the day. This was NOT advertised on the website. There were long waits for lunch and drinks as the staff were too busy attending to non hotel guests. We, along with other hotel guests complained to no avail. The pool was very noisy and packed with young children. We went the week before the school holidays, that was bad enough. Must be much worse now! Would not go there again for that reason.

We thank you for the honest review and positive feedback regarding the cleanliness of the hotel, friendliness of our staff and our great food & drinks. We apologise for having missed a mention of the pitch and putt on our website and we are in the process of having that corrected so thank you for drawing it to our attention. We offer dip & dine's to non resident hotel guests from 11-3.30 daily. At 3.30pm the pool becomes resident only swimming until closing at 8pm daily. The long queues you may have experienced are indeed unfortunate and our team have been doing their very best to manage these. There are two main reasons for this, the first is when people unfortunately arrive late for their table reservations which means that certain times become too busy. The second is that globally the hospitality industry is suffering from a shortage of staff and we too are affected, meaning whilst we have tried to keep the service level as high as we can our team are doing so with substantially less members of staff than we need. Whilst we continue to do our best to mitigate both of these issues unfortunately they are out of our control. We hope this goes some way to providing answers to your complaints and thank you for your understanding as we navigate these difficult and unprecedented times.

We've been to the Peninsula many times before and the rooms are very comfortable. The pool remains an excellent attraction and the location suits us very well. The staff, especially Hugo and as usual Becky the reservations manager, were all as helpful as they could be. However, having booked on a half Board basis, and previously having always enjoyed our evening meals we were somewhat disappointed in the restricted menu, which was heavy on fish dishes thus restricting choice even further if you're not a fish eater. This meant some adults in the party having to order from the children's menu ! When first presented with the menu it was clear the serving staff expected us to pay separately for the evening meal and when we explained we were booked in on a half board basis the response was "what's half board". While this was eventually resolved the limited menu remained all week and covered both lunch and dinner times. While we realise things haven't been easy for the hospitality sector with the pandemic we felt the hotel was not as prepared as it might have been if staff are not even briefed on things like half board and given the restricted menu. We didn't expect a huge choice but a few more options would have been appreciated and the Sunday roast, which was excellent, certainly proved it could be done. We hope these issues are resolved sooner rather than later to avoid other disappointed customers.

We do apologise for the fact that the restaurant team weren't aware on the first night about half board, you are quite right they would normally have been advised and unfortunately this was a communications breakdown. As you note things are difficult for hospitality currently with the constant changes and many of the new team members are still learning so we appreciate your understanding. The feedback you provided on your comments card was noted and discussed immediately with our chef who has taken steps to provide additional non fish items for guests on half board. Due to the restrictions which were only lifted in July we weren't in a position to offer the additional menus we would normally have had in place for individuals on a half board basis which provide different daily menu options. In hindsight we note that perhaps it would have been best to remove the option of half board until a later date and will remain conscious of that in this ever changing season. We look forward to the chance to welcome you back in more normal times & once again thank you for your understanding and constructive feedback.
