Stuck in the 60's this hotel is unlikely to make it to 21st century standards without a total rethink. Our room (25} had mould round the bath, a dirty floor and bath panel and the shower curtain kept falling off as it was balanced on the wall tiles. Beds were not properly made, just folded back up. Dining room was spartan,... More

We found your intrusive questioning unacceptable since most guests come here to enjoy the scenery and walking, not to delve into other people's business and learn all the waiters' names and backgrounds. The room was clean and functional infact, but you omit 21st century features like a new hot water system, contract laundry, excellent food along with free wifi, barista... More

We stayed for just one night, and had clean and comfortable rooms with fine views over the loch. The hotel would benefit from a refurb in some areas, but overall it is absolutely fine.Staff were very friendly and helpful and the bar meals and breakfasts were very good.

We stayed here for 3 nights in mid September and found it a fantastic experience. The staff were very welcoming, helpful and friendly and nothing was too much bother for them. The food was excellent and although there was a large coach party staying in the hotel the service was very good. The views from the restaurant are outstanding and... More

Had dinner here recently. Managed to get an early table on spec, before a coach party arrived. Meal was lovely and wine was of good quality. Only reservation was that both my fish starter & main course we're under seasoned, but easily remedied! Had a few drams in the bar afterwards. Barmaid Maggie was very friendly, then staggered back to... More

This hotel was next door to our guest house in Morar. We had a lovely meal, best monkfish I have ever had! Which was followed by the quiz on a Thursday evening. What a fantastic atmosphere and great hospitality. We dined there on a Friday too, cannot fault this place and would be happy to go back . Even when... More

Thank you for your kind comments. We believe in good hospitality and friendliness especially after your long drive to get here. Fresh seafood is right on our doorstep and you are right, that people come here specially for the dining room. With larger parties a pre-order especially involving seafood, is required. We balance tour groups and private guests and in... More

Dismal decor, under-staffed, and memorably awful food. I had high expectations - it had a good reputation several years ago; the setting is beautiful; and it ought to be a great place for local produce. If you are remotely foodie, do not eat here. This hotel does Scottish tourism a disservice. At least it was cheap, but what a waste... More

We've read your opinion but actually this tries to deflect blame from yourself. It was a poorly-organised event which our staff managed to handle professionally and tactfully. As agreed, you were to provide a pre-order for 18 people the day before, but this was not provided and, probably, neither were your guests asked either. You then required us to provide... More

The Morar hotel was very accommodating of our needs at a busy period, we were very appreciative of the manager who went out of his way to help us. A very ordinary hotel with the most amazing views serving good food in a very ordinary dining room. Access to the beautiful beach alone would bring us back yo this hotel.

Thank you for your feedback. The moment you step into Morar Hotel, you can sense you are inside a grand old hotel with its fireplaces, high ceilings, grand piano and dramatic location formerly owned by Lord Lovat. This is where Sir Arnold Bax wrote his entire 4th symphony and where Prince Michael of Kent used to come when fishing on... More

This is a great place to stay, and one I keep going back to...... owners are excellent, staff work really hard, the bedrooms are great, and the views amazing. Food/meals are always a pleasure, and the beer selection is always being worked upon, which is great.

Initially heading for the sands at Morar but ended up having lunch on the terrace at The Morar Hotel. The weather was idyllic, 22 degrees C and blue skies. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Recently taken over and substantially refurbished, one of Scotland's most historic hotels, the Morar Hotel is a friendly family-owned Edwardian mansion house on the romantic 'Road to the Isles', 3 miles from Mallaig, the Southern Gateway to the Isle of Skye. Commanding breathtaking views of the famous Silver Sands of Morar and the Inner Hebridean islands of Rum & Eigg, its panoramic views and comfortable accommodation have made it the perfect coastal escape for many years. Built in 1902, originally as the Station hotel, it is only metres from the train station. Now a modern character hotel with wifi and satellite TV and open to the public, it is only 50 minutes from Fort William by the new road, or an hour by scheduled train services or in the summer by the special Jacobite Steam Train, as featured in the Harry Potter films. The overnight service from London (Euston) leads to Morar Station opposite the hotel and car hire is available in Fort William or Morar. ... more   less
