We had our wedding here in October, I cannot express how amazing the staff have been throughout the last 2 years of changes due to covid all the way to the day itself. Caring, compassionate, on the ball. Leading up to the day Sarah was a amazing event coordinator and couldn't have been more helpful throughout. Eleanor was there on the day and was a absolute Ray of sunshine and had everything under control so we didn't need to think of a thing. The food was amazing and everyone complimented how large the portions were, the salmon was absolute perfection. They happily catered to all our dietary requirements and the vegan food was spot on and not thrown together like alot of venues I have been to previously. I could not recommend them more.

We stayed at Elizabeth House for six nights with two other couples. From the initial enquiry to departure, all the staff were extremely pleasant and professional. This hotel prides itself on weddings and functions and is used to patrons staying one or two nights so they were slightly taken aback that we were staying six as not used to leisure breaks. We stayed in Sir Francis Drake room which is a deluxe room. Very clean, well appointed room. The bathroom was immaculate and our only comment would be is that a caddy or table to put toilet bags on would be a major improvement. Shelf space is limited without toilet bag getting wet by the sink. Our room was cleaned everyday by a lovely housekeeper. We stayed on a dinner bed and breakfast rate which was exceptional value. The food is simply quite delicious with lots of choices. Portions are on the large side so we did a mix and match with some starters as the week progressed. Our only negative comment about the food is that the vegetables were far too al dente to be enjoyable. Just a few more minutes cooking would have made every meal exceptional. The grounds are lovely to walk around and a nice outside space to sit when the weather good enough to do so. The bar area was also very pleasant to sit in for more and post dinner drinks. The hotel is very busy for dinner as is known locally as ‘the’ place to go to but the staff work extremely hard to keep everything under control especially in these times of hospitality issues. We would thoroughly recommend this hotel if you are looking for a break away where they know the meaning of good hospitality.

Booked the private dining room for a small family celebration on a Thursday evening and chose private dining menu 2. The venue was lovely and the staff were very attentive and helpful right from the start of booking to the evening itself. I am a coeliac and have to eat a strict gluten free diet and they catered for me really well with lots of choice which I was very impressed with. Food wise the portions were very generous (maybe a little too big for some) and most of the food was delicious. The amuse bouche was extremely tasty, the starters all seemed to go down well although slight disappointment for those who had the mackerel pate with melba toast as the Melba toast was the size of a tortilla chip. The main issue was the vegetables that came with the kleftico (which most people had) as they were extremely undercooked and definitely not al dente. The dauphinoise potato was like eating raw sliced potato and quite awful and the majority of us who had this were not able to eat the potato at all however due to the size of the kleftico itself not sure anyone would have been able to eat all the vegetables anyway. All the desserts were delicious although not all were complete ie for those who had the creme brulee some did not have the chocolate ice cream with it. In summary, the staff were brilliant, the venue perfect, most of the food delicious but due to the missing items on some desserts and the very undercooked veges this let it down and not sure I would be in a rush to return

Late booking for a one night stay, most other places in Devon fully booked as everyone on staycations, so we were surprised to find this available at a not too expensive rate for July - so we were a little wary! How wrong were we. Whilst the room was a little tight on space in places, this was more than offset by the large size of the classy bathroom, both were well decorated, clean and very comfortable. The bonus here is the bar & restaurant service - we booked dinner bed & breakfast and the service was excellent both at dinner and at breakfast, proper waiter/waitress service, quick, efficient, and professional. The bar area is classy and very welcoming for pre-dinner drinks. If I had to describe the hotel the word I would use is ‘elegant’, and we would not hesitate to stay if we travel to this part if Devon again
