Please beware. This is a 9 hole course and if you are booking make sure you emphasise you want to play 18 holes. We played 18 holes 4 years ago and were charged a reasonable 35 euros. On booking for this year, for a party of 11, I was informed the cost was a more expensive 50 euros but, as we’d played there a number of times, I booked. Imagine turning up and being informed at that stage, that the price was for 9 holes. It is not worth 100 euros for a round. Imagine also, that the charge for a buggy, for 9 (nine) holes, was 30 euros. Imagine being charged 50 euros for 9 holes on a Friday, and 40 euros for two different (18 hole) golf courses on the Saturday and Sunday. The golf course was in good condition, hence the two star rating but, we will not return, and didn’t spend hundreds in the bar afterwards like we did previously. Beware.…
This is the best hotel I have ever stayed at. It is beautiful, the staff is SO helpful and everything is perfect. We actually ate at Palmers for 3 nights and everything was so good. We had a family room which was nice and large for my family of 4. Overall, we loved our time here and it is a great value for the cost considering that breakfast is included. They even provided us with two drink coupons to use at the bar which was a very nice touch. One more thing, we had to leave early on our last morning and the staff was nice enough to pack breakfast to-go. So great, loved our stay here.
Wow! What a place! We have stayed in some pretty amazing hotels over the years but never have we experienced such luxury! Glenlo Abbey is truly luxurious and absolutely beautiful in every aspect. Unfortunately I fell ill when we arrived so never got to experience everything the hotel has to offer but the room and it’s fittings and furnishings are truly luxurious and exquisite. If you’re after something very special then this is the place!
Glenlo Abbey is a beautiful hotel. I stayed here recently with my family and felt the need to write a review given the warm hospitality we received from everyone at the property. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed by Troy. He provided amazing local recommendations that we capitalized on and he even went above and beyond driving my family to town in the hotel shuttle when there were no cabs large enough to fit us around. Jordi at the lobby bar was also a complete rockstar - patiently making a custom cosmo for my mom! He was so friendly and warm. Everyone we encountered was great though. Breakfast was delicious and set in a stunning room - you could order a warm meal and then browse the cold buffet while it cooked. My siblings and I also stayed in a family sized room which had a generous over sized bathroom. Pro tip: ask to stay in the newer section of the hotel.…
The hotel is an aging "country house hotel", with rooms built before handicapped access was required. No ramp for wheely luggage, let alone wheel chairs. No elevators. Rooms accessed by stairs only. General reaction of extended family group was "disappointing". Pleasant setting, but Lough Corrib at some distance from the hotel and quite narrow at that point. Walking access (+/- half mile) comes with warning of stray golf balls. "Grounds" converted into 9-hole golf course. No sign of the "two bicycles per room" although wet and windy while we were there. One good public room where breakfast is served, although reservation required for breakfast. Other public rooms are tired (frayed carpet in "residents lounge"). Train dining rooms rusting in place - and yes, we did look closely at them. Rusted through in some places, and cobwebs. View rooms look onto squat three-story building that contains two meeting rooms and casual dining room/ cum golf club drinks location. We had a room overlooking the garden, with windows secured in place with screws. Could not be opened. Some traffic noise from main road. Bathroom updated at some point. Comfortable, but... In need of a make-over.…
We stayed here 3 nights during our Ireland road trip and it is located less than 2 hours drive from both Dublin airport and cliffs of Moher. We booked the room with Hyatt points and hotel was busy over the weekend with a wedding. Hotel is located in several acres with distant water views and walkable golf courses. Internet connection is fast (~50mbps) and breakfast was excellent with both hot (freestyle eggs, pancakes, French toast) and cold (cereals, fruits) items. Room size, mattress, bathroom amenities are all up to the expectations. Pillows were a bit thin & collapsing and they did not have any memory foam pillows available.
We only stayed one night but we packed in all that we could including afternoon tea, dinner and falconry with Jason which was absolutely the highlight of our stay! Of course, the rooms are very lovely-we had 2 large family rooms (6 people total) one had a huge, luxurious bath with tub & large shower. I loved that they provide wall mounted bottles of toiletries to minimize environmental impact. The staff was quite lovely, especially Michael who greeted us with a tour of the property & the Pullman restaurant & bid us good bye just as warmly. Wait staff was also great, especially during afternoon tea service (Lily) and breakfast (Chloe). The reception desk attendants were wonderful as well. The only downside we encountered was rain the afternoon we arrived that prevented exploration of the property. Would have like to tour around on bicycle.…
A group of us stayed here in March for a birthday celebration and I can honestly say it was one of the best hotels in Ireland I have ever visited. It is a very elegant hotel and the rooms were fabulous with everything you could possibly need. All of the staff were very friendly and helpful but I will give particular mention to Michael, the concierge, and Sandra and Jennifer at reception. They went out of their way to make us all feel welcome and we got the impression that no matter what we would request they would do what they could to arrange it. We ate at the Pullman restaurant on the first night and it was a fabulous experience, a must if you are staying at the hotel. We ate dinner in the bar on the second night and, again, we all had a very enjoyable meal. We booked the Falconry experience and I am so glad we did - it was brilliant, Thanks to Jason and his wealth of knowledge and fascinating facts about the birds. I would highly recommend this. Overall, a fabulous trip. I would highly recommend Glenlo Abbey and we will be back!…
We were booked at the Abbey by our travel agent. This was the end of a two week holiday traveling around the country and an absolutely perfect way to end our stay in Ireland. From the moment you step into the facility it feels like a moment back in time with the elegant surroundings and the genuine attention and hospitality of the staff, especially Jordi in the Resident’s bar, were first class. Look forward to coming back again!
Absolute perfection! So this is what 5 star accommodation is all about. The message from the entrance to this beautiful hotel is "we are here to make your stay enjoyable". Met by Troy and Phillip who carried our cases up the steps and to our rooms...smiles all round. More friendly staff at reception...in fact, all the staff without exception were friendly , helpful and clearly glad to be working here at Glenlo. Food, room, everything to a high standard. Enjoyed our night at the in house cinema, popcorn included! Beautiful walk around the perimeter and down to the jetty. Next time will book a trip on the Corrib Princess. Lots to do and see. Pullman dining was enjoyable. Took a trip out the road to Silver Strand and watched the kite surfers. Glorious!! Looking forward to a return visit. Oops, almost forgot, this gluten free veggie was more than happy with her meals, especially in Palmers Bar. My favourite room was the Abbey. Beautifully decorated. Could sit there all day reading.…
