Most of the staff were friendly. Our room was nice but noisy: people slamming doors, tv nextdoor too loud, room above extremely noisy floor. There was wifi in some areas in the pub but not in the guest rooms. Breakfast and other meals were very good.

Stopped here for a late lunch. Lovely welcoming staff and good service. Nice menu. Summer salad with figs, feta and raspberries was excellent- and a little bit different. Highly recommend. Good beer too!

We booked this as it was near the Big Cat sanctuary. Also we prefer old, traditional buildings. We came up from Sussex on Saturday 18th as we were visiting Big Cat sanctuary on the Sunday, in Smarden. We got to hotel about 1.30 and our room was ready. Nice gentlemen checked us in and took us to our room. Room was quite spacious with plenty of clothes space, tv and tea/coffe making, 2 bottles cold water. Nice bathroom with bath & shower. I had both a bath and a shower and there was plenty of hot water. Bath filled up quickly. Large double bed, very comfy. The only criticism, the room was very dark even with all lights on, so difficult to do hair & make up. Noticed other people have mentioned this too. We were in room 14. It was FA cup so my partner wanted to watch this. We had a couple of drinks while watching, in the pub area. Staff everywhere in hotel were really friendly. We had breakfast the following morning. A very extensive breakfast menu. Can help yourself to cereals, juice tec. Served a cook breakfast. We didn't eat any other meal's here, but the food coming out did look nice. When we got back to hotel later in evening (we ate out), the Eurovision was on TV and there was a party atmosphere, with some customer's dressed up in their countries clothes (maybe!). This is a nice pub/hotel and I would definitely stay again. It is a very quaint village and the hotel is also traditional. WIFI was not good though. I couldn't get a reception on my phone either in many places around hotel. Not a problem for me though. I left my boots in the room and had a call while we were at the cat satctuary, so went back later to collect. Thank you.

We booked in for two nights because of it's location. The room was comfortable, clean & came with all amenities you would expect, we had breakfast on both mornings, there was a great menu for cooked breakfast, starting with cereals, fruit juice, fruit & nuts, followed by full English, with toast, tea & coffee. We also ate in restaurant in the evening, varied menu , all well cooked & the service was excellent, the bar was very welcoming, serving local ales. Well worth a visit, only 25 minutes from the coast.
