Stayed here with my wife. Had a lovely stay. We had a spa break, with overnight stay and dinner. Arrived to use the facilities at 10:30, lovely setting and out door pool. Both had treatments which were lovely. Light lunch was delicious. Destination spa was smaller than we thought but nice overall. Rooms were spacious with a comfy bed. Evening meal was lovely, best meal I’ve had in a long time. Overall value for money in a lovely setting. We’ll definitely be back.

We were really looking forward to our first adventure out after lockdown but unfortunately whilst we couldn’t fault the idyllic setting, outstanding food and excellent service, there were too many other things that let this hotel down. 1 - The key card for the rooms didn’t work on 4 separate occasions on our two day break. Really annoying when we were in one of the bedrooms furthest away from reception and had to keep trekking back there to get new cards issued. The response from reception was “oh this is always happening”! Well then please fix it! 2 - Really do not understand why we couldn’t register our debit/credit card upon arrival. Instead we had to pay for any extras at the time of purchase? Not ideal when you fancy a quick drink after the spa facilities and therefore don’t have your cards with you – no cash accepted although one bar tender tried to tell us it was “cash only”. Odd! 3 - In our room the bath/shower water temperature was barely tepid the first night only to be replaced by non-adjustable scalding water the following morning. Thank goodness we had no children with us or there could have been a very nasty accident. 4 - No bedside lamps which made reading impossible as the main room light was very dim. 5 - Had to eat our evening meals in the Brasserie both nights – all a bit clinical and cafeteria like. Shame as there was a beautiful restaurant which had been used for Sunday lunch but apparently closed for dinner? 6 - First morning’s breakfast at a pre-booked time was part self-service, part order. We had to order fruit juice but after asking for poached eggs on toast, we were told to make our own toast – no time given so we were either going to get cold toast waiting for the eggs to be served or cold eggs while we made toast. Very odd set up – especially when we waited over 45 minutes for our eggs! Totally unacceptable especially when other guests appeared after us and were served very quickly. Needless to say we didn’t bother to order anything the following morning. 7 - Swimming pool and sauna was lovely apart from squealing children with water pistols allowed in the pool. So much for relaxation! Perhaps it would be an idea to have set times for families with children? All in all, such a shame but with a few tweaks, we are sure all of the gripes could be rectified. Top marks to the chef(s) – the food was excellent and plentiful. Service both nights for dinner was also exceptional so credit where credit is due.

Superb dinner - 3 course dinner with all four of us having excellent food all served by superb team with engagement and fun, felt extremely safe and will return again as soon as we can. Well Done Ardencote. The cocktails were great in the garden as was the afternoon tea.

At last, released to stay in an hotel again, for the first time this year! Meeting friends here for a two night break, we found good value, great service and excellent facilities. Starting off with a round of golf on their relatively newly created course, the golf shop was organised and welcoming: there are two challenging holes over water! Evening dinner was three courses from an adequate menu, (no vegetarian menus specified), and my Sea Bass fillet was excellent. Front of house staff were pro-active, efficient and pleasant - in particular Andrew who is an absolute asset to the team. After a very comfortable night in a double aspect room overlooking the first tee and eighteenth green, breakfast was very pleasant, and we were served by Andrew, and Monica, who had also helped my wife with her room key which was failing to operate after her return from the swimming pool. The pool area was spotlessly clean, and is enhanced with sauna, steam and jacuzzi facilities. The Spa desk was unmanned early in the morning, which seemed strange, given the need to pre book usage. Dinner on the second evening was equally good, but the menu does not change so after more than two nights you may want to break out elsewhere? Monica was a credit to the hotel in her pleasant and enthusiastic approach approach to her work. The one frustration of our stay was that room keys did not work on six occasions, causing us to return to reception, which was not manned 24 hours, and therefore causing trouble to other staff, especially on our second morning when the breakfast team were overstretched and clearly under staffed - a problem that is currently becoming universally evident across all hospitality venues.
