This is probably the worst ‘four star’ hotel we have stayed in. Nothing particularly wrong, but it just didn’t ‘flow’. Very strange check-in, the receptionist spoke too quickly and didn’t really explain anything. Good facilities, but not used to their full advantage. Dinner ok and breakfast avarage. Overall good, but could be so much better with a bit more thought and attention.

Just returned from another wonderfully chilled break at Ardencote. This time for a Spa break with a friend although previously been with hubby and hubby & kids. Short & sweet but always relax from the moment I drive into the beautiful grounds. Comfortable rooms, lovely spa, good food and friendly welcoming staff. Perfect break!

Ok let me start off with the positives, fabulously spacious top floor room overlooking the golf course and lake, a beautiful setting with well looked after grounds which happen to be a golf course so expected. The drive from the main road to the large old Manor House is very impressive, so our expectations were high. However prior to arrival we decided to try to reserve a table for evening dinner to be told there were no available tables! Also what we weren’t told was that there were at least two weddings going on that day, perhaps wouldn’t have made any difference but nice to know perhaps? So upon arrival when we asked the lady in the restaurant and after a chat with other we were told they could fit us in, we asked for a copy of the menu which we then went off to read, ok not a great menu, plan B we went down the road at 7pm to the Red Lion where we had a candlelight dinner for two with a huge varied menu, the restaurant at this hotel is a large conservatory type building which doesn’t provide the same intimate dinning experience we enjoy, although it was ok for breakfast which I will commend was great, BUT whilst in the bar in the evening the staff started to prepare said area for the next mornings breakfast, which included lots of small cereal boxes, and an open bowl of Frosties, which upon arrival at breakfast in the morning were still open, maybe I missed the covering over and uncovering, but I didn’t indulge in these for breakfast. The Spa, was ok, a bit dated perhaps, the Steam room needs to have the menthol added as it ponged of old sweat, it wasn’t the heat I couldn’t stand in there for two long, added to this the hot tub switch wasn’t working so it didn’t have the jacuzzi working, I think the guy was starting to fix it whilst we were leaving, All in a very nice room, a very good breakfast, but it’s a dated place that needs a renovation in certain areas, the pool and spa and perhaps a more intimate dining experience and lounge, not a Golfers bar meal and wedding venue experience only.

Our second visit bringing along the family for two nights. Staff friendly, rooms clean and air con very effective. Buffet breakfast and evening meal was fine and the service was prompt. As our rooms overlooked the golf course we were treated to some free entertainment watching grown people trying, and mostly not succeeding, in coaxing a small ball into a small hole. The extensive grounds are very well maintained and great for a stroll though be aware, they are defended by the Territorial Duck Battalion. In addition to the facilities including squash and tennis courts, Spa, indoor pool and gym given the good weather we booked the outdoor pool, £25 each may seem pricey but there is plenty on offer, sauna, steam room, hot tub, we enjoyed our time around the pool. We ended our days with a cocktail or two on bar veranda.

Hotel nice, rooms comfortable, breakfast nice, light lunch nice, evening meal dreadful (cold, overcooked and bland) Staff ok (reception and spar staff nice) a few were a tad rude no please or thank you! In the Dinning room and coffee bar. Spar facilities really good lots to do, massage nice and facial nice. Would we stay there again yes.

What is it about hotels that have golf courses? Dreadful food offering. Not a 4 star hotel dining experience. A menu dominated with burger type offerings and spices. The potato wedges are better from MacDonald’s! Room ok but limescale stains Oun the toilet bowl.

Beautiful hotel and spa with a stunning golf course. Food was amazing staff were so approachable. Rooms were clean and house cleaning staff were so friendly. We met jane housekeeping manager and nothing was too much to ask. Pool inside and outside was clean with plenty of beds. Gym was clean and practical. Grounds were well maintained for evening strolls. Highly recommended will definitely be visiting again.

Arrived today 29th August. To celebrate our 35th wedding anniversary. The first thing that made us question if this was really a 4 Star Hotel, We we’re told that you are not allowed to charge anything to your room. We accepted that . I have brought a bottle of champagne to drink in our room before going down to our evening meal. I ask for an ice bucket and two champagne flutes to drink one of our presents and we was told no you can’t drink your own alcohol every in your room. They would not let us have an ice bucked. How to ruin a celebration. Well done Ardencote.

The menu is small , so the options are limited , the main dinning area wasn't available so breakfast and dinner was serve in a smaller place , the options were rather poor ( we been a few time in the past ) the service was great .room are fine but not really as clean as you will spect in a 4 star hotel , more like a 3 .

Stopped here about month ago for spa break and overnight stay . Booked a supposedly 4 stars stay but should have read reviews first . Went into Hotel reception and so depressing decor very dated and shabby for such lovely old building . Not the best Customer service care on arriving looked like they really could not be bothered as had backs to reception not good idea . Then walked down gloomy corridor to equally gloomy bedroom so depressing Room dark and very basic and old fashioned even travel lodge would be better . Lounge area was like and old peoples home Lunch very basic must have been child’s portion but evening meal was nice. Brasserie also very dated and seemed to be shared with every Tom Dick and Harry and all Golfers Which made me feel uncomfortable when in dressing gown and swim costume . Breakfast was fair but basic set up like an after thought . Spa however was very good and ladies who did treatments were great so hotel ruined it and will definitely not be going back again and won’t recommend either . Needs complete overhaul and money spent on it as customers expect more . Reception staff need to go on training on how to treat guests Too as on leaving not one mention of did you have nice stay which would have been nice touch . I would only give it 2 stars .
