Quite a few years ago, I decided to stay here, not in Fort William, as I needed something central to there and Castle Tioram and Glenfinnan and the McDonald clan (a good friend here in the States was directly descended from them. A travel agent here in Atlanta told me about it. She said you would be amazed at the people who own it (the McDonalds?), the food and the location. I was indeed. Not only that, but the lady I spoke with at the desk pointed me to a beautiful ancient church/graveyard up the road a bit, and even told me how to get the key. Well, long story short. I am now planning another trip to Scotland, truly one of the most beautiful nations in the world, and I was overjoyed to see that the Lodge still exists this morning and you can bet I will be staying there. I am sure it is good now as it was then - none better in all Scotland!

We had dinner here recently during a week long stay nearby. The staff were very friendly and offered advice on some local walks we could do. The food was excellent and atmosphere was relaxed. Would definitely visit again.

What can I say but Fantastic, great food, great portions, great host and a great location. Everyone cleared their plates, the fish and chips were wonderful with the fish being so fresh. The Indian Curry was full of meat, the chilli lasagne was thoroughly enjoyed, the lambs liver was lovely and tender and the pork was melt in the mouth. A perfect evening was had by all.

This hotel is just beautiful and the innkeepers, Suzanne and Ian, are the nicest and most accommodating hosts I encountered during a 10day stay in Scotland. The food both dinner and breakfast was very good and in such a relaxing atmosphere. Highly recommend this hotel!

Driving further North we decided to take a short detour on our journey and stop for a meal on the way, having always enjoyed delicious food here. As we expected to arrive before the advertised meal times, and knowing the hotel was nearly always fully booked, we took the trouble to call ahead and ask if it was possible to reserve a table. Pleased to say this was met with the usual, cheerful, friendly response of ‘yes, no problem’. Arrived about half an hour early and enjoyed a pleasant drink chatting to the owner and a couple of resident guests before sitting down to a plate of the chefs home made steak pie.....one word for it....superb! (Just don’t ask to compliment the chef personally as you’ll never get away!). My wife had the scampi (home made batter) and apparently it’s the best she’s ever tasted! Just a shame we weren’t able to stay for breakfast......but we’ll be back! Thanks again!
