Firstly the staff were friendly and helpful. The gardens are amazing. Our room had no view and was tired but had plenty of space. The food was nice. My main gripe is the price of the drinks. You expect to pay over and above in hotels but this was way over the top

We stayed here 25+ years ago and thought it was beautiful. So on a recent trip to Scotland I thought it would be nice to stopover en route. I’d advised the hotel that it was our anniversary and indeed 27yrs since we visited the hotel. We arrived at the tired and dull looking reception and were duly given our key to Room 11. Warning do not accept this room!! It overlooks a concrete roof with no other view but that. The windows were rotten and black with damp and mould. They did not close properly and certainly wouldn’t lock - there was a gap around allowing the very fresh outside air in. I complained and we were shown other rooms which at least had decent windows but no views. We did move and the staff were very helpful to assist in conditions which were not their fault. The views to the lake are stunning and I’m sure those rooms may be very nice but paying £200 / night I thought we would get a decent room with some view but it was not to be! The whole hotel looks very worn and there has clearly been little refurbishment during the 27yrs since our last visit. There was no mention of our anniversary or return visit despite having reminded them upon check in which lacked a little guest attention but generally the staff were very pleasant. It is a hotel that has a stunning position and garden that needs some TLC but until then should not be charging such high rates for sub standard rooms.

Booked a three night stay in a deluxe king room with dinner, bed and breakfast. The room was excellent with a small balcony and a lake view. The food and service in the restaurant was excellent and could not be faulted. Would definitely stay again. Pooley bridge is a nice place to visit just down the road.

Just back from a 4-day trip to the Lakes. Stayed at Leeming House up alongside Ullswater. Have stayed at this hotel over the last 16+ years and have always enjoyed our stay. This time was no exception, it was actually better than I can remember on other trips. With a new GM and a new Chef, it seems to have reinvented itself as our most favourite place to stay. The staff, the rooms, the food and of course the view. Peaceful and relaxing just what you need. Covid19 processes ensured our stay as safe as possible. Will definitely be booking another trip soon. Many thanks Daniella and team

We booked this short break as our honeymoon abroad had been cancelled. We asked about an upgrade of room which was taken at a further £80 for 2 nights. When we walked into the room we couldn’t believe what we saw, live black mould around the bath, ripped curtains and generally scruffy. My wife was so upset we contacted reception who to be fair were apologetic and moved us too another room. This room looked better however we had to again speak to the general manager about the cleanliness which was extremely poor. I often read these reviews and think to myself what are people complaining about, however this was horrendous and not as hat you would expect in a pandemic and when paying £600 for 2 night. Needless to say we are preparing an official complaint about the cleanliness and the dismissive attitude of the duty manager, whose response was to take a couple of bottles of cheap wine off our bill. Please read if you value your overall health and well being. Cleanliness aside the food was really good and staff excellent.
