Stopped on toute from Whitby to Driffield for lunch. What wonderful home cooked food. Fantastic varied menu at reasonable prices. Had the fresh Crab, rest of group had wonderful rare local beef salad. Great beer and friendly staff. Highly recommended.

It turns out that Jet is not the only "gem" to be found around Whitby, The Wheatsheaf at Egton easily fits that description. We booked a weekend stay at close-by Ruswarp and had booked a table for four based purely on location and earlier reviews. To say we were not disappointed is an understatement. We had a warm welcome the... More

We had our last meal at the end of a wonderful week-long motorcycling trip to Northumberland and southern Scotland with our French friends at the Wheatsheaf. The family run pub (with proper restaurant) provided us with super meals that everyone enjoyed. It should have been a (little) sad to be finishing our holiday, but it was great fun! Thanks to... Went here with the family for Sunday lunch, and thoroughly enjoyed our meal. Have to admit I was a bit taken aback that there weren't any starters, just straight in to the roast, BUT - very glad there weren't, as I wouldn't have enjoyed the main course so much. The beef was cooked to perfection, accompanied by very tasty Yorkshire... More

The food here was really excellent gastro pub fare. An interesting menu and everything we had was delicious. The ice creams at the end, despite the fact we were quite full, were to die for - we had Amaretti and Bakewell tart (it tasted exactly as it should to resemble said tart). The Beef in Mulled Wine pie was full... More

This place is simply wonderful. I have read some reviews criticising the landlord's curmudgeonly demeanour. My view is that if you can't put up with it then go somewhere else. The loss will be entirely yours. His wife cooks the most wonderful food from local ingredients and form their own garden while he runs a a very efficient pub and... More

We called at the Wheatsheaf for a snack and as there were no snacks available were persuaded by one of the staff to try Sunday lunch. We agreed to try a child's portion and were amazed at the amount of food we were given. It was the best Sunday lunch ever and the portions were enough to satisfy any adult. The staff... More

2 real ales Very nice menu and specials board The food we had was lovely, nicely presented and a good sized portion, the puds were excellent and the idea of having three small ones rather than just one large one, inspired, the bill was also reasonable All staff were polite, friendly, attentive and helpful We didn’t notice any fruit machines,... Warm welcome from the proprietor and sat right next to a roaring log fire. During our stay other customers including a large family booking were also greeted warmly. We had a lovely pint of black sheep and a fantastic lunch. Steak and kidney pie, belly pork and a burger were much more refined than your average pub grub. Desert offered... More
