A charming, unpretentious, traditonal pub with excellent - spacious - rooms, comfy beds, well-kept ale, a good wine list, superb food and, most important of all, friendly staff. Many thanks to Jo (behind the bar) and Brian (behind the stove) for a lovely weekend. We'll be back with the dog - yes they are dog-friendly too - for another visit...

Stopped on the way from Scotland to Bournemouth as it is easily reached from the A1 but far away from it to feel we were still on holiday. Situated in a quiet village surrounded by farmland, it was very peaceful. Very impressed with our room. Room 1 was warm and cosy with lovely décor and a very comfy bed. Our...

We stayed for one night in September on our way from the south coast to Scotland to break the journey and get away from the A1. The welcome was very friendly and we were soon in our room which was traditionally decorated, clean & comfortable. The bed was comfortable and we had a great nights sleep. We ate dinner in...

Stopped over for one night on our way up to family in Newcastle. Stayed in the suite. Lovely large comfortable bed. Good to have the small sitting area. Delicious dinner, which may well be traditional pub food, but the quality was top notch and beautifully cooked! Delicious breakfast and not a speck of fat on the plate of a full...

You know this inn is dog friendly when you are met by a large black labrador. There is a sigh stating " all guests are vetted by the labrador ". We only popped in for dinner. The place does not give you a feeling of ambience and it looks a bit run down. But oh the food it is excellent...

Firstly I should say it was fine, nothing bad about it. The owner and staff were very welcoming and it is a very dog friendly establishment. The ale was very good. The food though was a little disappointing with the mussels starter and belly pork main in particular a little over over cooked. The sea bass was dry although it...

Stayed here for one night whilst travelling for work. Lovely pub, friendly owner, fab food and drink and a quality nights sleep! Ozzy the lab is adorable and I was made to feel welcome by the regulars having their evening drinks in the bar. The breakfast had a good choice and nice to see a decent amount of black pudding...
