The rooms are nice and big but a little tired. They were clean and very warm. Very dog friendly. The food was brilliant stayed two nights, good wine menu. Nice atmosphere.

We love this pub in the vale of York - ideal for Castle Howard , York, Helmsley , rievaulx abbey- a real gem of a place .

stayed one night staff very helpful, evening meal good, and breakfast good enjoyed the local black pudding, we stayed in room 1 could do with a makeover but on the whole an excellent nights stay will definitely be returning

There is a local bus service number 194 which picks up outside the hotel and will take you to Malton where you can pick up a train to York. But on your return the last bus back to Hovingham leaves Malton at 6pm.
Alternatively you could drive to the outskirts of York and use the park and ride the best one from here being the one situated at Monks Cross, I think the last bus back is around 8pm.
