Detailed Reviews
The people there are like a family, very helpful staff!
Amazing view for which you pay just so little...
Gozo island is very beautiful and worth to visit. If you wanna meat nice friendly people from all over the world, you have to be at this hostel.
It is a bit spooky if you are on your own, since the hostel is magnificently big, it used to be a church before so the walls are like in the castle and not too much light in the evening. However, if you wish to have an unforgettable experience, this is a place to stay. It is very safe there.
Only one disadvantage- no air condition in the rooms so it gets very hot but there are fans everywhere.

Stayed there in the beginning of April, i.e. not yet the very hight of the tourist season. Ghajnsielem & Mgarr were so quiet, no nightlife and just one restaurant open after 7 pm. The hostel was also quite empty (i imagine in summer the place gets much busier).
St.Joseph Home has a unique atmosphere. Beautiful front house garden with plants, spacious ground floor with live songbirds and fish, and a mini altar for St.Joseph. A spacious diding room. There is also a game room and a computer with internet and two bikes for hire. The staff were nice and helpful. I liked the idea that Father George, the owner, did not charge any booking fees, he just kept a room till my arrival because, accoriding to him, he trusts his visitors.
Regarding the previous comments about locks, showers and heaters, i can update with the following: heat was no longer a problem, there was a heater in my room which i could switch off and on as i wanted. The lock in my single room was still absent. The shower was warm, provided that you press the boiler button and heat the water up some time before you have shower.
To conclude, i would say that there certainly is something very nice about the athmosphere of the place, and location is not bad too (close to the main port of Gozo and within 5km distance from the Gozitan capital Victoria - you can easily walk the distance between towns if you are unlucky to get the bus). And the staff's trust in people is appealing. However, i would still much prefer if they put the locks in rooms, just in case. As a solo female traveller i would have felt much more secure with a lock in my door. Otherwise, i recommend this place for people who look for homely, 'local experience' accommodation. I would come back.

My visit in this hostel was terrible. In the beginning the lady told us, that she didn´t have a room we booked on line (4 beds, shared) otherwise we have to pay extra, so we stayed in 8 beds room. In every room there were crosses with Jesus, huge pictures with saints... really creepy, like from some horror movie.. In the morning we got a poor breakfast and we were glad we made it through the night.

Stayed in May 2013 for one night only. It was super worth it as my plan was to have an overnight stay in Gozo due to an annual event called "Notte Gozitana" and this place was perfect.
The hostel is about 8/10 minutes walking distance from the ferry and just 1 minute away from bus stops going either direction. The location is on the outskirts of Ghajnsielem which means you can enjoy fresh air and great views as well of the countryside. Ideal for the warmer months. The building itself is interesting in itself, it is similar to a big farmhouse with authentic religious and everyday furniture and items. I compared it to a museum as some items must have been old and/or of a rare design. You can also use the kitchen, games room and laundry.
Our room was quite a task to get to required going trough the whole house and up some stairs but we didn't complain as we where only going to be there for the night. It was situated just in front of an open bathroom. This could be good and bad as the bathroom has no door, just a small 1 meter wall with a row of sinks and bathroom/shower stalls. Good because you don't have to walk far to shower or use the bathroom, bad because if you open your door, the first thing you see would be someone facing you washing his hands in the sink....or even worse...hearing someone use the bathroom in the dead silence of night. Still this wasn't a problem for us. What was a problem was the lack of soap or liquid dispenser which forced me to use my own wet wipes.
Regarding the inside of our room, it was quite spacious with 4 single beds for three of us. Clean sheets were provided which was a godsend really as I had a bad image of hostels until this experience. At night we had a small light bulb which was sufficient for sleeping with a tiny bit of light which wasn't too bright to keep you awake but at the same time to see where you're going. Something which was out of their control was the wind causing some cluttering on the outside which can be quite spooky at times. I also wasn't to fond of the baby birds/ducks in a nearby pond making the strangest cries in the world during the whole night. But again...these where all out of the staff's hand so no problems there.
Something which we thought would be a problem would be finding our way around at night but from the hostel door to our room, it was all lit up so no problems there either.
Conclusion, very enjoyable and they will be seeing us and more again and maybe for a longer stay. Last thing, the lady who explained everything was very helpful and kind...true Gozitan hospitality.

I've stayed in this hostel only for one night and all I can say It's a good value for money. The rooms are very clean and comfortable. The Staff is very polite and helpful too.Be it a hostel it caters very well for every type of person, at night it might be creepy still I would choose it over any other hostel! To compliment the whole package, the view is magnificent! Prepare yourself to find crucifixes and pictures of saints, still I would recommend it to anyone. Already booked another stay!!!!!!!!!!!

What a wonderful village and a fantastic if somewhat creepy hostel. Such a shame it's closing. It is very Catholic. I had a single room which had just a bed, no curtains and an ancient fan. It was surprisingly quiet considering there was a giant party going on in the village.
The staff were wonderful and very helpful. I really enjoyed my stay. The village is incredible and the festa rocked.

This is a place to relax and chill out. Yes its huge and some might find all the catholic paraphernalia a bit spooky but this is one of the best hostels I have ever stayed in. The staff are very hospitable and helpful. Its clean and the dorms are massive so that you will never be congested or cramped for space. The bathrooms are decent. The balcony is probably the best bit with a wonderful view of the sea and the island of Malta. Couldn't ask for more at this price.
