We are just back from our stay at the Pelangi Beach Resort at Langkawi and I have to say it was one the best resorts we have stayed in! You wont find more beautiful and picturesque places to stay in - and that too without burning a hole in your pocket. Yes it is a bit on the pricier side..but when you go there it immediately seems worth it.. It is spread over a massive area (seems like an island in itself!) with multiple chalets - some sea facing, some garden facing and some lake front. But inspite of the massive area, it is impeccably maintained with lovely greenery and flowers. and because of the huge area, they have buggys to transport you to and from your rooms. The staff is also extremely hospitable and will greet you with a smile everytime. The food was also very very good - right from the spread at breakfast (for which, by the way, you have a choice of 2 restaurants - the Spice Market and the Pelangi Grill - the latter is a bit more of American breakfast) to the lunch and dinner served at their restaurants. There was only 1 small issue - the AC in our room was not cooling properly - but that would be because we were staying on the 1st floor of a chalet which has a high roof and the rooms themselves are quite big. Secondly the temperatures were touching 40 degrees celcius. They had staff sent immediately to rectify things but it wasnt working. So they shifted us to another room on the ground floor, where things were fine. Another advantage of this resort is that there are many local restaurants and local shops closeby to spend a couple of evenings exploring. So if you are planning to visit Langkawi, you can choose this resort with your eyes closed. You and your family will just love it.

The hotel is on a big complex by the beach and within walking distance (although tough in the heat) to shops & restaurants. I wouldnt say it was a 5 star hotel more a 3/4 star at the most. The rooms/grounds are spacious but definitely looking alittle tired & could do with sprucing up. Room service was hit & miss but after complaining (not cleaned to a good standard & replacing shower gels, towels etc) they were exceptional after this point. We had a late flight & they arranged for us to have the room until 6pm which was welcomed. Plenty of bottled water provided in the rooms on a daily basis. The room was nice with a sea view (see pictures) water in sink/shower/toiket is not clear (yellowish colour) which is normal apparently. The mail pool is green colour (due to tiles) so this definitely needs updating, so head for the cascade pool instead which is lovely with a pool bar. Better food choice for vegetarians at breakfast would be welcomed, the cascade pool menu etc would also welcome move vegetarian choices (so would the other menus within the conply) - I didn't always want to get a taxi upto the restaurants. Definitely get the 'Grab' app - UBER equivalent & its all so cheap (<£1 for a lift upto the mail areas and c£5 to the sky bridge (no need for a tour). Jet ski's on the mail beach up from hotel which is great. Great Thai restaurant opposite next doors hotel - Casa Del Mar (so cheap & tasty). Overall, personally I wished I had gone with my other choice of hotel however it was good, served its purpose & wasnt that bad.

I had a great time at the Pelangi Resort. Good points 1. Spacious and comfortable rooms 2. Good value for money 3. Beautiful and well kept surroundings. 4. Friendly and helpful staff. 5. Very good breakfast buffet Drawbacks 1. Of the two dining venues one is dry…. Which may suit some but wasn’t for me 2.Food at lunch and dinner in the remaining venue was very uninspiring. The menu was the same every day and the same at lunch and dinner also. I did not like much of what I are and even I can get bored of Chicken Caesar Salad day in and day out

Dear B4847VWandrewr, Thank you for your kind review. We are glad you enjoyed the resort and its facilities. Your comments with regards to the culinary offerings at the restaurants are duly noted and have been shared with our team to further improve. The Spice Market focuses on Asian cuisine particularly that along the spice route as well as local delicacies. The restaurant is halal certified therefore no alcohol is served, alternatively you may also dine at the Pelangi Lounge and explore the same menu whilst enjoying a beverage of your choice. The second outlet is our latest beach front restaurant - the Pelangi Grill which offers Asian contemporary cuisine with Latin flavours. The unparalleled seaview offers the best sun set seats by the beach. Our associates are always at hand to assist with dietary requirements and special requests. We hope you will be back to explore more of our dining options which are continuously explored and improved with all feedback received as well as enjoy another memorable holiday at the Pelangi. With kind regards, Neoh Kean Boon, General Manager

The Pelangi is a sprawling resort set on a wide and long beach. it is made up as a village, wooden cottages with ground and upper floors clustered together and separated by lanes. There is a very convenient internal shuttle service with electric mini cars that takes you from one side to the other of the resort, for instance to the fitness centre wich is located right at the tip of the beach. We enjoyed a club accommodatiom that carries a number of privileges like a private space where you can enjoy drinks all thru the day and evening cocktails. The rooms are very large, with a very comfortable bed, a couch and chairs, a fridge, a safe, coffee facilities. Each room has a large outside deck with a table ,,two chais and a stall where to hang your washing to dry. Bathroom is very large with a tub and a walk in shower, toiletries and slippers. We did not use the swimming pool but it looked great and crowded..Food quite good, as malaysian food usually is, though a bit boring as we stayed 6 days and the menu was always the same. You can reach town if you like walking along the beach to enjoy some shopping and to try some restaurants..

The Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa, Langkawi is simply not a 5-star resort and you will definitely not receive a 5-star experience. Those customers giving 5-star reviews are clearly not experienced travellers or have never stayed in a true 5-star accommodation before. Here are some of the issues; - The food served at Pelangi Beach Resort & Spa is very basic, tasteless, and uninspiring. - Internet is extremely slow making it impossible to stream or download anything. - Tiles at the ‘Cascade Pool’ are extremely slippery and dangerous. Also, there are insufficient sunbeds for the number of guests that are staying at the resort. - Don’t bother paying extra for a beachfront room, unless you're happy with your outlook being huge ugly sandbags. - Bar fridge in the room is very small and would not get cold. - Air conditioning stopped working and it took them hours to fix it. - Staff is not friendly and when I complained about our experience, management couldn’t care less. - My partner was sick and not able to make it to breakfast, so I was taking a croissant with me so that they could have something to eat and was stopped by staff who said I was not allowed to take the croissant, it was a resort management rule, which I found to be unbelievable and ridiculous. Overall, it was such an unpleasant experience and location that we spent most of our time away from the resort. This resort (using the word resort very lightly) is extremely pricey for what you are getting. The online pictures in my opinion are deceiving. I guess the best way to sum it up, is I wish I had not stayed here, I would never recommend this place, and I would never return to this so-called resort!

Dear OzTravelGuy, We are concerned to hear of the shortcomings experienced during your stay. Your feedback with regards to the food & beverage offerings have been shared with our team as points of improvement. The newly renovated Cascade Pool has water proofed tiles, however caution must be adhered such as not to run when the floor is wet etc... as safety measures. Our team is constantly monitoring the facilities. The Island Terrace offers unparalleled views of the Rebak Islands as well as the best sunset view from the verandah. The geo tube is necessary caution to prevent erosion which is being looked into to by the local authorities. The minibar in the rooms is only to chill therefore when too many items placed inside it would not be as cool. Although we do not permit food to be taken away from the buffet by guests, we do offer to send food to the rooms especially for situations as mentioned above. Please be assured that our guests remain our top priority and we are at hand to ensure we provide the best hospitality. In this instance, we will work on communicating better. We hope you will give us another opportunity to welcome you back to a further improved holiday experience in the future. With kind regards, Neoh Kean Boon, General Manager

We stayed at the Pelangi Beach Resort and Spa on Langkawi Island for 5-nights in late-Feb ($274 Can; R936/night). The Pelangi is a destination resort – huge and expansive, but as suited to those who never want to leave the property as it was to those looking for a comfortable base to explore the area. It sprawls along a large swath at the north end of Cenang Beach, its more than 300 rooms in 2-floor timber-framed buildings clustering along the white sand beach and around the 2-pools, 2-lakes, and throughout the green spaces. And despite its destination resort vibe, it is a short walk to the restaurants, convenience stores and tourist shops in town. Our lakefront villa on the 2nd floor of a 12-room building was large, modern and well maintained. It had a bedroom area with a king bed and side tables, table with couch and chair, a small alcove with the mini-refrigerator and kettle, and a large TV. It opened onto a large deck (table and chairs) overlooking the lake, actually a pond with a double aerator fountain, shallow but with a healthy fish population and 2 huge (2+ m long) Asian water monitors for entertainment. The bathroom was also large, with a bathtub (window onto the pond) and walk-in shower and plenty of vanity space. Curiously, the bathroom also had the clothes and suitcase storage area and safe. Breakfast was in 2 restaurants, one by the lobby, the other at the beach. We chose the latter, which had an egg station, sausages, a large selection of Malaysian dishes, fresh fruit, freshly squeezed juices, pastries, even champagne for mimosas – among the best breakfasts on our trip. Otherwise, we didn't dine at the resort; the prices, quality and selection at the restaurants a short 10 min walk away in town was just too good. The resort's pools were large and generally well maintained, one intended for families with children, the other more adult oriented. Both had bar service (press a button), and plenty of loungers (although there was reserving with towels). The staff were standouts – always a smile, and no request was a problem or inconvenience. The only negative was the check-in process. The guest turn-over on our arrival day required us to wait over two hours for our room, something that should be better anticipated and addressed. Otherwise, if you don't mind a large resort vibe, the Pelangi is a good selection.

On 01.02.2024 we arrived at Meritus Pelangi Beach Resort and handed over our passports and a voucher confirming that we have booked and paid for a room with beach view. We were asked to sit and wait for check in. 1½ hour later a member of the staff came with our passports and room cards, but for a room with garden view and next to the children’s playground. Of course, we objected referring to our voucher, but the staff neglected this. We were informed that our only choice was to pay MYR 2.400 if we wanted our room. No explanation on how this amount was calculated. Further we could not get an invoice. We are sad to add that the attitude from the staff was very arrogant and rude and not at least customer friendly. We contacted our Danish travel agent who was very helpful, but even he could not get any explanation of why the staff and management would not accept our voucher. In order for us to get the room, he offered to pay the amount, but this was refused by management without any explanation. After another 1½ hour, we paid the MYR 2.400 and got room cards to the room we had originally paid for. We asked for an invoice in order to get refund from our Danish agent but again this was refused – the same for a receipt of the amount. Because of this, we can only warn future guest that even if they have proof of reservation/payment this might not be accepted by staff and management. We can add that staff at restaurants and bars were helpful and very service minded

Dear BrittaLarsen, Thank you for taking the time to provide us with your feedback. We want to address the concerns you raised regarding your booking. Initially, the booking received from the agent was for a Garden Terrace room category, contrary to the Island View room category as indicated. However, this discrepancy was promptly rectified by the agent. In order to accommodate the upgrade to the Island View room category, there was a difference in rates incurred. Regrettably, the agent handling the booking was not affiliated with the resort and utilized a third-party site, resulting in the additional payment being charged to you for the Island View upgrade. We have duly noted your comments regarding the check-in experience and have shared them with our team as areas for improvement. Please rest assured that we are committed to ensuring that your stay with us is memorable, and we understand that this situation with the booking platform has been unfortunate. We sincerely hope that this incident does not permanently impact your opinion of our resort, and we would be honored to have the opportunity to welcome you back for a truly memorable stay in the near future. Should you require any assistance with future reservations, please do not hesitate to contact us directly. With kind regards, Neoh Kean Boon, General Manager

Our family of 5 had a lovely 3n/4d stay at Pelangi Beach Resort. Though we had issues with our room (given the age of the resort), the excellent service and professionalism of each staff member made up for the inconvenience - shout out to Manager Chong who exercised discretion in handling and resolving the hiccups. Food was good that one really don't have to go into town in search for more, and, F&B staff were some of the friendliest we have met in the industry. For the most part, we stayed within the Resort to chill and enjoy the ambience and warm hospitality, hence, a great experience. Will definitely plan another stay at Pelangi.

Prompt check in despite it being busy. Nice to have bottled water in room but please can there be water refill stations, it feels so awful to have so much plastic when everyone carries a water bottle of some form. Room was large and once we sorted Aircon was pleasantly cool. Sadly my husband dropped an item which rolled under bed, when I pulled bed away to find item it was clear there had been no cleaning under bed which was not pleasant. Dirty marks and hairs. That aside the Cascade pool was lovely, always able to get a lounger and table service at poolside was great. Good breakfast with beach views. We ate in for Chinese New Year which was buffet, nicely done and staff worked very hard . Good wifi all round which is big bonus and staff always cheerful. Would we return, yes I think so .
