Travelers' Choice
Laxá Restaurant opened during the Summer of 2014 along with the Hotel, since then our Chef has been creating a menu around Iceland and Mývatn region’s uniqueness, putting an emphasis on regional ingredients and carefully selecting high quality products. Our smoked Arctic Charr is from Skútustaðir just down the road, the fresh Arctic Charr is from Húsavík and our lamb and foal are from North Iceland and Eyjafjörður. Finally all our fresh vegetables are from nearby farm in Hveravellir, grown in geothermally heated greenhouses.

I'm so glad I planned our itinerary for a longer stay here! Gorgeous hotel, well appointed room, wonderful staff. They even offer a discreet door knock if the Aurora is visible....and you had requested notification. The bar area offers great seating and views...as does the dining room.

Hotel's Favorite
Located on the edge of lake myvatn. Lovely hotel . Room was nice and comfortable, and we had a nice view of the lake. Breakfast was buffet style, but had a great choice of food ( including waffle machine). Handy for local geological sites around the myvatn area. They also had midge screens on the windows( not that we needed them luckily). Difficult to find any negative points…

Great hotel. We had a lake view corner room. Super comfy bed, great views. The staff were amazing and we got to see the Aurora. Food and drinks were fantastic. As mentioned the staff were very friendly and made the stay even more enjoyable. Would certainly stay again no issues.

It's a very good hotel, with comfortable, clean, medium-sized rooms and a very good breakfast. They have a Northern Lights wake-up service, which they offer if we wanted, even without asking. It's great because we can rest in our room, we can even sleep, and if the Northern Lights show up we'll be notified by the staff. The fact that it is an isolated hotel, without light pollution and the sky was clear, made it possible to see our first Aurora. Amazing! The price is expensive, as is everything in Iceland.

During our ring road tour with Nordic Visitor, we needed to modify our trip to include 2 nights at this Hotel. What a brilliant decision the tour organizers made. Modern industrial architecture inside and out. Beautiful large dining area, and bar. And a recreational sitting area on the lower floor with a ping-pong table. The rooms were awesome and large, with views to the Lake when it wasn't snowing. One the first night of our stay, part of our tour group came in yelling that the Northern Lights had appeared during a break in the clouds. Thanks to the dark location, we had quite the show and opportunity to take great photos. Also close was the Lake Myvatn Nature Baths. Truly an awesome 2-night stay and we will be back. Oh - and the staff? 5 stars as well.

This was one of my favorite hotels I stayed at. They checked me in early and had room ready. The restaurant was wonderful and seemed to have a changing menu (stayed 1 night). They did a happy hour. Windows were able to be cracked open. This hotel also had darts and ping pong inside for free. This was easy to navigate to and a snow storm with snow+ice covered roads.

We enjoyed our brief stay at this surprisingly large, beautifully appointed hotel. The front desk staff was exceedingly patient and helpful in answering our questions and providing advice. It was fun to poke around the various common areas on the different levels of the hotel. In addition to a fancy hotel restaurant, the hotel has separate, quiet bar area. Our room was exceedingly clean and comfortable. Nice bathroom with great shower. Excellent breakfast buffet (included in room rate) with lots of delicious options (even fruit!), all beautifully presented and regularly replenished. An expensive area to visit (Mývatn attracts a lot of tourists), but this hotel is definite recommend.

Our stay was highlighted by the service provided by the staff. We were lucky enough to catch some nice weather for a possible sighting of the northern lights. The hotel woke us up around midnight as the sky lit up. They also took our picture to remember the occasion. BTW, the food in the restaurant was good also.

We had lunch at the Laxa restaurant. Great service and fabulous food. The cauliflower wings were delicious. Other people enjoyed the fish. Great views of the surrounding area. Highly recommended. We will stay overnight on our next trip. Soon we hope.

Great views of lake Myvatn and nearby volcanos. Sleek modern style, large shower, comfortable bed. The breakfast here was very good with many, many options. We had wished dinner was available later, though it is consistent with Iceland…still we would return and hope we do.
