The George is located in Devon's smallest town, Hatherleigh. The pub is famous for its lively and welcoming atmosphere, and provides great freshly cooked food, drink and effortless service. Soft modern furnishings complement the traditional and historic building features, creating a warm, inviting feel. A pub with pub values offered with style, charisma and personality. Our menu is a mix of great pub classics and modern English dishes, with sharing plates for informal dining and a great range of mains. We take pride in sourcing our produce locally where possible, and are proud of the sensational food we offer. We offer 13 delightful ensuite rooms, some of which have four poster beds and feature baths. One of our rooms is fully accessible for people with disabilities.

My wife and I stayed in this hotel on our latest trip to London to visit family. We couldn’t be happier. Christian the owner and his wife are so lovely and personal. We were loved on and pampered by their warmth and friendliness. The rooms are very sweet. Try to get one of the front facing rooms like room 1, 4, or 5. Room 8 is where we stayed and it gives you complete privacy but is in a loft so not as much headroom. We stayed two nights and explored Devon. Hatherleigh is a wonderful friendly village of around 1600 people. They have one pub which has been around since the 1500 s. Great place to go for happy hour where you can meet the locals. We will stay here again. Cheers Christian .

Thank you for taking the time to post a review and we are so delighted you had a good stay. As you found out all our rooms are different, and all have their own little quirks. The superior rooms (1,3 and 4 on the front as you say) have free standing bath in the centre of the rooms and four poster beds. Room 5 on the front is special too - it is quite large and has a really low window. Thank you for letting us know you felt welcome at he George - we are small enough that we can give that personal service that does make the difference, but even if we aren't around we have a fantastic team who really work hard to make you feel special. As you are staying in Hatherleigh we have prepared a selection of interesting walks for you, your partner and perhaps imaginary dog. Please come to the bar and go through the folder and choose your favourites. \You can of course bring your real dog - we are pooch friendly! We are delighted you will come back - call us and we will make sure you get the kind of room you fancy! Christian & Di

A Hidden Gem My seven pals and I could not have been made more welcome as we travelled cycle route 27 staying the one night. A doorstep welcome by Will and an owners send off at 07.30 - how about that!!!. The rooms were very comfortable and well equipped and nothing seemed a problem. Spacious yet charming blending modern facilities with old warm charm. A must stay if you are in the vicinity and a great place to escape if you were looking for a long weekend or more.

Thank you for taking the time to post a review, and we are delighted that we could ease you all a little on your long ride to Plymouth! We know you were on a charity ride and hope the effort was well rewarded. We are conveniently placed along both the coast to coast rooute and the Lands End to John O'Groats routes and know how important it is to get you in, great hot showers, good food, cold beer, then fed and out promptly in the morning (after an evening doing a little socialising which can be a hard feat too!). We hope to see you all again - Hatherleigh is worth a little visit all by itself. Christian & Di

We were visiting the town and decided to try the lunch menu at the George Hotel. Lovely atmosphere, friendly staff, decent selection of dishes, and the food was very tasty. Happily recommend it to others, and will call again when we're next in the town

We stayed here in 2014 and it was good then. We returned this weekend as it’s a convenient location for my family to meet and I have to say it’s now even better. We chose here to celebrate my fathers surprise birthday gathering. Typical of such parties, some arriving late, not seeing each other in a while and want to chat and catch up. Our dinner reservation time came and went but not once were we hurried or pressured even though it was obvious that the place was busy. A sure sign the place is managed well. • staff, amazing in every way. Attentive, friendly and professional. Front of house manageress deserves a special thank you for her professional and pleasant service. • food, all 10 of us got served promptly and all food was hot, well presented and very tasty. • the bar, well stocked with good selection of beers, real ales and popular spirits. • bedrooms, clean, well presented, cozy and stocked with everything you expect and more. All those (including Guinness, the dog) who run the whole operation, deserve praise for their efforts and we hope to see them all again in the future.

Thank you so much for taking the time to post a review, and we are delighted that you all enjoyed your visit to The George. Thank you too for your praise for the staff, we will certainly pass your comments on to them. We learn from each time we receive a review and this time is no different. You have pointed us in the direction we want to go, satisfying customers, delivering a good service and trying to make it a unique experience whatever the occasion. Yes we were busy, the praise warms and the fact is you were as flexible as we were so everything worked perfectly at the end. Hope to see you again soon! Di, Christian (and Guinness!)
