This is a nice small hotel right on the beach. Our room was simple, clean, and comfortable. The owner and staff are attentive. The restaurant is as good as any other along this stretch of beach. Free beach chairs and umbrellas or you can sit under the shade of trees. The sunset was gorgeous from our tiny balcony. I would definitely stay here again. Kalamaki is convenient for visiting Phaestos and a couple of other Minoan sites. It is a cute small town with some tourist shops, a bakery, and a small grocery. The Kommos beach with the Minoan port is a mile south.
We stayed overnight whilst visiting the various archeological sites in the area and really enjoyed the hospitality and friendliness of the patron who also provides an extensive choice for the buffet breakfast included in the price
Very clean sea front hotel great view and very nice people I recommend this hotel for holidays. All the tavernas and the local bars are very close with out being noisy the place is really good to enjoy your holidays!
Love staying at the Alexander, the location is perfect, couldn't be closer to the beach and the hotel has loungers and umbrellas free for guests. The owners and the staff are really nice, the atmosphere is friendly and relaxing. The breakfast is excellent with lots of choice, and one can order snacks or an evening meal. The hotel is just away from the main hub of resturants and bars, so its nice and quiet.
We have just returned from staying at this hotel during our first trip to Matala Beach Festival. We decided to go to the festival only a few days before the event so this hotel was the nearest (about 3/4k) that we could find. We arrived at the hotel at lunchtime and as our room was not quite ready we were shown an alternative. How lucky were we. The room had a side view of the beautiful sandy beach on which the hotel is located. The room was very clean. Nice linen. Beautiful fluffy towels. Safe. Small fridge. Bottle of water and glasses. Hairdryer. Large double wardrobe. Small balcony. WiFi in the room. Free sun beds and umbrellas on the beach. The staff were very welcoming and helpful. Nothing seemed too much trouble. The price of the room included breakfast consisting of eggs, sausage, cereals, toast, fruit, yoghurt, cheeses, cold meats, cake etc etc selection of teas, coffee and fruit juice. Just what we needed after a very late night at the festival. Kalamaki is a very peaceful resort on a sandy beach. Would I recommend this hotel - yes. Don't expect 5 star accommodation but I would have no hesitation in staying at the hotel again or indeed in recommending it. The only slight critism I could make is that there is no kettle tea/coffee in the room bit it is available downstairs in the restaurant…
