First visit to this hotel and have to say we were very impressed. Rooms were clean and very comfortable, had a room to the rear with excellent views over the river and the sea. Stayed bed & breakfast which was a simple affair but enough to start the day. Restaurant was closed due to the coronavirus but they served snacks during the day. Due to the restrictions George his family and staff kept the hotel and surrounding areas spotlessly clean and George was also very helpful including running off copys of the health visa which is required to get back into Britain. Hotel sits in a great position with the centre of Alykes only a minute or so away, and sitting next to the river a ten to fifteenth minute walk takes you to resort of Alykanas following the river. Hotel caters for everyone including families and is only a step away from the beach area, well worth the visit and we would definitely recommend this hotel.

Rooms could be maintained better. Soap dish attached to shower wall was hanging off wall. Wardrobe handles come off when opening doors. Safe very tempermental would only click open after many many attempts.
Pool amazing. Location excellent. Breakfast typical greek. We paid extra for air con which was needed. our room was situated on the front of the hotel on main road but noise wasnt a problem

Small hotel with everything we needed.
Pros:
Great location, next to river, 50 metres to glorious beach
Excellent swimming pool
Very clean throughout
Masses of storage in room & good shower
Reasonably priced bar
Resort, thoroughly recommend Alykes
Cons: (all minor)
Room felt a little bare, and bed pretty hard. We had a view of the road so that probably didn't help...
Breakfast (probably affected by covid) rather limited
Restaurant closed due to Covid
We would definitely stay there again & strongly recommend it.

You MUST try this hotel and location! Couldn’t recommend this hotel and location more if I tried. Me and my other half had the most fantastic, and most importantly safe holiday at the Ionian Star Hotel. The hotel facilities were fantastic. 100m away from the beach where you can rent sunbeds for €8 all day long with table service. The resort centre itself is also 100m away surrounded by so many amazing restaurants and bars and a mini golf course and shops. We loved every single second of our holiday. My only criticism was that the air condition was €50 on top of what we paid for the holiday but without it, we would’ve been horribly warm all week long. We will definitely be making a trip back to Alykes, there’s so many opportunities for day trips, which, if we would’ve had a longer trip, would have definitely booked. Thank you so much to the hotel for the hospitality we were given throughout our stay. A fantastic break having worked throughout the pandemic.

Had a wonderful holiday at the Ionian Star. The place is immaculately clean and the staff are lovely. We were there for 3 weeks and were lucky to have a sea view room with an amazing view. The room had a large fridge with an icebox, a kettle, teaspoons, mugs and glasses. The shower was fairly powerful (for Greece) and towels/bedding was changed frequently. We were very comfortable in the bed and pleased the room had a netted door which meant we could sleep with the window open. Listening to the waves and didn’t need to get Aircon. Breakfast was the same everyday but good quality and several choices. Cereals, Breads, a toaster, cake, lovely yogurt, peaches, honey, yogurt, boiled eggs, cheese, ham, jam, marmalade. We enjoyed our breakfast. A lovely setting to eat or have a drink. We ate there twice on an evening it was excellent. The pool is lovely, the sun beds are very comfortable and it’s a stones throw from the beach. Lots of lovely restaurants on the door steep. We met some lovely people and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We will be back.

We booked this hotel based on the previous trip advisor reviews, but our experience was nothing like as others had described. The room was modern and clean, but very basic and small. There was nowhere to sit inside the room other than the beds, which were very hard. It was impossible to sit on our balcony between 1pm and 8pm as it was too hot, and no shade. We didn't use any of the facilities in the hotel, as we prefer the beach to sitting at the pool, the pool area did look clean and comfortable. The bar was just a few older people who seemed to sit there every night, no atmosphere, music etc. We did have a drink on our second night, with the intention of sitting for a while, but 14 euros for 2 brandy's and a coke was off putting, and much more expensive than the bars in the resort, there is no price list at the bar, which is highly unusual, and makes you wonder if the prices are just made up depending on the owners mood at the time. We had to vacate the room at midday on the day we were leaving, although we weren't getting picked up until 6pm. No information supplied by the hotel of time to vacate the room. When we asked the owner we were told, it's normally 11am but there is flexibility of an hour. He didn't offer information on a courtesy room, or even paying a few euros to keep our room for a few extra hours. Which meant a day at the beach followed by having to wash and change in his public toilet before our flight. We had to leave our suitcases at reception all day, again as no information provided on where to store them. We got the impression it wasn't worthwhile even approaching the owner to ask, as he seemed very uninterested. Loved Alykes/Alkanas and we'll definitely return, fab location for couples looking for a relaxing holiday, absolutely stunning place, friendly people in the local bars and restaurants, they can't do enough for you, but they aren't in your face or pushy. Just very disappointed with our room and atmosphere in this hotel, the only blip on our holiday which was a shame.

we stayed here 10 days in June quick check in , George took our cases to our room while we had a free welcome drink our room looked onto the road which was not a problem the room was clean with a comfy bed good shower and large fridge with icebox that was good for freezing bottled water to drink by the pool, pool area was spotless with comfy mattresses on sunbeds . we had lunch at pool bar a few times food was good , breakfast was basic but enough to satisfy . we used moby dicks on the beach for lunch most days had a few Greek salads they were good washed down with a few large mythos in frozen glasses tried various restaurants at night best was Paradosiako Taverna the best feta in filo starter i have had and a good house red also had sea bass here a couple of times very good place. if i come back to Alykes i would certainly stay at the Ionian Star again a big thank you to George and his hard working staff especially Karen who has a great sense of humour.

Lovely small and friendly hotel. All staff were welcoming and very attentive, in particular George (the owner who was always about), the lovely lady who showed us to our room on the evening of our arrival and the lovely lady who manned the restaurant at lunchtime. Room was very clean, as was the restaurant, pool and seating areas. Had a fabulous sea view, perfect for watching the beautiful sunrise, sunny in the morning and shady in the afternoon. Views of neighbouring island which we believe to be Kefalonia. Tea/coffee making facilities in room (bring your own teabags or buy locally) and a fridge. Wet room with shower, soap bar, small shampoos, toilet rolls and towels provided. Insect screen across balcony door which was great as had door open all night for refreshing breeze. Loved the cockerel nearby who cockadoodled each morning. Air con available at additional cost but we didn’t need it for our stay. Hairdryer in drawer in room. Room cleaned daily. Comfortable sunbeds, plentiful for the number of guests and availability all day. Pool was compact and water was warm. Particularly liked the shallow areas of the pool at either end with the sunbeds in the water. Continental style breakfast included with toast, cereals, greek yoghurt, cake, boiled eggs, ham, cheese, tinned peaches and apples, tea and orange juice. Had lunch there too, great food, nicely presented and reasonably priced, we had tuna baguette and chips, tuna salad and burger and chips. Friendly bar area which we used for cold drinks during the day and alcoholic ones after returning from dinner out in the evenings. Hotel located right on the beach with two beaches to choose from, one to the left and one over a small bridge to the right. Beautiful sandy beach with clear, aqua blue sea. Ate at Taverna Nostos, located approximately 30 metres from the hotel on the opposite side. Welcoming and friendly service. We enjoyed our meals - we tried cheese pastries and pitta starters, omelette, chicken skewers, mixed grill, chocolate soufflé with pistachio ice cream and green yoghurt and honey. As the hotel is located at one end of the town, it’s possible to walk along the beach to the left and then up onto the main road back through the town. Good selection of restaurants and bars, a few supermarkets and some souvenir shops. Trips are available nearby but we didn’t do any this visit. Clientele was mostly older couples during our stay, all or whom were also chatty and friendly. Will most definitely return!

Had a week at the Ionian Star with family. We had roadside rooms but with the doors shut and aircon on sleep mode there was minimal noise. Aircon was an extra 7e per day which was fine by me. Room was great, a decent size with good bathroom and a fridge too.
Breakfast, as all the other reviews say, is basic, but we were happy with it. Would be good to see some variety from day to day though.
Pool area was really good, no real need to put towels on sunbeds but most people did, there were enough to satisfy everyone.
Very close to a great beach and very clear sea.
Also countless great restaurants close by to the hotel and a few good bars too.
Would definitely go back to Alykes and would stay here again. Staff were very friendly and helpful. I called a few weeks before our holiday to ask for rooms next to each other and they accommodated this for us.

We had a late week here (October) and due to not many guests in the hotel we were allocated a sea view room. These are usually only for private guests in the summer months.
Room was excellent clean and tidy and quite modern. Lovely big balcony with a nice view.
Breakfast was the usual bad cheese ham etc.. You could order a full English at 5E if you wish.
Used the lovely pool a couple of times as we prefer the beach.
Big shout out to George the owner who helped me with the return PLF form no end. Thanks mate for that!
Staying in Alykanas next june as going with family, but will pop and see George and his wonderful staff.
