A bit out of the way but worth the extra travel. This is a lovely quaint hotel... the rooms are not fancy but very homely and comfortable with tasteful art work. Bottle tap water, shortbread and teas and coffees available in the room. The shower room was very clean and well maintained. The breakfast was adequate although the breakfast room... More

Having tried a number of B&B's and Pubs when visiting relatives in the area we have always left feeling disappointed and ripped off. In the Trooper we have found comfortable rooms, excellent food and wonderful staff.

I was tired from an extensive two week road trip. It was my last night "on the road" and an excellent way to end it. Loved my room up at the top - 'Chawton' after Jane Austen's home nearby - and a beautiful bathroom (admired the tiling). When I arrived a very pleasant lady carried my bags up. Dinner was... More

Great place, Very reasonably priced. Menu not extensive, but the food was well presented and full,of flavour. The Sirloin steak was cooked perfectly as requested complimented with a nice salad, chunky chips and beer battered onion rings. I had cheese covered homemade meatballs for a starter "very tasty". The bar has a good selection of Ales and beers. The staff... More

We stayed hear for 3 nights in September 2016. We had a double room at the very top of the property. Although it had everything we needed we were dissappointed that the coffee was a poor instant, there was no shower and the bath tap and plug with a short chain were placed in the centre of the bath which... We stopped here for lunch while travelling back from holiday. We had meat balls and sausage and mash. Both were excellent . We would certainly recommend The Trooper. It was very hot the day we visited so we sat outside which was very pleasant.

Have visited here a number of times previously. Food as usual was excellent and well priced. Stayed for one night, room large, clean and comfortable. Breakfast was excellent as usual. Recommended, good value for money

Came here for the first time in years to be honest. I remembered it being a bit on the expensive side and I suppose the signature dish shoulder of lamb at £19 is not so cheap but it is excellent. Place was quite for a Sunday which was a surprise in fact because the meal was superb. Great Ringwood bitter... More

Although not disabled, we were allocated a quiet rear, downstairs, disabled room which suited us especially as it was during a heatwave and it was heavily shaded by shrubs and cool. There was no view, but that did not worry us. The room was spacious, the beds very comfortable and unusually, we had two ripe nectarines, a knife, and two... More
