We stayed at the resort July 23 and 24. The grounds are wonderful and the rooms are very attractive. The food in the restaurant was great. Many of the staff were helpful and pleasant. Nevertheless, we had some experiences that were not acceptable. Before posting this review, we gave the proprietor the chance to address them, but we received no response. Our biggest problem concerns the day manager, whom we had asked to make a reservation for Wednesday night July 24 for the restaurant Locanda del Cardinale. She told my wife twice and me once she had made the reservation. On Wednesday night, shortly before we left for the restaurant, I asked the reservation time: she replied it was between 8 and 8:30 pm. We got a cab (about a 15 minute trip) but when we got there the restaurant was closed. We wandered around for awhile thinking it might open late, but no, it simply wasn't open. It is our opinion (and it will have to remain an opinion and not a fact because the proprietor failed to respond to us) that she lied about making the reservation, not knowing it wasn't open. We called back to the resort and spoke to someone else who helpfully made us a reservation at another restaurant. The next day was check-out. The same day manager had told us we could check out at 1 pm rather than noon. We went out into Assisi and got back at 12:30. We were told that our luggage had been removed from the room already but if we needed to go to the bathroom, we could. We saw that one of the handles on our luggage had been broken by the staff, who never told us they had broken it. We question why we were kicked out when we were told we could stay (and we are only talking about a half hour in any event); we doubt it was necessary to throw our luggage out of the room because the resort needed the room before 1 pm since it didn't seem very busy and otherwise the day manager wouldn't have told us we could stay until 1 pm. It certainly wasn't necessary to break on the handles on the luggage and then not tell us. We also want to mention the inhouse restaurant service where we ate on July 23. As I mentioned the food was wonderful but the waiter was almost laughingly bad: very sweet but not up to the task, which is surprising since there were only two other tables that night. My wife had asked for a recommendation for the entree, between two choices. At the end of the meal, there was no entree at all but when she asked about it, she got both plates, even though she had asked for only one. We paid without complaint. In all, it was a regrettably negative experience, and unnecessarily so. I regret the proprietor chose not to respond to us. I don't know how others' experience will be but one might be concerned about how we were treated and the failure of the resort to respond to our experience. Perhaps this means it believes our treatment was acceptable. We disagree.

Thank you for a great vacation and the wonderful hospitality. My wife and I greatly enjoyed our time at the resort and will recommend it to our friends. The staff was very friendly and helped us with finding great restaurants and an amazing wine tour (monte vibiano - highly recommended). The spa was modern and clean and we enjoyed a great massage. If you are looking for a romantic getaway - this is the place.

We stayed at the 'Resort e Spa San Crispino'. It is a nice hotel - however, not recommended if you have a nice car and/or do not want to get a very dirty car! The access road is about 2 km real dirt road - especially to be avoided if it has been raining! The hotel is about 5 km from the beautiful town of Assisi - in itself worth a visit.

We have stayed in Villa “Il Reale” part of the hotel complex. The villa is in excellent state, located in the middle of farm lands. It has a large garden with swimming pool. You may be “unlucky” to share the villa with other people as it consists of 3 separate parts, therefore we would recommend to go there in the off-season and you may enjoy total privacy. The most striking aspect of our stay was that right from our bedroom we would enjoy a spectacular view on the illuminated city of Assisi including the Rocca Maggiore and Basilica di San Francesco. The personnel at the Spa (where you will have breakfast) is very friendly and actually knows what the word service means as opposed to many other places we go. Anyway, you will be on your own for lunch and dinner. Supermarkets and restaurants can be found in nearby Bastia Umbria or Santa Maria degli Angeli. In other words, this is a great place and depending if you can afford it, absolutely recommendable for a great Italian holiday.

This is difficult review because we actually became fonder of this hotel as our stay went on. The hotel is very difficult to find so after getting a bit flustered, we arrived. We were greeted very nicely and told that we should unpack and then come straight down for lunch as it was finishing at three and then we would be shown around the resort. There was no help with our bags at all. We went for lunch and then went back to reception to have be shown around as promised and the receptionist seemed to have completely forgotten and seemed a bit bemused as to why we were there so that didn't happen. We settled down at the pool but had to go and seek out towels and had to return to reception to arrange for some water as there really wasn't any staff about, even in the bar. Our room was a reasonable size but it was packed full of furniture to give it a country house feel and it was really dark, having only one window set back in an alcove. And it had a drain kind of smell that they had tried to mask by putting air freshner in the room in a glass flask. And this was a suite, the Sage Room. All the hotel literature was italian, even the spa menu, which was ok for us as we speak some italian but would prove very difficult for a non speaker, especially as English did not seem to be widely spoken. After the first night we had found the lay of the land a bit more and the hotel really grew on us. We liked that it was outside of Assisi so that you could get away from the tourist hub. The swimming pool is fantastic, loads and loads of beds, set in a lovely garden with stunning views of Assisi behind it. The rose gardens were lovely and the estate is very well tended. The house keeping was good and the staff were generally helpful. The hotel was very peaceful and relaxing. We did use the Spa, we booked a treatment through reception. When we got there we were given an entirely different treatment, not sure where the communication had broken down however! We didn't complain, the treatment we had was very nice, a different type of massage from that which we had ordered, so there seemed little point in kicking up as we had enjoyed it. One member of staff whose name we never got but who drove the shuttle to Assisi as well as various other tasks really was fantastic. He recommended restaurants, made sure we could get a cab back to the hotel each evening and tried very hard to give us ideas of where to go. Really couldn't do enough for you. Overall we enjoyed our stay here and were pleased with our choice not to be in Assisi centre. Maybe help with bags, some guidance as to how to book treatments, some translations of treatments offered, guidance as to Spa 'etiquette and rules' and the provision of snacks rather than full meals would've been nice as you are so isolated you can't just nip out. And the removal rather than the masking of the smell would've been good. We did get used to it though and it seemed to be isolated to our room!! We loved Assisi, particularly in the eveings and I would recommend to people who come here to do at least a day and a night as they are very different. We stayed four nights and thoroughly enjoyed it. Good restaurants: Medioevo and Il Pallota, both excellent, Il Pallota probably our favourite.
