We have stayed at Southern Cross on many occasions since our honeymoon there in 1994 and throught out that time it as been a welcoming friendly experience no matter the owners happened to be,the present owners are no exception.A great place to spend a quiet few days. The cream tea's are highly recommended and not to be missed, especially if it's a... Lovely family run business everyone was very welcoming and helpful, quirky rooms, clean and tidy, breakfast and cream teas were wonderful, enjoyed a few evenings in the beautiful garden with the host, lots of lovely places to visit, would definitely stay here again, hopefully next year.

Although the cottage is on the main road the double glazed windows cut out the traffic noise. The cottage is very old, therefore all the odd shapes and sloping floors and ceilings that you would expect. I stayed in a twin room with en-suite - cleverly installed and perfectly adequate. Rooms clean and tidy, breakfasts wonderful, coffee great, advice on... More

Quirky & quaint B&B with off-road parking. No wifi in the property & no phone signal, but that did make it peaceful. The road does run right past the property, but with ear plugs in (essential travel item as I do need quiet) I was able to sleep ok. Heavy duvet, sheet & throw was overkill, the place was warm... This is a lovely B&B, beautiful inside and out, really old style. Our room was unique and the bed was very comfortable, we had a brilliant nights sleep here. The owner was very welcoming and was available for any queries any time we needed. Breakfast is from 8am but because we were heading off around 8:15am the owner advised that... More

An old thatched cottage. Also a tea room offering excellent cream teas. We had a double room with wash basin, shower wc down the corridor . Room was what I had hoped for, real character . At £25 ppn geat value. The room had been recently painted . It had a good heater which my wife soon sussed out. In... More

Lovely old thatched cottage, friendly owner, good location. We stayed for two nights as a birthday getaway, we came down to see the tar barrels at Ottery and needed somewhere near to the fun but not too close as it's mayhem and lasts all night! We paid about £65 per night and I would say really we felt that the... More

Visited here on various occasions - have always had fabulous cream tea, great value, generous helpings of jam and cream as well as divine scones and absolutely friendly staff. A bit of a drive from our base at Lyme Regis, but well worth the effort ... Will definitely be returning .

First impressions of this cottage was dark and depressing. We were shown to our twin bedded room which was small, musty and looked like it needed a good clean. The shower was tiny and the bed linen very tired with linen headboards. We had travelled a long way and were very disappointed. We did not stay. On the positive side... More

I always wanted to sleep in a thatched cottage and now I have. There are low ceilings, steep stairs and uneven walls - everything you would expect from a very old cottage. The rooms are basic but clean and you get free Bronte biscuits as well as tea, coffee and bottled water.
