#4 of 13 B&Bs / Inns in Santa Catalina
Rancho Estero is located at the end of the road to Playa Estero and is on the bluff overlooking the beach and the surf. The view from this property is simply amazing. We have a series of small cabins that can accommodate 1 to 6 people. We offer free internet access and a common kitchen. There are plenty of hammocks, chaise lounges and decks to relax on. Several restaurants are located close by. The town and the surf break "La Punta" are in walking distance. Rancho Estero is a very popular choice because of its priceless views, unique location and friendly vibe.

Awesomely nice views over Playa Estero! 40$ for a private cabin which enabled me to do a wave-check by just looking through my window! The bed is completely surrounded by a moscito net what makes you enjoy the bungalow style without thinking about any insects. Bathroom so was shared but always clean and even with hot water. There are really good Surfboards for rental and a lot of advice in regard to surfing spots and tide as well as snorkeling trips to La Coiba. The couple who organizes everything here is awesomely nice and I couldn’t believe they are not the original owners - anyway they care as they would be! There is a kitchen for cooking and Restaurant Mama Ines which is serving proper breakfast, lunch and dinner is really next door. It is a 15 min walk to “town” but therefore only 20 stairs to the beach and the waves 😍 I love this place and extended my stay to 11 days after the first night!

I stayed in one of the small bamboo cabins and loved it. The cabins are simple, but you don't need much, if you spend most of the day outside in the hammocks or on the beach. The view is amazing. If you have the window open, you can see the ocean from the bed. I also enjoyed cooking in the outdoor-kitchen with ocean view. The staff has been super nice and helpful. They also organized a snorkeling tour to Coiba for us and we loved it. The islands are so beautiful. If you want surflessons, Zigor (the manager) gives very good lessons. I was able to stand up on the first day and I never surfed before. I would definitely recommend this place.

Stayed here with my girlfriend and 3 French friends in a 6 person cabin. What you get for the price is totally worth it compared to other hostels/hotels directly at the beach. Super chill vibe, nice common area and the guests and hosts were amazing! Also the perfect waves for people who want to surf: beginners-experts. I would recommend this to anyone going to Santa Catalina. The owner even sent us a mail when we already left the property with her apologizes; she gave us the wrong time schedule for the bus doing the Eastern. Thanks for everything.

Located at the best spot in Santa Catalina, in front of the beach. The view from the deck is amazing! The owner and manager make you feel really welcome. We stayed at two different cabins because we didn’t book in advance. Our first place was a cabin from bamboo (without bathroom) and our second cabin was from wood with an own bathroom. The cabins, but also the shared bathrooms, were really nice and clean. The shared kitchen and common area create a good vibe. We really recommend this place!

Value: definitely good on value. Some places in the area charge almost as much as Rancho Estero and yet they don't have a view, individual huts (read: privacy). Rancho Estero is right on the beach, so when it's beachtime or surftime you just walk down some stairs and voila. You have arrived. Location: Lovely view. Perched on a tiny hill right next to the beach. Felt great just being there and relaxing. It's difficult to explain "location" in a place where things are spread out from each other, but they aren't great distances. Just 2-"lane" dirt roads. So you take a dirt road to get to Rancho Estero, and there are other restaurants and B&B right next door so you aren't exactly alienated. The mini supermarket is about a 20min walk. Take your flashlight. Roads are not lit. Extras: if you are interested in surf or already surf, I think you've got all you need right there. Take your surf lessons with Zigo (spelling?). He is a cool guy!! Surfers like that beach - I saw an international surf champion walking around the town! Yet the beach doesn't seem too crowded during the week. Rancho Estero rents some surfboards, but they tend to keep some on reserver for their students it seems so don't make renting there your only plan. Have plan B especially during high season. Cleanliness: Every day there is someone cleaning every bungalow, the two bathrooms and showers and overall for a very Eco/outdoorsy cabanas place it's clean. The sheets smell nice :) Plus! Rooms/Cabanas: Mosquito nets. Super smart idea. Most bungalows do not have a private bathroom but one or two DO. I saw 5 or 6 major cabanas, maybe there are more and I didn't notice. Probably the best one has an ample terrace with the best view and hammocks that guests are allowed to use within reason, but are told to stay away from in the late evening/night out of courtesy to the official renter. Another cabana is just a one queen bed. There is one by the common area with two queens, and another 2 or 3 closer to the bathrooms. One of those sleeps 6! So you can bring friends, or do something cozy with two queen beds or one queen bed: they have options. Service: Everyone was chill, nice, talkative, helpful, could tell you the "how to" get around, where to get what you need. Interesting, down-to-earth, warm people. Great! Payment: It's a bit tricky getting payment to them if you have your money stuck in your bank account or credit card. Easiest way is simply BRING IT IN CASH. I got chased around by one of the staff because of that. It's understandable I'm sure they've been stood up often enough. Other: - Hot showers! YAY! - Refrigerators. - Gas stove/oven - Toaster oven - Sometimes low water pressure, other times water pressure is great. - Free Wifi. Note: it's decent considering how far out Sta Catalina is. I was able to work there fine when it came to attaching small documents, but do not expect to run a Skype call and upload or download big documents. Just won't happen. - They have washers/dryers on premises but I'm not 100% sure if they have laundry service. The place has zen.
