The Old Mill is beautiful and peaceful. It's like going back in time. The river, just outside the door is delightful - full of ducks, geese and swans. Staff are friendly and helpful. The food is excellent. They serve the best Salad Niciose I've ever had.

We stayed for one night but were rather disappointed by a number of things. The room and bathroom were basic, no wardrobe for example but a small rack with hangers. The shower was very under-powered despite following instructions to increase the pressure. Talking lasted quite late outside the pub under the room. ( ear plugs were in the bathroom). Couldn't... Dear mch544 Thank you for staying at the Old Mill Hotel. I'm sorry that you experienced some frustrations. The historic nature of this listed building does lead to some challenges such as narrow hallways that get easily beaten up by luggage. There is restricted space in 2 rooms, so we provide a hanging rail for clothes, as to give a... More

This was our second experience with a small inn and adjoining pub/restaurant during our recent trip to England. Unfortunately, we were given the room directly over the pub. You know it's bad when earplugs are provided with your room. We might as well have been in the pub. We could hear the conversations clearly, and the pub speakers are mounted... More

Dear reviewer Thank you for staying at the Old Mill Hotel and for taking time to leave such a detailed review. I'm pleased that you enjoyed the quaint nature of this historical old building. Obviously this does come with some challenges such as narrow staircases and low ceilings. We have different grades of room and the 3 rooms above the... More

A beautiful situation near the River and Water meadows. This is an easy walk to the station and Town Centre. A lovely varied breakfast menu.. Our room was clean and comfortable and the staff friendly and pleasant.

This is a Greene King pub with rooms (not clear from advertising?). We had room 9 on the top floor which is really large and spacious. The sound of the mill race was soothing and we kept the windows open at night to listen to it. Some people may not like it but if we shut them, you couldn't hear... More

Stayed 2 nights to visit Stonehenge & Salisbury. The hotel is in a beautiful location and within easy walking distance of the city centre. The staff are very helpful and welcoming. The rooms themselves are adequate rather than luxurious, ours on the second floor had the inadequate shower others have mentioned, the washbasin was chipped and the plug was detached,... More

This is a beautiful old pub and inn set right on the River Avon. It is just outside Salisbury so it's quiet and no traffic to deal with. A very quiet place located directly on the Town Path to Salisbury. A 15 minute walk to the cathedral. Small, friendly pub in the hotel. Beautiful place right on the river. The rooms are adequate. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Old Mill Hotel is a 15th century building with features dating back to 1250. From its early ecclesiastical beginnings, it was transformed in the 16th century to a paper mill. The hotel is in the most tranquil location of Harnham Meadows. However, the shopping and tourist district of Salisbury City centre is a mere 10 minute walk. The paved footpath takes you through the meadows which boast the fantastic view of the Cathedral that was voted 'Best View in Britain' in a Country Life poll. It was also made famous in John Constable's classic painting 'Salisbury Cathedral'. (This camera shot alone will make your visit worthwhile.) The hotel is Grade 1 listed in parts and stands in a most peaceful and stunning location above 3 mill runs off of the River Nadder. This really is a countryside escape, just a stone's throw from the ancient city. Our traditional old English bar with low beams, stone floors and open fires, is a step back in time. A little piece of old England that has been preserved for your enjoyment. You can sample the best cask ales, a great selection of wine and food and chat to the locals whilst enjoying the best welcome and hospitality that Wiltshire has to offer. The restaurant is set in the oldest part of the hotel and sits above a mill run which is visible through a viewing panel. The ever present hum of the rushing waters and the large open fireplace, make it one of the best places to enjoy perfectly English food that's been freshly prepared by our chefs for your pleasure. When the weather permits, our restaurant and bar may be outdone by our fantastic garden setting for the best place to enjoy a cool beer, a glass of wine or a great meal. We have 11 en-suite bedrooms set over 3 floors. (No lift available, however, we will of course help you with your bags if needed.) The historic staircase leads you up to the narrow corridors of the newer part of the building, a mere 300 years old. We are sure you will find the views from all our bedrooms are impressive, whether it's the Harnham hills, the River Nadder or over our fabulous gardens set on either side of the mill run, where every seat has a waterside view! The hotel bar, restaurant and bedrooms are undergoing refurbishment during Autumn 2014 and the garden will be completed in March 2015. This is being done with the maximum respect for our present hotel, bar and restaurant visitors and will enhance this already great experience. ... more   less
