Went in for a quick dinner, we got seated at a table of 4 (we were with 2 persons) and enjoyed complimentary bread with butter, while checking our menu. We ordered sole fish (2x and 3x) and with that came fries, baked potato pieces and cauliflower. Food came not so quick, but it was well explained as I asked for salt-less (no added salt) preparation of the food. Service was good, food quality also. This is just yet again a very good up-standard van der Valk hotel-restaurant.

Everything was perfect, from an easy check in, to a large and clean room with a patio door to sit outside.
The three course meal cost 85 Euro for two and totally worth it. We can use the welcome drink with the dinner. The buffet breakfast was excellent too.
We totally enjoyed our stay.

Hotel staff are nice and hotel is ok, but it’s in need of modernising. Showers are a bit either red hit or freezing. Breakfast good, and pleasant enough location. Gym is useless. Two cross trainers and two rowing machines., which are out of date. No free weights. Noisy cleaners during the day if you are night shift.

Good hotel, sits on a large Loch gate in countryside . The hotel itself could do with modernising but it is still decent. Very busy, breakfast great, gym is not good, one cross trainer and one running machine. Restaurant expensive I paid €8 for pint of beer 🤨. Still good staff nice rooms good for business.

We stopped by here for lunch recently. Nice place to stop by. Good and friendly service from waitress and waiter. Quality of the food is good. Portions are generous and the service on the plate is really nice. All together a solid spot.

this Hotel is one of the two options you have in Emmeloord. It‘s ok, let‘s keep it that way. If you are used to international standards it is poor. The furniture is worn, see foto’s. The bathroom needs a renovation, in fact the complete hotel needs to be updated. The rooms are very dark, not enough light. It gives the impression that this hotel is used as a cash cow, without investing any money in it.

That is a petty, the location is nice. The employees are friendly. The food is ok. The breakfast though can be a mess because of too many visitors. They grab like they had nothing to eat for days, and have never seen a buffet before.

So, because of the lack of alternatives I recommend this hotel, but do not put your expectations too high.

It is quite difficult to describe how unpleasant my stay here was.

Starting with the basics, the main purpose of a hotel room is to provide somewhere to sleep for the night. This is normally done by offering a quiet, secure room with a comfortable bed and variable temperature. It is therefore surprising to find a hotel that offers literally none of the above.

Fault one: the bed was horrendous, absolutely no support with an old, cheap mattress. I had to make a bed up on the floor to provide any form of comfort and to avoid backache.

Fault two: hotels will often host wedding parties, which is fine. It is however important to ensure that the wedding party does not unreasonably affect other guests. If you come for a quiet night after several hours on the road, you don't really want late 80s techno pumped into your room until 1:00am, along with a whooping DJ. Not against such things, but don't put your non-wedding guests anywhere near the noise, which made it impossible to sleep.

Fault three: what at first appeared to be a private balcony was a communal balcony, whereby anyone in an adjoining room could be sitting outside your window. Rather disappointing to open your door only to find strangers out there, along with discarded beer bottles and cigarette ends.

Fault four: the room was not air conditioned, and as a result overheated badly. It would have been nice to open the door, but see fault three.

To compound matters, when issued were raised the staff seemed completely indifferent. There was a sense of customers as being ungrateful inconveniences, not what you might expect from a hotel. The Manager can't even be bothered to respond to the complaint.

The Van der Valk group should be ashamed that a place as bad as this is associated with their name. The brand contagion must be horrendous. Avoid at all costs.

I have stayed at this Hotel approximately 10 times already this year. Mostly out of necessity due to work and usually for 3 or 4 nights at a time. There are only 2 hotels in Emmeloord anyway.

There has been very mixed experiences staying at this Hotel. The rooms are generally ok. Particularly ground floor rooms with doors opening onto lawn areas. The primary problem is that the heat wave this highlighted the lack of air conditioning in this old hotel.

Iniitially the service wasn't impressive and had quite a few problems with the rooms and lack of prompt response by the hotel to fix them but I have noticed that generally this year the service has improved a lot from my earlier experiences and the quieter location outside of the town makes it easier to do the evenings exercises/walking/running etc.,

Food is ok... apparently the restaurant is highly recommended in the area but wasn't so impressed myself. Although the breakfasts are reasonable.

Overall reasonable and if the Vorhuys Grand Cafe is full (which it often is) then this is not a bad alternative.

This hotel if you are relying on public transport, appeared difficult to get to. It is a very pleasant walk of about 20 or 30 minutes from the town. This hotel had a very welcoming and warm atmosphere to it. Staff and other guests were very friendly and respectful . Check in was excellent . The room was a great size and bathroom included bath tub and seperate power shower. The room was on ground floor with a separate door which led to the outside of the hotel. The restaurant is very big and on Saturday 26/1/2013 it was very busy indeed. It was obvious that local people dine at this hotel also. From the moment we entered this restaurant, until we left, our experience here was 5 star. Friendly, well presented and informed staff who you could see enjoyed their work and the food was for us just excellent. The decor and table layout was conducive to a fine dining restaurant . Overall I would recommend this hotel particularly for couples or those looking for a quiet relaxing time. I do hope I can visit again when the weather is better.

Stayed one night. Room is large, and clean. It has a kind of balcony with a nice view. Bathroom is large too with shower and a bath. Unfortunately the shower is small.
The beds are big enough, and a little bit soft, nice. Parking is free.
Breakfast is max 7 out of 10.
Good for a stopover, check the last-minutes rates, we had a nice deal.
