I have been a frequent visitor here for the last 2 months, December 2012 and January 2013 which as a repeat visitor probably tells you more than I can write here. The rooms for me have always been clean and for my liking much too warm although some people might like that in a Polish winter. The spa itself is great with a very hot sauna, newly finished steam room, pool and jacuzzi. The spa also has a range of treatments that seem to be very good value for money but I have never actually tried.
The restaurant is very good although you may not get exactly what you ordered, it will be close to what you expect to get. That said every meal I had there was very good so no real complaint from me on that although the sometimes slow service is the reason you need to be a little serene.
The big question is would I go back and the answer is a definite yes, 5 weeks at this hotel in the last 8 and I will be there again in February without question.

The hotel is set on a small lake with a number of activities to choose from like tennis, paddle boating, a spa... and a nice little outdoor area where you can order drinks and the like. It's a really nice environment. I didn't see any businesses nearby. Check in was fast and easy and the staff I spoke to all spoke English. Someone carried our bags up the stairs to our rooms.

The bad thing was that I had the second room up the stairs from reception/bar area so at night it was super loud when people were at the bar into the late hours. The first night (Sunday night) it was completely quiet and it was completely dark looking out over the lake. The next night people were at the bar until after midnight. The third weeknight there was a wedding that partied until 230am that kept me and many of my colleagues awake, but the ones on another wing didn't hear anything until the party moved to their room. When I went to ask the desk for assistance (since I couldn't determine how to call the front desk because it was in Polish) I noticed a fire door so closed it and that helped. In the other wing, however, a colleague had to ask the staff to quiet the room party, but it didn't help -- and she had to be ready to leave at 730am the next day.

The room was clean. The bed was a twin, which I found strange. Some colleagues complained that the bed was short, but I didn't notice that.

Our group ate three breakfasts and two dinners there. All of the food was excellent and the coffee was outstanding.

Bedroom (and bathroom) large and well-appointed, with BBC World on the TV (!).

Breakfast varied over the two days I stayed, with a good choice. Scrambled eggs (etc.) were made to order.

I sampled one (OK) dinner, which was probably not representative, as there was a large party in full swing. The 2nd night, there was a wedding reception- I fled.

Please avoid, very rude and unhelpful owner. They really don’t deserve 4 stars. Location yes. Rooms are small and the standard is far away from 4 stars. Staff was acting like they don’t care and lacking experience. Everything is overpriced and small variety.

Polite and professional hotel service, although I did not check their language skills, but I think they would do well. At the beginning I would like to announce that I have stayed at the Duo Hotel, not at the Sosnowa Residence. Explanation about stars. I would give 3.5 from my travel experience. Standards in the world are a bit different than in Poland, also stars are not an objective reference point. In addition, there are other advantages not found abroad. Even free parking. Rooms neat, regularly cleaned. Breakfast almost like a high-class Caribbean resort (will not come out starving). Lack of a professional coffee barista is a minus. A high-level restaurant that promotes local products (respect for this). The bar may not be round the clock, but it was not a big problem to get a beer or a glass of cognac after hours. As for the room itself, there is generally nothing to complain about. The most important thing for me was that the air conditioning worked without any problems. Someone may find that instead of one king mattress there were two twin size beds. I do not think that this is a drawback worth attention. The most important thing it was comfortable and I gave my rest to the annoying sciatica. The lack of a lift is one of the minuses, so the service should offer to deliver your luggage to the room. Small things are the lack of a safe box in the room (It happened to be without, and for travelling guests, especially foreign is the basic room equipment) and so-called "do not disturb" information for cleaning staff not to disturb the rest. What else? By the way, room No. 66 would need some painting. Not that I am a picky guest, but someone else could pay attention to the stains on the walls and refuse accommodation. However, I tried to use my stay to observe and honestly describe them. I could not check some things out during a few days of stay how the spa works (I will leave it to my wife the next time) and ordering food to the room. The surrounding area is as always a unique, representative and beautiful surroundings of the Janów lake and Janów woods. A lot of opportunities to spend time in nature (walking, biking, horse riding, water sports). Regards for Mrs. Iwona. Respect for the introduction of European standards in Janów, and perhaps worldwide soon. Regards, guest incognito.

Going on holiday to Poland for 2 weeks to stay with Family, we wanted to treat ourselves and them to a relaxing few days away.
With the Spa facilities we were drawn to Hotel Duo Spa and booked for £50 per night with Breakfast and Spa Access. Even without the Spa access this was a bargain. All the staff were extremely friendly and genuine. Check in was seamless and set the tone for the rest of the stay. Were given 2nd floor rooms bang in the middle of the hotel with fantastic views out over the lake, whilst being within perfect distance of the Spa and reception.
Room had all the facilities we could ask for with fridge, tea/coffee making and a decent wardrobe. Clean, well kept and with a gorgeous room scent from a room spray they must have just prepared for us. Large bathroom with powerful shower and all tastefully designed. Wow!
Breakfast was vast and all fresh. Cereal, yoghurt, a selection of meats & cheese, salmon, tuna, sausage, rolls and bread, fruit. All the coffee styles you could imagine and fresh juice. My goodness the breakfast was amazing!
Spa was impeccably clean, with a nice compact swimming pool, jaccuzi with views of the lake, a steam room and sauna. All the key components for a relaxing time.
We hired bikes for the day for 20zl each and with miles upon miles of safe cycling tracks through the woods behind the hotel, we had an amazing time exploring. Highly recommend doing this.
The food in the restaurant was again fresh, well presented and above all satisfying. I had Duck, which literally melted in my mouth with a White chocolate Fondant for dessert which was the best desert I have ever tasted in a restaurant. Crispy on the outside and warm, creamy and simply divine on the inside.
So as all good things come to an end we had to leave Hotel Duo Spa but there has not been a day since we returned that I have not thought about our stay. I could not have asked for anything else to make the stay better. Planning our next stay next year, for longer though!

GOOD:
+ Free car parking.
+ Location near the lake in the nature.
+ Rooms with balconies.
+ Fridge in the room.
+ Teapot.
+ Free bottles of mineral water in rooms.
+ Average breakfast from 7 to 10 with omelet, sausages, vegetables and fruits, salads, juices, tea or coffee with honey and milk, pastry.

BAD:
- Extremely slow WiFi internet in rooms, in lobby; you cannot use it at all, consider like you don't have internet; it is a shame in Europe in 21st century to have internet worse, than in Cuba; I had to stop near McDonald's to use their internet instead of hotel's.
- Very thin walls, you hear everything from neigbour rooms, and the hotel is popular among families with children.
- No elevator, you'll have to take you luggage one floor by stairs.
- Water pressure is very, very weak even in the sink; can't normally wash your arms!
- Drain in the shower doen't work, you take shower standing in a puddle.
- Hotel has a soviet-era interiors, needs renovation.
- Restaurant in the hotel works till 22:00, service is bad, meals are tasteless.
- No power sockets near the bed, to power up your devices, you will have to switch off some bed lamps.
- Double bed in fact are twin beds, moved to each other.
- Check-out is at 11:00.

P.S. It looks like the hotel was a nice 4 star hotel several years ago, but now it is an awful place to spend even one night. The hotel needs a good and competent owner.

We booked a table for our family to celebrate time together. The food did not arrive together to our table which was disappointing.
Half of our party waited for some dishes to arrive when the waitress came to our table to let us know that all stoves were busy in the kitchen cooking for large party next door!
Why bother taking private bookings when you can't cope cooking food for everybody?
Some training is needed to ensure that the whole table is served together otherwise the whole experience is not worth the money.

If you need a short break, spend a weekend in this hotel. It's best to go there before (or after) high season, which means July-August and all public holidays. The hotel itself is comfortable and clean, staff helpful and the best of all - it's almost in the middle of nowhere. Take long walks around artificial lake or in the woods. If warm, swim in the lake, if not - in a nice hotel pool (not big, but enough). SPA section is also worth visiting. And the view on the lake - splendid.

But I haven't mentioned the best. FOOD. Start your day with a fine breakfast, and come back for dinner... My recommendation: beef cheek or potato pancake with goulash. The cooks they have - geniuses!

My high recommendation for those who need to rest somewhere away from the noise of a city.

We stayed here for a couple of nights ahead of a christening in a nearby village and thoroughly enjoyed it. I'm sure it would be a great hit with children.

The location is superb - on the south side of a small lake, which is to the south of the town and surrounded by extensive forest. About half the rooms overlook the lake, the other half overlook the forest (and some of the service areas, which can be a little noisy first thing in the morning). It's a 30 minute (very leisurely) walk into Janow Lubelski and it's well worth it if you're there during one of the festivals.

The lake is frequented by fishermen, occasional dinghy sailors and other wildlife and not much else. In the morning as the mist rises it is very tranquil.

As summer weekend days move on, much of the town will come down to the lake next door where there a great beach and outdoor eating area with food stalls - plenty of choice if you like it fried - serving cold drinks and ice creams as well. There's also a treetop rope walk which will keep you amused for a couple of hours if you've a head for heights. It ends with a zip wire run across the lake. Good fun.

But here's the thing. All this is a five minute walk from the hotel and you wouldn't know it because the sound just doesn't travel.

So, back to the hotel. The rooms are as you'd expect for the price. Well appointed and comfortable, with plenty of space to spread. Wifi is available and works pretty much throughout, including on the lake terrace. The bar is small but well stocked and the food is more than acceptable. And yes, the staff really do go out of their way to be helpful.

One caveat - such a great location is very popular for weddings. This is true of virtually any decent sized hotel in Poland. There were two on the go on our second night. And boy, the Polish know how to party! Until about 5.30 am. I slept through it all even with the windows open, but my wife tells me some folk nearly ended up in the lake....

Go with the flow. Poland is still a deeply traditional, family-oriented society. A wedding is somebody's big day and there will be lots of happy people about so the atmosphere is great. If the prospect of a wedding puts you off then find out before you book. Don't go then write it up as a poor review on Trip Advisor.
