We had an opportunity to spend 4 nights in September and we choose this resort. It turned out to be a great choice from many reasons. Here are few: - we got an upgrade to villa which is a fabulous place: huge bedroom and huge bathroom with a nice balcony with chairs and a large bed to enjoy the sound of the rain and the sound of the wild forest - private beach just big enough to have the perfect privacy with free water and snacks all day long - swimming pool big enough to do your morning routine or just hang in the cool water - plenty of choices for dinning for many tastes or you can order in the room whatever you want - the small buggy will carry you around where ever you want, in case you are not in the mood to walk - the lush green forest which surrounds you is like a paradise where you can find friendly monkeys, butterflies and exotic birds. - the sea is warm and the sand is perfect so you can do nice long beach walks in the morning and evenings - the breakfast is just enough and at high quality. The Chef Hazar will do his best to accommodate any request or diet you might have The service was impressive and we must acknowledge our waiter Baguley who did his best to make us fill great any time we serve our meals Price wise, for these amount of benefits and great services I would say it was a fair offer. A meal for 2 would be around 50USD but you'll have the hotel app and you can check yourself in the comfort of your room all the restaurants and their menus so you can make your choice wisely. The gym is good enough for a good workout and if you are a yoga fan you can opt for a nice deck, in the middle of the jungle with sea view. Overall, definetely a place where we would like to return one day. Enjoy!

A slice of heaven on earth! We have been several times and it remains our favorite place in Malaysia for sure! Serene luxury resort built into nature, tasteful, stylish, tranquil, personable.....it feels like home every time we go. Great team and beautiful food. Best are their sustainability efforts: creative, serious, authentic, well thought through, giving the guests an opportunity to be part of it. Simply fantastic!

After so many years of hearing great reviews about The Datai, we decided to take advantage of the Seclusion Package (full board package) to experience the ‘magic’ of The Datai ourselves. The package was well-worth it as it includes airport transfers (in a Vellfire), upgrade to the Rainforest villa, daily breakfast, 3 course meals at lunch and dinner and two 60mins massage (for 2 pax). Other highlights are the experiences offered by the Nature Hut. I would recommend that you pay a visit to the Nature Hut as soon as you arrive to book a few of these experiences as places are limited due to covid19 SOP. They limit the numbers to 6 pax per experience. We managed to book 3 experiences- the Night walk (with Razan), Beach Walk (with marine biologist Siva) and Curated Walk (with resident Naturalist, Irshad). All 3 walks were highly educational, fascinating and professionally conducted. Our family of 4 were given villas 6 and 7. These villas share a connecting balcony, which we appreciated. Both villas are luxuriously fitted out and our children especially, enjoyed the complimentary drinks and snacks in the mini bar. Look out for the beautifully illustrated Datai Nature book (placed next to the binoculars). Bring it with you when you go for your walks as you will want to mark off the animals/ wildlife you spot. Amongst the coffee table Books provided in the room, there is one written by Irshad named ‘Langkawi’ which gives great insight into the wildlife in Langkawi and The Datai. Worth a read. The beach in The Datai is the best beach I’ve been to in Langkawi. It’s clean and the sand is fine. What’s great at The Datai is that all non-motorized water sports are complimentary. We had fun with the kayak and paddle boards. We tried the wake board but unfortunately the water was too calm for wake boarding. The staff at the water sports centre were all very polite and kind. Special thanks to Akmal, who took the kids out sailing. We also appreciated the little touches such as cold water, cold face towels, fruit kebabs and coconut sorbets that the wait staff brings to guests at the beach/pool. Every meal we had at The Datai was freshly prepared, delicious and served promptly. Service was excellent in all 4 dining venues. Our favourite is the Beach Hut/ Beach Club. It offers something for everyone in the family. This is where all lunches are served which suits us well as we tend to spend most of our day by the beach. We had a very memorable dinner here on our first night when a baby reticulated python made an appearance. The Gulai House and The Pavilion served Malaysian and Thai food respectively. Only open for dinner. Both excellent in quality and service. We only used the Dining Room for breakfasts. A la carte and ‘buffet’ options available for breakfast. Again, we find that service is always prompt and personalized. The trees surrounding the pool at The Dining Room is where we have spotted The hornbills. Spa experience is good and we felt safe with the SOP put in place. The treatment villas are beautifully laid out amidst the ‘jungle’. No need for piped-in relaxation music as the symphony of the jungle surrounds you. The treatments are not rushed and we were given time to enjoy our tea in the villas after our massage. My husband booked 2 rounds of golf at the neighbouring Els Club. Guests at The Datai pay a discounted rate and it included transport to the golf course in a chauffeur-driven Mercedes or Vellfire. He went earlier to enjoy the complimentary use of the driving range (1 hour). He rates the course very highly. Picturesque and very enjoyable to play. Only disappointment is that a few of the greens were temporary greens due to some maintenance work. Overall, we would highly recommend The Datai for an outstanding beach/nature vacation in Malaysia.

Dear layfern, Thank you for taking the time to write such a wonderful review on your recent stay at The Datai Langkawi. I am very happy to hear that you thoroughly enjoyed your stay and liked your Rainforest Villa as well as the nature excursions led by our enthusiastic team at The Nature Centre, indeed, this is something that shouldn't be missed when visiting The Datai. I am also glad that you liked the Nature Guide Book which certainly comes in handy when you wish to identify specific bird spotted around the resort. I will share your fabulous review with the team and they will be delighted to see that their genuine care and services rendered is appreciated by our guests and I truly believe that they are the true asset of the resort aside from this tranquil and magnificent rainforest. On behalf of the team, thank you for choosing to stay with us and we hope to welcome you back on your next visit to your rainforest paradise. Warmest regards, Arnaud Girodon

There are just no words adequate enough to express the beauty of this resort. The service discreet and impeccable - with lovely staff bringing cold towels for guests' comfort on the beach and undoubtedly the best kitchens you will ever find on a beach resort (lobster omelette for breakfast with champagne - wagu steaks for dinner). The spa was a special treat, being pampered in a private open air room with a stream trickling by. I will be back...

Suria and I spent 7 wonderful days at The Datai. The Datai is one of its kind. Not the usual coconut trees. Nowhere else in the world is there a 7 star beach resort that is set within a 10 million old rainforest. Walk on the beach in the morning (with otters around), laze on the deck chair, do a forest walk in the afternoon and follow up with a sundowner before dinner. We were lost for choice with the many beach and forest activities. In a world that is destroying the environment, The Datai has done so much to enhance (not just sustain) the environment. A visit to their garden and sustainable lab is a must where you will be impressed with the knowledge and the passion the team exudes. To top it all is an ever attentive and responsive team where no request was an issue. Our butler Ismail did not need requests but anticipated our needs and approached his work with unobtrusive diligence. Azhari ensured the crab, lobster, prawns were the morning’s catch. William was not just the efficient waiter but had a wealth of knowledge to share with us.Not to forget Suhan at the beach club who was ever so helpful A gym instructor stretches you for 5 – 10 minutes. Edo spent 30 minutes stretching me and then another helping me with weights training. Most hotel gym staff are helpful but Edo took the extra mile to encourage me .It was not a chore for him. Again spoilt of choice for freshest food seafood, marble 6 steaks, Malay, Indian, Thai and Continental. There is a menu but it was no problem for Chefs Arifah and Azman to meet our many special requests. Mr Indra Mohan’s wine list is not just made up of the usual ‘growths’ in 5 star hotels. Do not bring your wine as you will be able to experience some interesting eclectic wines at reasonable prices. There is also the usual selection for those who drink wine based on ‘ pointers ‘ Our journey did not end at the hotel. Eta navigated us at the airport right to the Departure Hall. What fantastic service. The Resort Manager, Mr Jaya must be incredibly proud of his team as they are world beaters – Accommodation, Food, Service, Facilities, Activities, Environment and People.Thank you Mr Jaya. What else to say – Visit before you kick the bucket. Suria & VU
