Located close to Vergina, the hotel is located amidst vineyards on a hill top providing a fabulous view of the valley and the lake from the terraces. A real pleasure tasting the house wine at sunset from the terrace! The hotel itself has a special ambiance with dark wood and antique style objects and decoration. The room is spacious and functional, all in dark wood as well. Service was warm and friendly. Breakfast is ok with limited items on the buffet. We did not dine at the hotel. Since the hotel is in an isolated location in the countryside, you need to drive 10-15 min to Veroia for good choice of restaurants.
After a short drive up an unmade road we arrive at Hotel Kalaitzis with it’s neat grape vines and well kept gardens. It was easy to find as there were clear signs on the main road and it has good access and parking once you arrive at the hotel. We were greeted by a very courteous owner who showed us to our room, which was warm and comfortable. Although the hotel is only 10 years old, the interior has a period feel. Almost verging on gothic with its dark wood and wonderful array of ornaments. The Christmas decorations and log fire added to the welcome. The wine and spirit produced at the hotel was delicious. Although we ventured to the village for our evening meal, we did enjoy a drink before bed back at the hotel. The breakfast had a good choice, plus we asked for fried eggs which were quickly provided. The outside seating area looked inviting but unfortunately it was too cold, but the views must be stunning in the warmer weather.…
We were accommodated at Domaine Kalaitzis in order to have a photoshoot of a clothing line. The outcome was amazing. The location, the decoration and the lighting were iconic and the crew was very friendly and helpful. It's a place we will definitely visit again for a future project!!
My wife and I spent a night at Domaine Kalaitzis in March 2018, and truly wish we'd spent more time there. My +/- review: Plus ------ * Beautiful Location -- It would be difficult to find a more relaxing environment than Kalaitzis, which is situated on a hillside overlooking Veroia. The building is surrounded by the vineyard (not a commercial vineyard - the wine produced supports only the hotel restaurant). When we arrived from Ohrid (via Bitola and Edessa), we just wanted to relax, and Kalaitzis was a great place to do it. * Restaurant -- Great food and wine. While the menu is not large, the owner/chef was able to accommodate my unusual diet (vegetarian/gluten-free). * Quality Suite -- Our room was large, with wood paneling, an ample bathroom, and views of the vineyard. Minus ------- * Shower/Jacuzzi -- Minor detail, but there wasn't really a shower, just a Jacuzzi with a hose extension. Made for a bit of a challenge showering without taking a mess! Also, the Jacuzzi took a really long time to fill up (~30 min). * Empty -- This is both a plus and a minus. Was very peaceful, but felt a little odd that there weren't any other folks visiting either the hotel or restaurant the night we stayed at Kalaitzis - was just my, my wife, and the proprieter. Will attribute this to the timing of our visit (late March, just after several days of rain).…
Estate Kalaitzis is a wonderful place, with amazing views, gardens and rooms, in a very unique building. However, persuaded to stay by previous reviews - on the one night we stayed, we found the hospitality aspect sadly lacking. There was no offer to carry luggage up to the room, the food was very basic and expensive for what was served, and not of good quality. Breakfast, sadly, was a comedy, having to prompt the staff for everything. The room was excellent, except that there was a lone kettle ( no cups), and a broken hairdryer- we were informed at checkout that there was another one in the bathroom cupboard. Sadly, the stay did not live up to our expectations, based upon previous recent reviews.
