We booked this place as our last night in France as was near the airport .. On arrival the place looks amazing and the welcome was good , reception area and the walk to the room very impressive.. We did only pay i think about £80 for the night but wasn't worth it at all as looked like our room... More

The hotel is an old monastery in a beautiful garden setting. We had a "superior" room in the first floor, which was tastefully set up to match the old building, with antique furniture and "oldschool" fittings. The rooms may not have as many modern "features" as in other places, but were in great condition otherwise. The service was impeccable, both... More

I stayed here in cold and wet february. At reception they told me it would be 20€ each extra per dog ( 2 old clean quiet sleepy pups) I was quite shocked. The carpet in my room had numerous large stains, the curtains were full of dust and the corners of the bathroom ceiling were black. I was made to... More

This beautiful Abbey is unfortunately a little down at heel. The gardens whilst extensive are shabby or at least were at the time of our visit in Autumn. The room was characterful and comfortable with nice view across the garden. We ate in the restaurant which was unrelenting high cuisine (even the menu pour enfants had pate de foie gras... More

If this place closed down for a three or four month proper refurbishment it'd be a beautiful luxury retreat. The reality is that it's like visiting an elderly relative who really should redecorate. We stayed for one night at Abbaye de Villeneuve to break up the journey back to the ferry port. I must confess to not having read the... More

Dear Guest, Thank you for sharing a review with us on Tripadvisor. We apologize for your experience with dust in the room as well as the other inconveniences in regards to the bathroom and toilet area. We have taken up the matter with our house keeping team. As for our restaurant, we do serve a rather “gastronomique” cuisine but also... More

Having read the other reviews, I wonder whether we are reviewing the same hotel. We found really welcoming and customer focused reception staff, attentive and efficient restaurant staff, delicious food, a huge bedroom and large bathroom ... Everyone was friendly and helpful, our dinner (we took the set menu at €36) was a gastronomic delight, and even though there was... More

We booked on the basis of the hotel's website and it's promise - and should have paid more attention to the less positive Tripadvisor reviews. I don't mind cost - it's the value that's important and Abbaye de Villeneuve rates very low on that criterion. It's clear that the budget for this hotel is limited - in terms of maintenance... More

Very disapointed given the price we paid: EUR 175 per night - Old and dusty room - Old bathroom => bathtube without proper shower equipment (modern people no longer take a bath everyday...) - We ran out to avoid the dinner (some friends arrived a day before us and said it was terrible) - Internet is not working in the... Beautiful location and lovely surroundings though we might have preferred the hotel to invest a little more in comfort and mod cons. Our room was a good size and attractively furnished but the bath had a hand held shower which was very tedious. Dinner was good and the service was excellent. Our sat nav took us to entirely the wrong... More

This old monastery was once a great hotel. 2008 Dalei Lama was in this hotel. With a good GPS the hotel is easy to find and you get a warm welcome of the friendly staff. Official Description (provided by the hotel)
The Abbey was founded by Constance de Bretagne. Very important at the 15th century, the greater part was demolished Under the Revolution. Neglected since last war it was fully restored in 1977. The actual house dating from 18th century is the old Cistercian guest quarters. Now it offers all the modern tastefully luxuries with an air of nobleness and spell belonging to its past age. A side of the cloister still holds good and is open to the restaurant. Cuisine of exceptional standard on level with surroundings. Bedrooms and apartments with the genuine decoration of the wonderful framing half-timbering. The sitting-rooms have the splendor of the Great Century with their ceilings in the French style and fireplaces in stone. You will feel far from the monastic austerity of the Cistercians but quite near "a little place of the paradise" at the end of the road... ... more   less
