Detailed Reviews
Mas de l'Houvande is a charming 'chambre d'hôte' among the vineyards in a meander of the river Lot.
The rooms are spacious, with comfortable beds, and are surprisingly cool despite the lack of an airco. The interior is of a sober design, blending in with the local style, but fortunately without the discomforts of older buildings.
The breakfast is traditional French, with crusty bread and jams. On request we had several delicious evening dinners with the hosts and other guests, enjoying not only the food, but also visitors from the surrounding nature (be it from a safe distance): owls, toads, beetles - during the day one may even spot a kite or hawk.
There's plenty to see and do in the surrounding region: Rocamadour, Sarlat, Cahors, Peche Merle and other caves, Saint-Cirsq Lapopie, wine and foie gras tasting, castels and ruins, picknicks,... And if you don't feel like planning your stay on before hand, you can just relax a day or two in the garden with swimming pool, and rummage through the multitude of tourist folders and maps present, or browse through the web using the free wifi.
And if we needed anything, the hosts were always willing to listen and help if they could. They are polyglots too: French, English, German, Dutch, and probably more that I couldn't verify myself.

Lovely to hear that you enjoyed your stay here and thanks for this positive review. 'In the middle of everywhere' sounds wonderful, even though we had never thought of formulating it this way. For your information, our local toads have had plenty of babies this year. Very funny to watch all these tiny little toads making their way into the big wide world.

In my view, there's not a more peaceful, beautiful or hospitable chamber d'hôte in this part of the River Lot Valley. My husband and I have spent a year living in this region, and have investigated all accommodations -- as places for our guests to stay and as a resting spot for ourselves when our rental house is unavailable.
Surrounded by lush vineyard with a view to a lovely medieval village, Mas de l'Houvande is a serene haven. The rooms are very spacious, beautifully and simply appointed, and lovingly designed, complete with special frescoed wall painting in soothing colors. Every space is spotless and inviting. In the dance floor-sized breakfast room you'll enjoy a French breakfast supplemented by treats from the local boulangeries.
Every room has a private lookout onto the vineyard. Mas de l'Houvande also has a large veranda where you can enjoy an afternoon aperitif and a dip in the pool. I found it heavenly and quiet. And it's a great location from which to explore both the Lot and Dordogne regions.
Beyond the accommodations themselves, Griet and Bernard are the most wonderful, generous hosts. They have a lot of knowledge about the region and are eager to share it, making your stay complete. Even if you spend just one night with them, you'll feel that you've made dear friends.

For the second year running we stayed at this delightful B&B set on the banks of the Lot river in the vinyards. Our hosts, Bernard and Griet, put so much into making our stay memorable. We were welcomed with a relaxing glass of Rose on the terrace after our drive to the house. Our room was at the back of the house with a balcony and great views of the vinyards. The room was spacious and the bathroom was great with a powerful shower and wet room. The bed was very big and comfortable. Wifi was good. Breakfast was served on the terrace in the morning with a fantastic choice of breads, homemade jam, yoghurt, fruit, tea and coffee, juice .... On our second night we had dinner at the house cooked by Griet ( a wonderful cook). There were ten of us (including our hosts). The evening was excellent, with Bernard keeping glasses filled and entertaining us with his natural wit! The food was fantastic. My particular favourite was Griet's homemade walnut ice cream.
We will be back ... again!

The Mas is a newish house in the middle of vineyards, nestled in a curve of the river Lot. The owners are Bernard & Griet, an extremely welcoming Belgian couple who know the right balance of talking to their guests and when to leave them alone. Decoration and design of the house is very good with plenty of space. The location is very peaceful and there is a pool. A car is essential as everything is a drive. Preyssac is the closest town which seems very lively and provides a good selection of shops, bars and restaurants. Cahors is about 20/30 minutes away and a real delight, especially the old town.
Bernard & Griet provide evening meals which were of a very good standard as were the breakfasts - you do need some self control to limit the bread and jam intake!
Given the location a few signs would help guests to find the place - the GPS gave up after the third lap of the vineyards and given the slightly remote location, tea and coffee facilities in the room would be an idea.

My wife and I stayed at Mas de l’Houvande for a week for what turned out to be the perfect start of a long sojourn through Europe. With a beautiful location, set in the middle of vineyards near the River Lot, Mas de l’Houvande provided a great base for exploring the surrounding region. Our room was spacious and very clean, with a very comfortable bed. A traditional breakfast of local artisan breads, and cheeses together with home-made jams was always a very satisfying start to the day. Bernard and Griet were excellent hosts, the height of discretion and wonderful company over the dinner table where they were very generous in providing produce and wines from the region. Mas de l’Houvande is about four kilometres from the town of Prayssac which meant we had some wonderful walks through vineyards to the local market. Bernard and Griet gave excellent insights into the region and recommendations places to visit and local restaurants.
After three months away, Mas de l’Houvande turned out to one of the highlights of our trip and provided us with the best value stay.
