5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 17, 2015

We stayed two nights in Room 5, with a balcony overlooking the gardens of old Palacio de Orleans (now the Town Hall) and were impressed by the spaciousness of the bathroom, its cleanliness and modern design, and the wonderful power of the shower (on a bath, so I could also soak). The room was equally light and big, and TV screen large enough! The road is narrow but there is traffic and can be heard but we did not find it a problem at all to sleep very soundly and comfortably.

The location is ideal, in the Barrio Alto, next to the Palacio of Medina Sidonia (a gem where one can actually visit and stay for double the price, but cafeteria is open to all for breakfast, we did have it there, in the marvellous garden, as it is literally 3 mins from hostal Gadir!), and to the wonderful and full of art Church of Nuestra Señora de la O, AND five minutes walk from Bodegas Barbadillo, THE bodegas to visit to get an idea of how wonderful manzanilla wine (the driest of fino sherry) is...

We stayed here on the recommendation of the Rough Guide to Andalucia, but I don't really understand why they were so complimentary. The owners were nice, but our room was pretty basic, and the bathroom smelt. It did have a nice big balcony though, overlooking the impressive gardens of the Palacio de Orleans-Borbón.

The bed wasn't particularly comfortable - it had one long pillow and a plastic mattress protector which always feels slightly seedy. Possibly aimed at partying teenagers - there seemed to be a lot of them on the Saturday night we were there.

It was only about ten euros each cheaper than some other really lovely places we stayed in Andalucia - and breakfast wasn't included.
