Our room was adequate without luxurious amenities that we expected from Relais and Chateau hotels. The main emphasis here is the Michelin starred restaurant, but they were closed the first night we arrived. Apparently, the hotel staff used our old e-mail address from 15 years ago to tell us the restaurant would be closed on our first night. We loved... More

This property is one of the best I have ever stayed in. Wonderful rooms, staff, and amazing meals. The village is beautiful and people very friendly. Visit anytime of year. Be sure to book into one of the restaurants. I would love to come back for a gourmet weekend.

We were greeted by a friendly English speaking receptionist. The contemporary junior suite that we had booked was fine, plenty of space the only observation would be that the walk in shower was poorly lit. For the first night of our stay we ate in the hotels normal restaurant which had traditional Spanish food reasonably priced and still came out... More

The Echaurren is in one of Spain's prettiest towns. The hotel is gorgeous and mixes traditional with modern very well. We ate in the restaurant and the food was fantastic. Best wine list we have seen in all Rioja. It was such a treat to stay here and I really hope we get the chance to come back again.

A very nice hotel in a cute little mountain town. Rooms designed very elegantly and everything feels so special. This was one of the very few hotels that fit the 3 bed for my son. Don't miss the food here! There are 2 restaurants and a tapas bar at the entrance. We tried the traditional Spanish restaurant and was a... More

Hotel Echaurren might not be situated on the main tourist tracks ... but that is just another of the attraction to this hotel. Wonderful quiet village among the hills ( with great walking hikes ) and close to Rioja wine district. Don’t eat lunch and dinner anywhere else– as the hotel has all the options you need and the quality... More

What a wonderful hotel! Ezcaray is out of the way and there is no way that you would accidentally stumble upon it. We went because we had seen it on Rick Stein's Spain and cancelled our booking at Marques De Riscal. The welcome and service that we received were both welcome after a longish drive from Madrid and the room... More

We were confused with this hotel as it felt to us to be more a restaurant with rooms. The rooms were very modern and clean but the standard double rooms are very small and have no baths. The bar area is the only internal seating area and as such the hotel felt very cramped. We were particularly dissatisfied with the very... More

The hotel itself was modern, clean and quiet. Our room was on the second floor, with a view of the beautiful church across the street. As far as we could tell, church bells chimed from 8 am to midnight, then silenced for the night. There were Windows on two side, with cushions to sit and admire the view. There were... More

Official Description (provided by the hotel)
Our parents inherited a small hotel - El Echaurren. They transformed it, converting it into their home and a home for all who visited. Our mother Marisa refined the traditional culinary meals of Granny Julia and stamped her own character and elegance on the dishes. Her efforts were recognised when she won Spain's National Gastronomic Award in 1987.And now we, Marisa's children - the fifth generation of the family, are dedicated to maintaining the essence of the Echaurren while at the same time invest in its future. As such, we've converted our old hostel into a modern, comfortable hotel where nothing is lacking. Our aim has been to give everything a contemporary twist but without losing the sense of warmth. You'll notice a strong Nordic influence in the interior design. We've continued the traditional cooking of our mother which you can enjoy in the Echaurren Traditional restaurant. In 2002 we opened El Portal de Echaurren where Francis lets his creative juices flow freely. It specialises in avant-garde dishes - very personal and primarily sourced from the local area. Two years after its launch El Portal de Echaurren became the first-ever restaurant in La Rioja to gain a Michelin star. It has maintained this distinction ever since. In 2012 Francis won Spain's National Gastronomic Award, a quarter of a century after his mother. ... more   less
