The exterior of the building is ramshackle. My mother and I walked past it several times before we realized the door with the unmarked buzzer must be the Bed and Breakfast. The door was slightly ajar and we walked into an extremely dark, dismal, deserted foyer smelling strongly of mildew. A few "Bonjours" produced nothing. Finally I went out and rang the buzzer.

There was no answer on the intercom and several minutes later a man, the husband of the owner-couple, bounded down, looked surprised and said that "someone will come." About five minutes later his wife came and explained that we were early and she was busy working (fine-art painting) but would let us into our room.

We arrived at 4 p.m. Check in isn't until 5 p.m. but we hadn't noticed that (and 4 p.m. should be a perfectly acceptable check in time, really).

Don't expect extra fancy air conditioning or jacuzzis here. This used to be a 30-room Traveller's Inn in the sixties and continued service until 2007, with a single old lady trying to keep it afloat. Now, it's back in business with a young couple from Paris. They opened and service only the rooms on the back, the quiet and roomy ones, with high ceilings and local second-hand wooden furniture. This gives the whole affair a lot of authenticity and we all slept very well. Most equipment has been renewed, so no worries for the bathroom etc. Breakfast (included) was very complete and fresh, served in a small room on the ground floor. We loved the atmosphere and recommend this trip back in time. More

“The large family room smelled of sewer gas even with the door and the windows wide open. Room #3 was smell free.”
