Embarking on this journey, particularly for a first-timer, is quite daunting. Flying 40 hours across the other side of the world to a first time experience as this offered by Jim and his team at Hummingbird takes a little consideration. I had no idea what was in store. And I couldn’t have been in better hands for my 14-day experience. The space provided by Jim really is second to none. The property is so beautiful. Tucked right in there among the Amazon. You are a part of probably the most amazing ecosystem on earth - beautiful by day, and buzzing with life at night. It’s an extremely safe space created by Jim, Shaman Manain, and all the staff employed in support. Safety was most important for me, particularly considering the healing work - ceremonies. Both Jim and Manain

I have visited the retreat for the first time back in 2017 for the 12 days program. It was quite difficult to decide with so many options out there, but shortly after my arrival, I understood that indeed I had chosen the best possible place. Jim and the whole crew were nothing short of amazing! Extremely helpful and carrying in guiding everyone through their own journey. My personal experience with Mother Ayahuasca was quite tough, but that had to do with my own self-acceptance, ego and self-love which I haven't given to myself all those prior years. As my work with the medicine wasn't' complete, I have decided to visit the retreat once again this March. Unfortunately, due to the coronavirus international restrictions, I had to cancel my trip in the last moment. Jim was

I got home a week and a half ago from a 9-day retreat with this center. I would like to start with the beginning, Jim is a very good guy that has helped everyone on this retreat in an equal manner, he listened to everyone's stories after a ceremony and gave some insight on what that means or sometimes some advice about it. The center is placed an hour's drive with the bus from the meeting point which is the restaurant, the road is a little bit bumpy but nothing to be worried about. The rooms in the center are quite simplistic with 2 single beds, some tapestries on the wall, a table and a piece of furniture, to be honest this was more than enough for me as you don't need more, you are going there for healing, not on a cruise with a 5-star hotel suite. Don't expect anything like a

LOVE LOVE LOVE ❤️❤️ I just got home from a two week stay at the Hummingbird. I cannot give high enough praise to Jim and his staff. I was looking for an authentic healing center and with so many retreats in Peru , I was overwhelmed with all of the choices . After emailing with Jim over the course of a few weeks I decided that this was the place for me and I am so glad that I did!! I was nervous about this trip as I was going alone , and everyone warned me about a female alone in Peru but Jim made me feel incredibly safe the entire stay. He was so helpful and knowledgeable. You can see how much he truly loves helping people heal themselves. He allows you the space to truly look at yourself while completely and fully supporting you on your healing journey. The Shaman Manain is

Hummingbird Healing Center I had the most amazing time at hummingbird and highly recommend this beautiful place. Jim, Gina and Manain and all the team at Hummingbird do a fantastic job. you made my experience so peaceful and enjoyable . Jim you told us to trust the medicine and Mother Ayahuasca, which I did, and I had the most amazingly insightful and healing journey. Jim and Manain, thank you for all your guidance through out the ceremony's and all the talks through out the retreat. You made my stay so comfortable and peaceful in your slice of Amazonian paradise. My heart is busting with gratitude and love for the amazing healing work you do, and what you have helped me with. This truly sacred place. And of course Mother Ayahuasca, Thank you for helping me see, thank you for

I could not have asked for a better experience! Jim, you are an inspiration to say the least. Your presence and your willingness and the love for what you do shined through everyday that I was there. It helped to talk through “things” the 3 weeks that we were with you. I could have stayed longer.... Beautiful grounds. The photos online don’t do the retreat justice. A great selection of books to choose from and thanks to Gina for the all the good food! Aaahhh, the fruit. I can still taste the mangoes, the pineapple and the watermelon!....I want more! Thank you!

The experience and healing I had at the Hummingbird Centre surpassed my expectations. Coming back home a week ago, I realized how I have changed (for the best) after the 12 days retreat, and the changes are still ongoing. I chose this Ayahuasca centre because I was seeking an authentic, human scale (the number of guests is very small compared to other centers) and truly healing oriented retreat. Some larger centers offer a variety of medecines sometimes attracting curious people who whish to explore, but Hummingbird Centre focus is on the healing, for which a range of medecine truly is not necessary. Besides the facilities are great and the land is beautiful. I greatly recommand it!!!

The experience there left me traumatised and in shock. Not only was Jim unsupportive when I took ayahuasca, but came across as an outright bully and incredibly alienating. He seems like a very two faced person. When I tried to leave during the "ceremony", due to feeling very unsafe in his presence( him behaving weirdly and creepily), I remembered how he told me prior to my trip "If you go outside, spirits from another realm can harm you" which put me in a lose-lose situation. It made me feel extremely frightened and in panic for many hours. It is as twisted as it sounds- the facilitator seemed to derive pleasure from seeing me in pain and later laughed in front of everyone( at the group meeting) about how I was crying. He clearly enjoys seeing other people suffer and struggle

Response from Jim Davis, Owner at Hummingbird Healing Center

Okayyy….. Pretty sure just sure if anyone compares this review to most others they can easily see there is something wrong here. Please take a look at my response to his buddy HHC’s review. I do believe Thomas N is the friend HHC mentioned with body odor. Just glance at the other reviews and consider how likely it is that ANYTHING said in this review might be true…… And do read my lengthy response to HHC, as I am convinced these two reviews are related and a deliberate and malicious attack.

It has taken me a year to finally leave a review as, to this day, I still am in shock from my experience at the hummingbird retreat centre with my best friend. I try not to recall the experience of the retreat because I only feel immense sadness, hurt, fear and neglect when thinking back to it. Jim is truly a bully. From the very first interaction I realised this when he mocked my appearance when we first and responded extremely sarcastically to anyone with questions to ask. One of the guys from the group merely raised his hand to ask a question, Jim rolled his eyes, replied with "what" after 10 seconds in a very irritated tone. He CONSTANTLY picked on my best friend who already had self esteem issues about his body odour. After my best friend had an incredibly dark and

Response from Jim Davis, Owner at Hummingbird Healing Center
Responded 4 weeks ago
There is so much wrong and false about this review it is hard to know where to start, but I will begin with his friend with the body odor problems as it pretty much explains all the other slanderous statements. I am pretty sure his friend is Thomas N who wrote the other “Jim is a bully” review. On the bus ride out to the center it was clear that somebody on the bus needed to take a shower. After lunch I was able to figure out who it was and asked him if he could take a shower. Believe me, it is a very uncomfortable and unpleasant thing to have to speak to somebody about their body odor, but being responsible for the experience of the entire group I sometimes need to do that. He was very good about it, immediately took a shower and it made a huge difference. Later that day he was smelling again. This was not a minor inconvenience. You could smell him from 20 feet way. So I approached him again and trying to be as tactful as I could I let him know, and asked if he was using body deodorant. He said he was not, and I offered to give him some. He declined and told me he did not use deodorant because of the harmful effects of the aluminum used in it. I asked if he had used soap and he said he had just rinsed off. Remember this is the first day at the retreat. So the next day he smelled worse and I brought it up again and offered the deodorant again, which he declined. He never once said anything about having BO problems, just that he made a conscious choice to not use deodorant for health reasons. He never showed any concern at all that his was impacting the experience of everyone else at the center. Long story short over the next few days I ended up asking him at least 3 times a day to take a shower and to please use soap. He STUNK. In the common area where we eat you could smell him as he walked in the door 30 feet away. People would stop eating and look up it smelled that bad. His odor pervaded the maloca during ceremony. This was not a minor problem. If affected everyone at the center. People spend many thousands of dollars come come here, and his choices, his lack of consideration for others, was having a negative impact on every other client here. He did not care. I tried to work with him. Tried to get him to see the consideration for others angle, tried to just get him to take regular showers using soap so everyone else did not have to smell him all the time. His friend also got involved in defending him and at one time asked me why I did not just leave him alone. My response was “because nobody wants to smell him!” He got very tired of me bringing it up, and I got very tired of saying it, and yes, both our tempers rose and we had a couple sharp exchanges. The end result is those two scathing reviews about me. What I learned from that entire incident is the next time someone refuses maintain decent hygiene, instead of trying to work with them, they will simply be asked to leave. Other aspects of this review do have some element of truth, but there are distortions and flat out lies to paint me in as negative a way as possible. Never has our website said that everyone should not use deodorant. Never have myself or the shaman laughed of found pleasure at anyone’s pain. Honestly, how long would any place stay in business if that were the case. This is clearly an attack and blatant slander. One only needs to look at the preponderance of other reviews to see there is something very wrong about what HHU and Tomas N are saying. Also note there is only one review under accounts, the personal attack on me. If his friend had simply been considerate of other and showered with soap several times a day, there would have been no problem. Unfortunately, it just did not matter to him.
