We arrived at El Refugio early evening on route from Cordoba where Christine and Bruno were there to welcome us. The place itself is absolutely beautiful, with outstanding views over the surrounding mountains. The house itself is modern yet charming and as we were the only guests there that evening we spent a good hour chatting and drinking beer with our hosts. A leisurely dip in the pool before dinner in the local village, followed by a good nights sleep in the comfortable room was a real pleasure. The breakfast on the terrace overlooking the mountains was delicious, with homemade jams, fruit, meats and cheeses. I would highly recommend El Refugio both to friends and other travellers who want somewhere tranquil to stay in a beautiful part of Spain. Colin F
If heaven on earth exists, it is definitely here!!!!! From the moment you walk in the door, the warm welcome, the stunning and breathtaking views, the excellent food prepared by Bruno and dished up by Christine, both perfect hosts, you feel like living a wonderful dream, one you don't wish to end... so I say "I'll be back"...Surely, the place to be for all epicureans and to be recommended.
There are no words for this ! Probably the nicest people of the world, probably the nicest views of the world, probably the best hosts of the world and definitely the best cuisine of the world ! Een aanrader voor al wie houdt van het leven, de natuur en lekker eten. Doe zo verder !
A wonderful place to be and to stay. The magnificent vieuw and purity of the area make your heart open up. One feels welcomed like home. Excellent rooms , food and service. Both culture and nature within reach. Thanks Christine and Bruno! Inge
We have seen El refugio a few years ago on TV (Vlaanderen vakantieland) and saved the address in our things to do and visit list. Having a wonderful climate in this area, even in January, the temperature went up to 23 degree in daytime and in the night it drops to 8-12 degree giving us the opportunity to sit down at the fireplace with our excellent hosts Christine and Bruno, who run this place now over a year. Bruno was a hairdresser in Belgium and he and Christine decided to start a new life in the mountains of Alcaucin, a small village were time seems of no importance. The place is well positioned, with views to die for. The rooms are very nice, giving privacy, your own bathroom and a great bed with good mattresses. Christine makes everything spotless clean while Bruno cooks on request a 5 course meal with local products like Fermin Ibérico de Bellota Carrilleras (Cheeks). For breakfast they squeeze there own oranges for you and you can have figtree yam from the premise tree. We also loved the other two participants, the friendly playful dog Mira and an impudent young cat as her mate for life. We could have made at least 5 youtube hits looking at those two playing. We can recomment this B&B highly.…
