Following our reopening in September 2020, somethings are different at Needham House, but many aspects remain the same; including our focus on great customer service and doing our best for our guests. There is a new operating company focused on providing a 4* hotel with excellent conference and AV facilities; delicious food, superior overnight accommodation and creating memorable weddings and social events. We are working to and monitoring the Government guidance with regards to COVID-19. We are committed to ensuring we do all that we can to make sure we are and continue to be COVID Secure. We look forward to welcoming you to Needham House and want to share our processes, so you know what to expect when you arrive. Due to the changing nature of the situation we are constantly monitoring the law and new advice, so these measures will be updated, as necessary. The Government has made it law to wear a face covering in any public place, this includes hotels. Please wear a face covering in all public areas of the hotel, these can be removed in the bar and Brasserie while eating and drinking. Our staff will all be wearing face coverings in public areas. In the unfortunate situation that anyone displays COVID-19 symptoms, we have a documented process to follow to ensure the safety of other guests and our staff. If you do have symptoms of COVID-19 we ask that you do not visit the hotel but follow the Public Health England guidelines.

The biggest disappointment about this hotel was that I wrote to them at the end of our stay to tell them of the issues. 4 weeks later they haven't bothered to reply, despite me telling the receptionists that I had written, so I am posting the review on here, which could easily have been avoided by them simply taking the time to reply to my email. We arrived about 8.45 on Tuesday night, and the team welcomed us and said we’d have time to check in and still eat, which was great, and we enjoyed a burger in the bar. When I returned to my room, I noticed that it didn’t have a shower. The tap in the bath was dripping constantly. The hotel website says that all classic bedrooms have an ensuite bathroom with shower. The hotel team were quick to find me an alternative room, with a shower, which was excellent, and they kindly brought me the charger I had left in the old room. I noticed in the old room that only one of the lamps worked, as a bulb had gone. There was also an iron shape in the carpet. The new room was nice. There were a few flies in there, but didn’t cause me any problems. However again there was a drip in the bathroom, with the sink tap dripping constantly. It had obviously been like that for a long time, as there was a blue mark on the sink. At 6am we were awoken by the fire alarm. Understand this wasn’t the hotel's fault, and there was a note in the room when we returned later in the day, but surprised there was no comment about the early wakeup call when we went down to breakfast. My first evening in the room I had a shower, but found that the head was lime scaled up. It was easy to clear, simply by running my fingers and nails over the rubber nodules, and it was a nice shower once I’d done that. The drain was somewhat blocked as the water didn’t drain away very well when the shower was on, luckily it only just didn't flood the bathroom. My colleagues room was ok, but his shower drain was blocked and a short shower flooded his bathroom, which happened both mornings. Breakfast was nice and served by a friendly member of staff, although more dysfunctional the second morning, as hot drink orders were mixed up and the hot meal option wasn’t quite as ordered as it wasn’t written down when it was ordered. Walking to and from the car on various occasions, we noticed a crisp packet, cut grass, a broken plate and a random table on the path to the car park. Those were there for our whole stay. When I mentioned them to reception as I was leaving, they said they never went down there. I asked why not as it was the relatively short walk from the car park, and they said there were residents in that part of the hotel and they had made the mess. I pointed out that they were a 4 star hotel, and the whole site was their responsibility, they had no answer to that. I switched on the TV in the evening to watch the news. Realised that football was affecting the schedule, so tried to load the guide on the TV. It couldn't load as it was controlled by the hotel entertainment system. That system had its date set as Sunday 20th October 2013, 3pm. It must be possible to set the correct date, and to set the date to automatically update, which would mean power outages or other issues wouldn’t affect the date as it would reset properly. In my room there are no tissues, just toilet paper in the bathroom. Unfortunately my hayfever has been bad when we stayed, meaning tissues would have been good. For some reason there was no spare toilet roll in the room, and the toilet roll provided was a very small part roll. The room decor was oddly fitted. In both rooms I saw, units overlapped door frames and sockets. You couldn't access windows very easily without climbing over beds. I work in the industry, and didn’t want to just leave a negative review, so instead wrote to the hotel with all the information above. Individually they are all relatively minor, but collectively reflect badly on the hotel and put a serious dampener on our stay. Sadly it means staff aren’t noticing items while carrying out cleaning and generally moving around the site, or simply don’t care when they notice them. The items on the path to the car park must have been walked past by staff time and again, but no one dealt with them. The issues in the rooms, should have been picked up when rooms were housekept, particularly the blocked shower drains and the lime scaled shower head, surely they are part of the day to day cleaning process? If they aren’t part of the daily checks, then what else is being missed. Overall this hotel doesn't get any where near the AA 4 Stars they claim to be.

Maybe the hotel hasn’t gotten back in to the swing of things since unlocking, but advertised as a luxury hotel really isn’t a good reflection. The facilities are tired and in need of tidying up and the staff are extremely busy and look pretty overworked. They are however fantastic in their service and attitude. Stayed here for one night to attend a nearby function for a couple of nights. The corridors were dirty and there was a lot of mud and debris on the stairs up, this stay for both days we were there. On the face of it the room looked good and comfortable, but closer inspection there were lots of marks and dirt on the walls. The bathroom was a wet room, maybe it was the colour, but it came across a bit dingy. We were also missing things such as hand soap and shampoo. When trying to iron my shirt the iron was so scaled up, had I not noticed it would have ruined my shirt. Worst of all was finding a glass of wine full of flies behind the curtains on a second day. As we were on our way out, we just left this. Breakfast on day 1 was pretty good. Tasty and portions were good. Day 2 and we had to wait a while to be seated and to get food, plus there was no coffee. The staff were working as hard as they could but everyone from the front desk to the restaurant were super busy and looking stressed. Maybe the hotel has half staffing issues? I would have raised our issues however we had to suddenly leave due to a family crisis. Would I stay here again? Maybe.. but only if I had to. This would be a 2 rating save for the staff.

We came to Needham House for the Fawlty Towers dinner and stay. Room was good for the price, clean and decent tea and coffee facilities. Dinner was pleasant and the staff work hard but they are totally disorganised. Getting a drink was hard work (in the afternoon, at the dinner and after). They need to sort the service but would go again. PS: Fawlty Towers was fab!

Great afternoon tea. Polite and efficient waiter who talked us through all the various teas. Some of the cakes were homemade. Covid friendly restaurant. Very clean. Will visit again. Highly recommended.

Rang Friday Oct 23 to book afternoon tea for Sunday Oct 25. at 4pm I was in the 48 hours notice asked for. We were visiting a relative and I had left my phone in the car. Back in car looked at phone and hotel had left a voicemail saying they couldn’t honour my afternoon tea booking, that was left at 3pm only 1 hour before my booked time. So no opportunity to find somewhere else. We normally go to Luton Hoo for afternoon tea, but thought I’d try somewhere closer to home. Never again !!!! Luton Hoo it will be from now on .
